We visited the West Bloomfield location for dinner. We had limited options on that day due to a snow storm, so we decided to give this restaurant a try (with 4.3 Google rating). There were only two other people dinning in with a plenty of empty tables. There was one guy behind the cash (who works on the grill behind him as well), and another guy in the kitchen. This restaurant looked nice from a distance but it was not clean as most clean restaurants. Menu had grease over it, multiple tables were not cleaned (some grease), bathroom was clean enough but the trash can was full, and I could see the kitchen from behind the cashier (open view) which could difenitely be cleaner consideringthat costumers can see what’s inside. The guy behind the cash was friendly, responsive and cleaned one of the tables after we sat. The grilled chicken was very good, but the steamed vegetables were not cooked well, and the rice was OK (didn’t taste fresh or warm). I would rate their humus 3/5. No empty plates were offered when the food arrived. Knives, spoons and knives are placed in a wooden boxes on all tables, but had stains (white spots) so I had to grab plastic ones. Before leaving the restaurant, I went by the vending machine to dispose a can in the trash counter (the one with an opening for trash) and saw a small cockroach running and hidding on the same counter.

I was told that the owner doesn’t share tips with the workers if you pay it through a credit card transaction (not sure why), so I left cash in the tips jar they had instead. This is the first time I hear this, but the owner should be criticized if this is true.

While visiting Detroit, this has always been my go to place for dinner. Sadly rochester branch closed so I had to visit this one driving 30miles from my hotel. A bit disppointed seeing the food quality degraded, chicken was not properly cooked, flavour was a bit more salty.

It’s closest comparison is the South African chain Nando’s and perhaps that’s what tweaks my opinion and skews it. I’ve visited this location at least 4-5 times since it’s opened. By no means is mediocre. Each time I visit a part of me hopes it can replicate the slow marinade & char grilled execution of Portuguese inspired chicken. In the case here it’s like hoping that frozen store bought pizza can echo pizzeria made artisan pizza; the Port of Peru Peri gets close but it’s never a bullseye. Honorable mention.

A couple other factors further my three star opinion, that being very dirty restrooms, unbused tables in a slow restaurant with sufficient staff, and over cooked and last minute sauce reliance for flavor vs. a slower marinade.

To me 3 stars mean middle of the road, not bad, but not great. It’s still worth a go, just accept it for what it is.

I had an amazing dining experience at Port of Peri Peri! From the moment I walked in, the aroma of grilled goodness set the tone for what was to come.

The ribs were the star of the show—so juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked. What I loved most was the ability to customize the spice level to match my taste. Whether you’re a heat seeker or prefer a milder kick, they’ve got you covered.

The Peri Mayo Corn was a delightful surprise. The creamy mayo paired with the smoky, charred corn was an absolute flavor bomb. And those Peri Fries? Easily the best fries I’ve had in a long time. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned with their signature peri spices—they’re addictive.

Overall, the food, ambiance, and service were top-notch. Port of Peri Peri is now a go-to spot for me when I’m craving bold flavors and high-quality dishes. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Years ago, I was a big fan of peri peri chicken at the Nando’s chain in the Washington DC area on trips there. I was eager to try The Port of Peri Peri when a couple of them opened here. It is counter service which is fine. The chicken is the star here, nicely marinated and fire-grilled. Yummy. Medium spicy is a good starting point; it is fairly spicy already. The sides were fine, some better than others.

Unfortunately, the space was not well attended to. There were puddles of water on the floor from dripping condensation from the exposed air conditioning ductwork. An empty table next to us had dirty dishes and chicken bones and it was not bussed the entire hour we were there eating. Other tables were wiped but didn’t look especially clean. My wife said the customer rest room was a mess. The glass on the doors at the restaurant’s entrance was dirty and smudged with a day’s worth of finger and handprints. Staff stood around a lot, obviously they would have had time to do some cleaning and bussing. The TV was annoying and the noise from the equipment in the open kitchen was loud.

I recommend the food, but maybe stick to carry-out.

What a hidden gem.
I was looking up something different to eat and stumbled upon this place.
Portuguese food with tons of options.
I definitely need to go back to try the sandwiches, but I had the 1/2 chicken, corn, fries, rice, and paneer.
All of the flavor was amazing with fast service and big portions.
Chicken was cooked well, rice had great flavor. Corn is like Portuguese elote.
Seating for a larger group or booths for 4 people. Clean restaurant. Friendly service.

Went here with my wife, she saw the beef ribs (yes it says ribs, plural, as in more than one) this is what she got. Literally one rib, with hardly any meat on it. This picture was before anything was eaten, I just wanted to tear all the edible meat off first to see what I just spent $20 on…… this is an absolute joke. Cassava fries were actually very good but that’s it. Chicken wings were about as big as two fingers. Absolutely will never come back to this place. One rib lol….. one flipping rib.

It’s fine. Aggressively fine. That’s the nicest way to put it.

The “mixed olives with peppers?” Green olives with pimientos and their “Peri salt” on top. They’re not different types, and you know what green olives don’t need more of? Salt.

The fries were good. Paying an extra $0.55 for their spicy seasoned salt is a silly upcharge.

The “burger” is actually a chicken sandwich. The menu describes it as such, so if you’re reading the menu then no surprises, but if you’re not then there’s a fun surprise coming.

It’s not bad! But the prices aren’t low enough that you’re going to feel like you’re getting a good deal, and Portuguese it also isn’t. It’s American fare with spicy salt on top / mixed in.

This is the best peri peri chicken I’ve had in Michigan! So well seasoned and juicy. It wasn’t dry at all. The PeriMayo corn were so so good! Will definitely be going again.

The environment is good, food is cooked right. Customer service is fast. The only thing is the amount of sauce they put on the food is insane. You definitely need a bib if you are eating in the restaurant and infinite supply of napkins to clean your hands if somehow you touched it.

Overall, its a nice
