Goodstone lived up to its reputation as a both a wonderful culinary experience with exceptional service. Our sommelier walked us through the thoughtful wine pairings, enhancing our experience by picking up flavor cues. Each dish of the chef’s tasting was artfully plated. We look forward to our next evening at Goodstone.

As usual, the food and service were superb. I had the lobster pasta and my companion had the mushroom risotto. Both were perfectly prepared and presented. One of the things the Goodstone does particularly well is bread. I don’t normally eat the bread at restaurants, but I do here and I’m never disappointed. The amuse bouche was a cheesy biscuit that was delicious. Desserts are also a specialty. We had the chocolate mousse, very uniquely prepared in a torus – not the usual pot. We started the evening with a glass of wine in front of the fire before moving to our table. There is no place like the Goodstone in this area.

about a 40 person restaurant at the inn, we checked it out after being mentioned in Forbes magazine without much detail. the night we went thru may have been understaffed at the kitchen as our food took close to 50 min to arrive but at least they had some bread . overall the food was interesting and if your in to game meat this may be the place. our main dish took around 2:40 min to arrive.

Dinner was so delicious – we called it light-French, meaning Fresh herbs, cooked perfectly, beautiful presentation, and creative. Some French restaurants can be loaded with butter and cream and salt. Not here. The flavors were from the herbs, fish, hen, pasta etc. we didn’t want the meal to end. The sea bass and hen were both amazing. And both desserts were delicious.

Wow. I’ve been twice and the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairing is nothing short of incredible. Generous pours of delicious wine, perfectly paired with awe inducing food. This place is amazing. Shout out to the sommelier, who raised the experience up a level.

The service and decor here are wonderful. Everyone was incredibly friendly and the conservatory is a beautiful place to have a romantic dinner. The food we had was also very good, but we weren’t overly impressed by any of the dishes, despite the cheapest option being a two course menu costing ~$80. In addition, the wine list here is not well balanced in terms of price. Unless you’re willing to spend $110+ on a single bottle, you will have a very hard time finding a suitable option (there were very few $60-80 bottles in general, with some specific categories lacking these options entirely). Overall, for the price of the meal here, I would have expected to enjoy the experience a bit more.

The food is great! Truly one of the best French restaurants you can eat at. It is good, clean eating. The wine pairing is exceptional, along with the wine itself. My wife hates red wines and they were able to find a red that she liked. Though it is not well known, it is definitely better than any restaurant in DC.

This was my wife’s and I first 5 star rated place to stay and overall it was good however not how we pictured 5 star. Our first night there dinner reservation was messed up. We had reserved dinner for 2 for Monday night arrival at 7pm after traveling. Everything was setup on our end except them. We arrived all dressed up ready to go only to come in with being told they messed up and no chef was available. Embarassing. They apologized and called around to see if anyone could take us last minute (few choices in a small town) and offered some wine on them but we don’t drink, my wife maybe has a glass every other year. So we declined and went back to our room and dressed down to go to a Tavern about 20 minutes out. Next night was dinner there at their restaraunt which was good and we were given 2 small cavier samples for our troubles on the first day which was appreciated but that was all. So after 1 appetizer we ordered, 2 entrees and desert with no alcohol. Dinner was $200 after tip which was expected for high end dining, but I had to ask for more water, which I wouldn’t have thought would be needed in such a pricey restaraunt. The trail they advertise is not truly a clear cut path trail. We only went maybe a fifth of the way because it was grown up. And our last day I asked if breakfast is brought to your room (we were in the Jr. Suite connected to the restaurant) and they said it was only available for take out). So I guess what I had pictured 5 star wasn’t so in service. Maybe I’ve seen too many movies or have heard buffed up stories from those I know. Or maybe Inns are different? We will give 5 star 1 more shot hopefully in a hotel setting or maybe a resort to see if that is truly a movie or story like experience for which I’d expect for a place and area that cost about $700 a day for food and lodging alone. As far as the Goodstone Inn the overall maintenance of the Inn was beautiful minus the trail, breakfast was amazing every morning, dinner was good, however the only thing that made it a 3 star was the service. Nothing above and beyond. No offer of valet parking, carrying your bags to and from your room. No breakfast brought to your room. The service felt like something I would find at the Holiday Inn and isn’t that half of what you pay for?
