The Patio Thai Restaurant is an absolute hidden gem in the urban setting that is Richmond. It’s a very unassuming place from the outside but the atmosphere when you enter is eclectic. We sat on the patio (hence its name) next to the fountain. The service was excellent. Oscar was very attentive. My husband ordered the spicy basil soup and the spicy kra pow which were delicious. We shared a Thai curry puff order which were buttery, flaky, and delicious. I ordered the tom yum soup and the chicken drunken noodles which were delicious. And you can’t go wrong with the Thai iced teas as well. The atmosphere on the patio was wonderful. I did feel as if I was transported back in time as the restaurant appears to be in an old building as evidenced by the low ceilings and brick structures. It was very peaceful and a wonderful dining experience. If we ever find ourselves in the Richmond area, we will be sure to come back for another meal.

2nd time going here and the food is as delicious from the presentation to the taste! The dumpling appetizers were amazing! The Crispy Duck definitely worth the drive from NC! The BEST Pad Thai I’ve ever had at a Thai restaurant! Definitely would stop by again when possible!

One of my favorite Thai spots in Downtown Richmond! I came here for dinner and was seated in the back room — a little chilly, but still a cozy and welcoming space. As usual, I ordered a Thai milk tea (a must-have for me at any Thai restaurant). It was good, though I felt it could’ve used a bit more sweetness to really hit the mark. I also had their spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce — fresh, crispy, and a perfect light start to the meal. The Pad Thai was excellent — perfectly savory, well-balanced, and cooked just right. A real standout was the crispy duck with basil—cooked to perfection with great presentation, and every bite was flavorful, especially when paired with rice. You can tell they take pride in both the taste and the look of their dishes. Overall, a consistently solid spot for Thai food in Richmond. I’ll definitely be back!

Wow! Walked here since it was the nearest Thai place, quickly got seated, and everything started well and just got better. The gyoza were fried up nice and crispy, I got a tasty passion fruit mojito quickly mixed up and served, and dinner started off nicely. My wife and I both ordered the short rib soup noodles, and we’re blown away when it arrived; huge meaty bone, another big hunk of meat amongst the delicious broth, noodles, veggies and basil, and the seasoning was spot on. Super hearty, filling, delicious, I got full real quick but found it hard to stop eating. I’d definitely come back just for this bowl of noodles, though there were other enticing options on the menu like branzino and pork.

Working with Tin Tin & her team was fantastic from the moment we started communicating. She was thorough, detail-oriented, and great at send us many pictures of how the rehearsal dinner would look. We had such a great experience there for our first date many years ago and couldn’t imagine the Patio not being apart of our wedding event somehow! During the rehearsal dinner, the decor and food were outstanding, they seriously outdid themselves! I especially enjoyed the Pad Thai and Thai iced tea. They provided great service throughout the event and even catered specifically to my sister-in-law’s strict dietary restrictions. The Patio team went above and beyond in so many ways, even power-washing the actual brick patio a week out from our event! My wife and I would absolutely recommend them for any formal events you may have.

The Patio Thai has been on my list for a hot minute and I finally got to try it today! It was the perfect day to sit out on the beautiful patio. Plenty of shade and a lovely breeze.
For food and drink we started with papaya salad, spring rolls, a Thai ice tea, daily beauty tea, chicken pad se ew, and lemongrass chicken.
The papaya salad was a great spicy starter to the meal. Next time l’d skip the spring rolls. They were excellent, don’t get me wrong, but standard.
For the mains, I’ll say the lemongrass chicken was a standout. The lemongrass slices did throw us off but we ate around them. Pad se ew was also well made and I’m sitting here excited for my leftovers!
Service was also wonderful. Would definitely come back and try new things!!!

I have dined at this restaurant several times in the past, and each visit has been a consistently positive experience. However, today’s meal truly stood out—the Lamb Massaman Curry was exceptional and, without question, the best lamb dish I have ever tasted. The flavors were perfectly balanced, rich, and deeply satisfying.
The service remains outstanding: attentive, friendly, and remarkably efficient. I will definitely return soon and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Richmond, Virginia area seeking authentic, high-quality Thai cuisine.
