I am a steak snob and I can honestly say Publyk House surprised me, in a good way. On top of serving a good steak, their staff is class A and the atmosphere is wonderful. Drinks are yum! And their bread and butter was a great addition to our meal.

Rare-to-find totally excellent salad bar here, which comes with all meals. Warm bread & maple butter delivered to our table too. Some gluten-free bread and pasta substitutions can be made.
Hot Vegan options are limited, but they have a black bean burger with fries. There are also baked potatoes (ask for plain, without the dairy of course). We successfully ordered the fettuccine pasta with spinach, mushroom, & roasted tomato dish. (Requested without the usual cream sauce, but with olive oil & garlic instead.) It was excellently done to suit our needs! We’ll be back 😉

The Publyc House Restaurant – Bennington, VT

Dining at The Publyc House Restaurant was such a memorable experience!

– For the first time, I tried liver in an American restaurant, and the addition of crispy bacon made it something truly new and delicious.
– The bar salads were fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal.
– The prime rib was cooked beautifully—tender, juicy, and full of flavor.

The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff made the evening feel special. Public House Restaurant is a wonderful spot in Bennington for anyone who loves hearty, well-prepared food with a touch of creativity.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend!

We’ve ordered prime rib several times over the last few years here and we should have learned that the public house does not do well in preparing it. Recently we came with friends. Three of us ordered prime rib and each of us found the meat to be tough and flavorless as it had been in our past visits. We couldnt eat it. Pasta here is very good as well as other menu items. Just don’t do the rib. Service is great. Our server was understanding and helped mediate the situation.

The property grounds are nice. It’s rustic but still clean and not cluttered.

My husband had the Stone Kitchen Pasta with Shrimp ($36). I had the meatloaf ($26). As you can see, that’s overpriced but all entrees have the salad bar included. The salad bar was great and helped make it worthwhile. If the owner is reading this, continue to have the salad bar and don’t skimp on it in the future to save money. I’ll make the drive again for it.

A loaf of hot bread came out and while I loved the idea of maple butter, the recipe could be tweaked; I thought it was too sweet and not creamy enough.

We only drank water, did not get an appetizer, and it was still not cheap. But everything was good so we’ll go back.

Lastly, we chose to eat inside the dining room but it was nice outside and the patio was full. Fresh flowers in the bathroom and candles on the table are nice touches. I appreciate that they were kid-friendly (I walked by 2 other high chairs) and she brought another one over for us.

First time here. Recommend getting reservations as the restaurant fills up quickly. Salad bar had plenty of choices and the lettuce selections as well as spinach was fresh. Loaf of warm bread with butter brought to table and pleasantly surprised how tasty it was. Saved some to dip in gravy from entree. Had the artichoke dip for an appetizer. Came covered with a layer of melted cheese which I tried but ended up pushing to the side because the dip was so tasty on the toasted bread it came with. Had the lobster bisque which had a strong lobster flavor and thick consistency but if you were expecting pieces of lobster you would not find any. The entrees were the meatloaf which is on the regular menu and a nightly special of pot roast. Come hungry because the meatloaf was huge. Meat tender and gravy tasty with just enough to cover but not drown the meal. The nice surprise was the meatloaf was sliced like a sandwich with the mashed potatoes inside. Every bite had a piece of each in it. Could not finish even a third of it. Plenty that could feed two people. The pot roast was melt in your mouth tender with a lovely gravy along with mashed potatoes and the side of vegetables were cut fresh not canned. Done just right, tender not mushy. Had dessert to go. Slice of carrot cake that was moist, great spices and frosting not overly sweet. Pictures do not do justify showing the portion sizes which were plentiful.

Where do I start! The Publyk House is such an amazing establishment with friendly and talented staff. We had our wedding at the end of June 2025. We booked the Tavern Room for our rehearsal dinner and it was perfect! They accommodated us being gluten free and the food was incredible….especially the peach cobbler! We were also able to enjoy the view from the patio during the sunset.
And for the big shoutout – when our original catered canceled on us 4 days before our wedding, the Publyk House stepped up and was able to save our wedding day. Kathy, Frank and the rest of the staff were so incredibly helpful and kind to us. They were even able to make the same menu we had originally planned for! We would not have been able to have such a perfect wedding day without them. We will forever be grateful for this team!!

We chose The Publyk House for our rehearsal dinner and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect. The staff was extremely accommodating with our party size and the food was incredible. We especially loved the steak. The atmosphere was stunning overall and turned ethereal once golden hour hit with the incredible view of the rolling mountains.

I’d been wanting to try this place for a while and so stopped in for dinner recently. Overall, the place was clean, the service was decent, and the food was okay with slight exception on some items.

I got the pork chop dish and chose rice pilaf as my side and it came with asparagus. I also chose to try out the salad bar and got a cup of the cheddar broccoli soup. I will say that the soup was great – with plenty of flavor and broccoli that was just firm enough. The salad bar wasn’t anything special, with your usual shaved carrots, cherry tomatoes, etc and seemed sort of out of place, but it was okay for what it was. The rice and pork chops were sort of on the bland side. As you can see from the pics, the chops were a ghoulish white and aside from the fruit glaze they were on the tough side and seemed devoid of seasoning. The asparagus was the one thing that was pretty bad – it looked sad on the plate and aside from there only being like 5 stalks, they didn’t seem seasoned in any way and were tough to chew – I didn’t make it past the first stalk.

I think the one thing this place has going for it is it’s in a beautiful area and the interior is very nice. Overall, not a terrible experience or anything by any means but even if I went back I don’t think I’d get that dish again.

8-16-24. First time diner at this fabulous Steakhouse. I went with the queen size prime rib. Huge piece of meat. To my exuberant surprise, they have a salad bar and it was awesome. I got broccoli, mixed vegetables and a loaf of bread with my meal. Heidi was my fine bartender. It was an added ambiance to my meal sitting next to and chatting with a Lady by the name of Fran. ❤️.
