We stopped in during a road trip after a family friend suggested it, and were glad we did! The staff were very friendly, attentive, were able to get us a nice booth, and gave some great recommendations on food and drinks.
Food came out at a good pace for our party of three, and we really enjoyed our starters of French Onion Soup and Texas Twinkies. For our mains, my wife ordered the Sea Bass, and my mother and I got the Ribeye– both of which were seasoned and cooked perfectly. We all forgot to take pictures because we couldnt wait to eat them, but I would say my steak might be one of the best that I’ve had here in California. And then for desert we got Crembrule, Affogato, and their Apple Pie Cheesecake dish which were all very delicious!
We all had plenty to take home for leftovers, and I’m still thinking about that steak a few weeks later… So for a first time visit, we were happy with the food and service, and plan on stopping by again!

This is now one of our favorite places. We were in Grass Valley and decided to have dinner at The Owl Tavern. There were a lot of great looking places but the atmosphere drew us in. We went early so they were able to seat us without a reservation. Our server was friendly and served us well. I ordered an old fashion and it was one of the best I’ve had. A little sweet but with herbal tones creating a great cocktail.
For our appetizer we ordered the Texas Twinkie not really knowing what to expect. It tasted great! The dish was creative and unique. Our main courses were steaks, I had the ribeye cooked perfectly with garlic herb butter. My wife had the teriyaki baseball sirloin. Both were cooked to order and were delicious. I would highly recommend The Owl Tavern.

While visiting friends in Grass Valley, Ca. We decided to have dinner and they recommended we eat at the Owl Tavern and it didn’t disappoint from the time we stepped in the door and were able to get squeezed in right away. The menu was amazing and I can usually pick out a meal fairly easily but I was struggling with 3 different menu items that all sounded amazing! Our amazing waitress Belle informed us of the specials and that’s all it took, I figured everything on the menu is always here to choose for our next visit so I went with the Short ribs over garlic mashed potatoes with broccolini and the wife ordered the other special, Halibut with jasmine rice and asparagus. Both meals were amazing! If your every in the Grass Valley, Ca area this place is a must with plenty of cool shops, movie theater and ice Cream! Make sure to ask for Belle as your server she is Amazing

Tried to eat here August 19th but they were closed (closed Monday and Tuesday). I really wanted to try their Texas twinkies and wedge salad after picking up my olive oils a couple doors down!
I have been coming here for years with many different venues trying to survive. The Owl has always been known for great steaks!

The Owl Tavern is on Mill St. strip with all the clothing, shoes, candy, kitchen, and bakery shops. I had the creamy beef stroganoff, it was delicious. My husband had the mouth watering ribeye with loaded baked, potato and French fries. Our friend had a salad with mild blue cheese dressing with the baseball, which is a filet mignon. It was seared a little too much, but still good. We topped it off with some Cream Brulee, that was a little thin, but still good. The service was friendly, but slow for our taste. Very good food with big portions, we will be back!

I took my sister to The Owl restaurant for lunch. We had the wedge salad, the prime rib sandwich and split a corn dog appetizer. It was delicious! Our server was the best server we’ve had in years! We thank you for a great meal & atmosphere.

I am thrilled that this restaurant has reopened and the new owners are doing an amazing job to keep many of the local legacy favorites! My wife and I ate here as part of a large (20+) group, the staff did an outstanding job keeping our group hydrated and happy. The food was timely and generous, appetizer, entree and dessert were all delicious. My wife and I will return for a more intimate experience though we thoroughly enjoyed our experience this round!
