The Thalapakatti biryani is easily one of the best in the US. I recommended it to a friend from Virginia, and now five families from VA visit The Park every time they’re in NJ. That alone says everything.
If you’re in NJ and craving authentic South Indian food, look no further. There’s always a surprise item on the menu—buffet or banana leaf, something new every single time.
I’ve also used their catering for multiple house functions and parties—flawless every time. Highly recommended
Chicken 65, chicken varuval, mutton thalapakatti Biriyani, chicken biriyani, chicken gravy, mutton gravy, poori, Malabar layered parotta, everything was awesome
Surprised to find such authentic chattinad taste
Definitely worth it
We recently decided to try out a new restaurant that opened in a nearby town, located right on Route 130 North. From the outside, the place has a rugged, unassuming look—not posh by any means—but it was clean and inviting.
Upon entering, we noticed a buffet in progress, offering unlimited dosa, idli, puliyogare, and more. However, we opted for à la carte dining and brought along a couple of wine bottles, as this place is BYOB.
The service was handled entirely by a single waiter, who was very pleasant and accommodating. It seemed like they had staffed lightly, likely anticipating most guests would go for the buffet.
We decided to indulge in appetizers, enjoying them with our wine, and go easy on entrées. Our choices turned out to be excellent!
What We Ordered:
Gobi 65 – A deep-fried cauliflower dish that was crispy on the outside and tender inside. The seasoning had the perfect balance of spice and tanginess, making it a fantastic start to our meal.
Chilli Paneer – The paneer was cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, yet soft inside, coated in a flavorful Indo-Chinese sauce. It had just the right level of spice and heat, pairing wonderfully with our wine.
Punugulu – These little golden, crispy dumplings made from rice and urad dal batter were a delightful surprise. They had a crunchy exterior with a soft, airy inside and were served with a delicious chutney that complemented them well.
Karivepaku (Curry Leaves) Potato Fry – A real standout! The potatoes were sliced perfectly, crispy on the edges, and infused with the earthy aroma of curry leaves. The seasoning was spot on, delivering a delicious combination of spice and crunch. This dish was one of our favorites!
Muttai Mass Spicy – This dish packed a punch! A bold, fiery preparation of eggs tossed with onions, chilies, and an intense spice mix. The flavors were robust, and it had just the right amount of heat, making it a perfect companion to our appetizers.
Masala Peanuts – This dish was decent but could have been better if the peanuts were fried a little longer for extra crunch. While it didn’t pair well with our wine, it surprisingly complemented the yogurt rice very well, adding an extra layer of texture and mild spice.
For the entrée, we kept it simple:
Yogurt Rice – This comforting dish was creamy, well-balanced, and had a cooling effect after the spice-laden appetizers. The star of the show, however, was the pickle served alongside it—it had an incredible depth of flavor and added a punch to each bite.
Omelettes – Light, fluffy, and packed with herbs and spices, these omelettes were perfectly cooked and paired well with our yogurt rice.
To finish, we indulged in dessert:
Double Ka Meetha – Simply superb! The bread was beautifully caramelized, soft yet slightly crispy, and soaked up the syrup perfectly. The only minor flaw was that the sauce was a bit watery, but the flavors were absolutely delightful. A fantastic way to end the meal!
Final Thoughts:
Food: Simply excellent—every dish was well-executed and delicious, with the exception of the masala peanuts, which could have been crispier, and the slightly watery sauce in the dessert.
Service: Average, mainly because there was only one waiter handling the entire restaurant.
Ambiance: Basic, but it worked for us, offering the privacy we needed.
Price: Reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of food.
Overall, this spot is a hidden gem for those who prioritize great food over fancy décor. We’ll definitely be back for another round!
I was also here for their Deepavali buffet and back when they did the “Quick Lunch” mini-buffet about a year or so ago. They keep the buffet stations well-stocked with some great food for a fair price (I believe it was 20 or 25$). They also have some rather interesting or atypical menu items on their buffet (not sure if it was just for Deepavali though).
I have had many bad experiences with Indian restaurants cheating and shortchanging me, but this was not one of them. Solid restaurant and worth the price. They respect the culture by serving good food at a fair price, and clearly are proud of what they are serving.
When we dined in the main restaurant for the à la carte meal, all the food was served hot and tasted fresh, though a couple of dishes could have had better flavor. The party order was a good experience in terms of both taste and service; they even delivered the food for free when it was delayed by about an hour and a half.
However, the buffet experience was mixed in terms of taste and hygiene. I felt the buffet area was poorly maintained. Some of the cutlery was not cleaned properly, and the food was placed on a table where a panel in the ceiling was left open, leaving it exposed to bugs and other contaminants.
This place can do better with its hygiene, specifically by ensuring proper cleaning of the serving areas and cutlery. As other reviewers have pointed out, the taste is a mixed experience.

⭐ 1-Star Review
I had a very disappointing experience at Park Indian Restaurant today on my birthday. I was excited for a traditional banana leaf meal, but the entire visit was a letdown.
Even though we had a reservation and arrived on time, there were long waiting lines and only a couple of rows of tables arranged for a large crowd. Guests who were behind us in line were seated before us, and the overall seating process was very disorganized. We even ended up volunteering to help set up our own table.
Food service was extremely delayed, and the staff did not seem trained to handle the crowd. The most upsetting part was the behavior of one staff member who was quite rude. She served only gravy with no vegetables, and when I politely asked for pieces from the curry, she replied that it was “difficult to search for vegetables” and I should understand it . Either she can simply refill the empty serving containers or she can say sorry let me try. This is not the kind of response you expect in the service industry, especially during a special meal experience.
Overall, the chaos, delays, and lack of courtesy completely ruined the mood of what was supposed to be a special day. I will not be returning to Park, and I hope they seriously improve their service and staff.
