This is a gem in a small town and represents their downtown home feel very well. I read the reviews before going and will say the owner who seats people is a little old Timey gruff, but with that being said, he runs a good establishment. The staff was very pleasant and on point. Food was ample in portions and tasty. Loved the fried okra and my husband’s sweet potato was large and rich with flavor. Our steaks were tender and cooked to our medium rare specifications. This is a great date night location, railroad enthusiasts, and foodies.

This place came highly recommended by a resident of the small town where the restaurant is located, Roseboro. Sometimes, you can find some real gems in small towns, but, more often, residents make something special our of an underwhelming restaurant just because it’s the only venue in town. I think this is the latter case. The first time, we ordered a steak and grilled shrimp. The steak was a good size and cooked to the doneness requested. I noticed it was dry, but my boyfriend liked it. The shrimp was not what is advertised on the menu. There are laws in the US when it comes to labeling foods on menus. If an item is advertised as grilled, it MUST be grilled. If shrimp is advertised as jumbo, it must be jumbo, and so on. I guess the owners do not know the definition of grilled, and neither does the cook. However, when someone calls you out on it, you should correct the situation, especially if you are breaking the law.
Back to our meal. They were very busy, but our food came out quite fast for the amount of folks that were there on a Wednesday. The sides were cold, though, and I wonder if they just scooped them off the top of the “hot” buffet, which means the food is not being stirred as per Health Department rules. So, do not eat from the hot buffet because you might get food poisoning. I ordered a glass of pinot grigio, and it came to the table at room temperature. I wanted to have it replaced, but the waitress was too busy and told us she had to get it from the back, which tells me that they didn’t have any more chilled. I had to add ice cubes to it to make it drinkable. Did I bring my concerns to the owners? Yes, I did, to give them a chance to correct it. Did they correct it? No. His answer: you cannot please everybody. Our bill was over $70.
We decided to give them another chance, and went back on a Wednesday, again, hoping it was going to be better. I ordered a petite sirloin with the salad bar and mashed potatoes, while my boyfriend ordered steak and fries. I ordered my sirloin medium well, but unfortunately it came out rare. It was a very high quality cut of meat, but I had to send it back to be cooked some more. I noticed that no seasoning is used on the meat. No salt or pepper, and no “au jus,” so the meat is just that, a hunk of flash. I tried to put some salt and pepper, but that didn’t do it. So, what is the point of buying expensive ingredients if you don’t know how to cook them properly to make them shine? We ordered dessert, and it was awful. The cake is made out of cakebox mix or a poorly created cake mix. The icing left a weird taste in my mouth for hours and was grainy. The only edible part was the nut filling. Positive note: I asked for chilled wine and I got it!
So, after spending $150 at this establishment, I say no more. Here is constructive criticism for the owners: stop saying you can’t please everybody. Take folks criticism in consideration when those are valid points. Yes, some people are unreasonable. As a trained chef and culinary arts instructor, here is my advise: change the cook I know good cooks are hard to find, but you could have received more visits/money from me (and others) if you had a cook in the back who can treat the expensive ingredients you have with respect. And smile, Sir. Smile. Practice in front of a mirror.

I’m from Roseboro, so I’m familiar with the establishment. I was there on this occasion for a retirement celebration. It’s a decent place in a small town, unfortunately upon entering, I didn’t receive a welcoming greeting. The event was nice, my workgroup was amazing, the server in the reserved back room were fantastic. When it was time for the meal, there was a shift in the atmosphere where the food is served. The meal was good from the staff served buffet. I enjoyed the event in the back, I’ll hold on that point. If you’re in the area, see what you think, hopefully it will be different for you!

We ate there for supper, and the food was delicious, as always. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would recommend them to everyone that is in the area. It was well worth the drive from Clinton.

Theme is cool and it’s obvious from the outside that the place is decked out. The train station decor, hand painted sidewalk out front and the overall feel of the place is country cozy.
We heard they had great steaks at a fair price and was worth the ride from Dunn. We weren’t disappointed and didn’t even try the steak. We both got seafood. The portions were generous.
The breading on the flounder is buttery and the flounder itself was cooked perfectly soft and flaky. Crab cakes were tasty. Hush puppies delicious. Salad bar was nice although I’m not a fan of the shredded iceberg lettuce and prefer a spring mix… it went with the country aspect. And the rolls and honey butter are a nice starter when you aren’t hungry enough for an appetizer.
We both had enough leftovers to take him home and have a second meal. The price was very fair for the amount of food we got.
Being new, we didn’t know what to do when we walked in. It wasn’t obvious where to go to be seated. But the staff were very kind about it and asked our seating preference which is always nice.
Great experience. We will be back!

Over cooked and over priced. You’re better of cooking your own steak because this place is not it. Large group and all the steaks were the same. Waffle House can cook better

This was our first visit here. We arrived at 6:35 pm on Friday night (2/28/25). There was 3 tables on the left side empty and 2 booths on the right side empty. Hostess seated us in a booth on the right side. After 10 minutes the waitress took our order and brought our salad plates. An hour later she said our order was fourth in line to be ready! At an hour and a half she informed us they were running behind. Our food finally arrived at 8:30 pm!!! At which time we received our food we’re told as they put our plates on the table that the baked potatoes we order were substituted for mashed potatoes because they ran out. Our food was warm as if it had been sitting for a time. Not good for steaks! The waitress said she had talked to the owner and they would comp our order out and we would not be charged. We told her no, we would pay and we did pay full price for our 3 steaks and 1 baked chicken meals. None of which were served to our table hot! 6 tables were served their meals before our table was. All those tables were finished and left before we got our meals. Not sure what the problems were tonight but I was not impressed by the service nor meals.

We went here with our family of seven. The food is always great. This is the first time that we took our two year old grandson. We were seated in the back room and our sever was Ro. I can’t say enough about her. She was amazing, she took the time to make sure that everyone was taken care of and even played with our grandson when he was getting a little fussy. Thank you for making our dinning experience awesome.
