⭐️ 1 Star – Unkind. Unwelcoming. Horrible Ownership. Stay away.
My wife and I walked into The Pines on a Saturday around 2pm with our two small kids. The restaurant was mostly empty—easily less than 20% of the tables were occupied—but the host (owner) flat-out refused to seat us, claiming they were “fully booked.”
Disappointed, we left and headed back to our car. Something didn’t sit right, so my wife called the restaurant to ask for a table for us just 15 minutes later. The same host took her name and made the reservation, saying, “See you soon.”
I immediately walked back inside and told the host that we were the people who had just called and made the reservation. She first denied it and said they didn’t have a table for us. I explained that my wife had literally just spoken to her and that she had just made the reservation. Only then did she realize she’d been caught.
I told her, respectfully, that we did not appreciate being lied to and that we would never patronize their restaurant again. I also said we would share our experience with friends and neighbors in Big Bear. Her response? She said she would “do the same about us.”
Unbelievable behavior. Snooty, dishonest, and incredibly unwelcoming—especially to families. Plenty of better places in Big Bear that actually value customers.

This restaurant is 50/50 for me personally. The location is beautiful and the employees are very sweet. However the service was very slow and food was burnt. It’s a great place to come if you’re traveling with a dog. The outside setting is just beautiful. It’s mostly a bar so not really kid friendly meals aside from the pizza. But they were out of pepperoni..?? Seems odd to me as that’s probably the most popular choice people would order seeing there’s only like 4 or 5 choices of pizza. You’d think they’d be well stocked. But reading other reviews this seems to be a common issue here. So had to find another dish. But the employees are so sweet and welcoming. They were great with our young kids and our dog. It’s open seating so you seat yourself, first come first serve style. They were extremely slow with their service however. Food was just ok. Only ordered the pizza though so I’m not sure about anything else they have to offer. Our pizza was way over cooked and burnt on the bottom. Looking around others looked the same. With that being said I would say I may come back to give it another chance but not a place I would say you gotta try. But it’s a good experience in terms of having drink that over looks the lake.

First time visitor. Stopped for cocktails. They were pricey but we enjoyed being near the water. Your boat can be docked for a quick access. Servers were polite, attentive and friendly.

The waiter practically obligated me to eat the way he wanted…

We had a great time there! Alicia (I think? Lovely southern Belle from Texas) was our server and made a great bloody Mary. The food was absolutely superb. We had the beef tips and shrimp appetizers. Beef was perfect and the dragon sauce they served with it was tasty! I want a jar of it! The “shrimp cocktail with cowboy caviar ” was much better than expected. Shrimp was warm and cooked perfectly and whatever they do.with the bean and corn cold salsa/chutney was really good.
Highly recommend!

Super pleasant and friendly staff. Tritip and burgers were enjoyed by all. They also have a fairly extensive pizza menu. Unfortunately some menu items were unavailable as their chef had recently and suddenly passed, taking the recipes with him. Views of both the lake and bear mountain on the patio. Love music on weekends. I hope this great restaurant with a lovely scenic view continues to be a hidden gem just a little off the beaten path for winter skiers.

First time for me to try dry aged beef and it was really sumptuous. The prices are reasonable. Everything we tried here are really delicious. This is a must go place when you visit Big Bear Lake. You can also enjoy the nice view while eating.

What a beautiful view. They had about 11 items on the menu, no appetizers. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza, our waitress came back and said they were out of pineapple. We ordered an artichoke dip, she came back and said they were out of artichoke. We were able to get the third item we ordered, but the didn’t give me the right side. The food was average and the service very slow. Walk over and see the view, do no eat here.

Im torn on this one. The view was beautiful and the food was great! However the wait was just too long! Took about an hour from arriving to getting food. It wasn’t the waitresses fault either! They are just horribly understaffed for a Saturday afternoon. I’ll chalk it up to a post covid learning curve I guess.

Great place if you want great ambiance, great food, and drink with spectacular views. They even accommodated out 2 pups, which was awesome. I will definitely be coming back to this spot. This will be our place to eat when we come to Big Bear. The servers were amazing. Loved this place…highly recommend it. 10 out of 10.
