I went there for my birthday brunch because they had such good reviews. The waitress was sweet but not tentative. Do not get the chips and salsa way over priced and tasted like tomato sauce. The best thing was probably the steak. The French toast is not good at all! Everything was blah. I kid you not everyone had left overs and the potions are not big and NO one wanted to go boxes. The drinks were mediocre. I had to force myself to drink them. Also took forever to get food and drinks. I will never go again.

What a day, blew through breakfast and lunch, decided to have an early dinner at this restaurant (full disclosure, first time eating here).
Okay here we go … We walk in 15 minutes after they open. Yes, we are starving. Low and behold there is an appetizer that I’ve never seen on a menu, Italian sausage egg rolls. Hmmmm gotta try them. They were beyond good. Even better with the marinara sauce on them. Just go try them.
My wife had the steak fritas(cooked perfect) covered with jalapeno gravy and Parmesan Garlic fries. I had the Beef Stroganoff with Campfire toast. The sauce was amazing. Both were really good and we would order them again.
P.S. food and service was good.
P.P.S. just two little hints . One the campfire toast could be a little more on the crusty side. Second the jalapeno gravy could be a little more jalapeno-er. Yes, I just made that word up.
Bon Appetit!

Made a Valentine’s Day reservation here and left feeling disappointed. The service was fine.

What confused me most was the whole idea of “reservations” in the first place. The restaurant functions like a sports bar, and the atmosphere that night reflected just that… loud, rowdy, and centered around a basketball game. That vibe might be great on a normal night, but it felt completely mismatched for what’s supposed to be a reservation for a Valentine’s dinner experience.

The food was the bigger issue. We ordered an appetizer priced around $20, with THREE whole mushrooms stuffed with pork and a sweet chili sauce. They looked and tasted like they’d been clearly sitting out for a few hours.

For the main dish, I received half a chicken breast under a heavy, rich sauce with three FULL asparagus spears and a strange rice/risotto hybrid that didn’t work in texture or flavor. The sauce and chicken breast was good, but the sides were cafeteria style.

Dinner for two came out to about $100. Not a dinner spot, but could be a good bar spot.

Our waitress was prompt and kind. She cheerfully overcame my food fussiness, and the dish was great. I would consider this to be an upscale bar atmosphere with a much better menu than your typical bar. I added pictures to show the changes in the menu and prices. Most things have gone up $1-$4.

The atmosphere was ok. The food was not great. First off, the soda was flat, which was not a great way to start off the meal. Credit where credit is due, the steak was very good, even though they didn’t cook it to the temperature requested ( it came out rare vice medium rare). The pasta my wife ordered was undercooked and the dumplings they served with the pasta were raw, and tasted strongly of yeast starter. I got the steak and frites and the execution was acceptable, but the portion size for the price was disappointing. I was excited to take my wife down here for a date night, and was very disappointed.

We were seated right away for an early dinner on a Saturday, and the place was already buzzing before 5pm. Service was quick and our waiter was really good. He offered me a sample of a beer I hadn’t had before prior to committing to a dull pint. There were quite a few options for each course & very good drink selection. We had chicken fried bacon for an appetizer and that ended up being much tastier than I anticipated. Mains were salmon with Cole slaw and sweet potato tots for me and meat lover’s pizza for the mister. We enjoyed both. The booth was a bit weird (seats kind of tilted in and leg rest was quite a way down), but I really liked that it was sectioned off so we could hear our conversation easily. Several basketball games were on, always a plus.

The service was excellent! The queso was wonderful, but some of the chips were rancid. The Tavern burger was very dry (both patty and buns), but the sweet potato tots were good. The pulled pork tacos were very smoky with good spice from the jalapenos and fresh salsa.

Every time my wife and I make it up to Lubbock, we make sure this little gem of a place is on our list. The food here is always amazing. Anything on the brunch menu will make you forget your diet! Use your “cheat day” for this place! The service is always incredible and everyone there seems genuinely glad to see you! Thanks “Reserve” for being OUTSTANDING!
