The food was definitely NOT bland. The dishes we got were perfectly executed and beautifully plated. We had the duck and the halibut. Both dishes were packed with flavor. Sweet corn and cherry chutney with smoked duck. Delicious and delicate halibut with smoked potatoes, sumac and spicy greens. Outdoor seating was lovely and umbrellas kept us cool. They have an extensive drink menu.
The view is absolutely worth it.

Really yummy Captains Burger! Bacon jam, aioli, with awesome shoestring fries, would totally recommend. Also, must add they make a nice espresso martini!

Love the ambiance and the adorable holiday drinks! Really need some nice salads and more variety on your menu. I don’t eat fish, seafood, lamb or duck!

Captain Whidbey is truly exceptional. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between refined and welcoming—high-end without ever feeling pretentious.

The food is outstanding across the board, thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and easily among the best dining experiences on Whidbey.

What truly sets this place apart, though, is the staff. Every interaction felt genuine, attentive, and warm, making us feel not just welcomed, but at home. It’s the rare kind of place where world-class food, impeccable service, and an unforgettable setting all come together seamlessly.

Absolutely worth going out of your way for, and a place we will return to again and again.

With just 80 reviews I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going in to this meal but consider me blown away. First off the ambience is really great, love the layout and decor and volume level is reasonable. I was a solo diner, I got my own little table in the bar, which was perfect for me. My server/ bartender was Amber and she was all kinds of friendly and made me feel very welcome. I ordered two small plates, but they were both quite substantial the brassicas and the lamb and I really can’t come up a fault for either dish. I would eat both of these all day every day. I’m not a professional chef, but I cook quite a bit and often find it difficult to find that really nice balance of salty and citrusy and both of these dishes absolutely nailed it. You can tell the quality of ingredients is quite high. The carrot cake dessert was very good as well. I would absolutely love to come back tomorrow would be great!

We had the most amazing anniversary dinner here. The food was to die for, the warm hospitality was palpable, and all of the staff even signed an anniversary card for us that they gave us at the end – what a pleasant surprise! The atmosphere was lovely with candles at every table and a cozy fireplace in the lobby. I was delighted that even the vegetarian dish was melt-in-your-mouth amazing! Thank you Captain Whidbey Restaurant for an unforgettable experience.

We went to Captain Whidbey for a romantic dinner and it didn’t disappoint. The drive to the restaurant was sublime and the location of the in is magical.
From the moment you arrive until you leave, you will feel relaxed and you enjoy the moment.

We had several dishes:
– the bread, it was okay. I would suggest that they serve it fresh or at least warm with some additional dipping sides. Also, add 4-5 pieces of bread.
– Captain burger, i would really recommend it . The meat was cooked to perfection and it had so many flavors to it. I really liked that it came with sea salt fries.
– Crispy willapa bay oysters, was really good and it was my first time trying this dish. I would suggest that they add more portion to the dish and make it as a large plate.

We really enjoyed our dinner with the view. Next time we are planning to stay over during the weekend.
I really recommend this place! I can’t wait to be back.

We enjoyed the appetizers and the desserts, but not the main courses. The main courses were poorly designed imo, which gave me the impression that they don’t know how to use some of the ingredients well.

The seeds covered fish: interesting idea that didn’t work very well. The seeds layer was thick which compromised the tenderness of the fish. Also there were some whole grans of cumin in the seeds layer which gave unpleasant pungent taste as you eat.

The smoked duck dish: the duck is extremely salty and tough. It should never be served as if you can eat it by itself. With the same ingredients of the dish, they could dice the duck and make it a duck fried rice, which would make it much more palatable.

We were on a van road trip and looked up places on Whidbey and thought this place was cute and the food looked good, but when we got there, we didn’t want to leave and booked a night! Such an incredible staff and experience, from the complimentary smores and firewood, blankets, umbrellas. We LOVED the dining experience, service, food and overall vibe.
