During our self-guided food and bar crawl of West Bend’s Main Street, The Outbreak came highly recommended by several locals and bartenders as the perfect final stop — and they couldn’t have been more right! The ramen and potstickers were said to be the ideal end to the evening, and wow, they absolutely were.

The space itself is spotless, unique, and totally up my alley. Despite the apocalyptic theme, the atmosphere is warm, casual, and welcoming, with a fun cocktail menu to match. Our bartender was super friendly and made us feel right at home.

Drinks:
We tried the Yuzu Sour (honey liqueur, melon, yuzu lemonade purée, and sour soda) and the London Fog White Russian (vanilla vodka, Kahlúa, chilled Earl Grey tea, and cream). The Yuzu Sour definitely lives up to its name — tart but tasty! — and the White Russian was absolutely delicious.

Food:
We ordered the vegetable shiitake potstickers and Tochi. The food came out quickly and looked picture-perfect. I only tried the potstickers, but they were so good I could’ve easily ordered four more plates.

Dessert:
We grabbed slices of green tea cheesecake and raspberry cheesecake to go — both a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

The Outbreak was the perfect ending to our Main Street crawl. Great food, creative drinks, and a fantastic vibe. Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back if ever in West Bend again.

We stopped in for a drink before heading to dinner and were so glad we did. I wasn’t familiar with many of the cocktails on the menu, so I asked the bartender if the one I was interested in leaned sweet. She assured me it did—and she was absolutely right. After one sip, I was hooked. The drink, called Hanzo Hasashi, was bright, refreshing, and instantly reminded me of summer, which was an especially welcome surprise in the middle of winter.

My husband discovered the Ecto Cooler on tap and is now completely obsessed. Since we live over an hour away, we were thrilled to find cans at Jeff’s Spirits on Main so we could bring some home with us.

Although we didn’t try the food this visit, everything we saw and smelled looked incredible. It definitely gives us another reason to come back

It was my first time having restaurant ramen and this was good. I order braised beef udon, I realized I’m not a fan of the udon noodles. Just a bit doughy for my liking, but the flavor of the food was good! Also ordered the potstickers it was a Tuesday so they were on special and after the first order. I ordered two more orders that’s 15 potstickers and would so it again!! My friends ordered the butter corn and they both enjoyed it!!

I had the shittake vegetable potstickers, the soup at the top of their menu that begins with a “T” (it had miso broth, pork, noodles, and other things), and ordered their deviled eggs to-go. Everything looked great and tasted great! No complaints on the service, it was fast and friendly. No complaints on the atmosphere either.

Was passing through West Bend and looking for a place to eat. After strolling down Main Street checking out all the restaurants we were surprised to find Tochi Ramen in a bar. We talked to some other customers and they raved about how good the food was.

When we entered it was quiet, with a few people at the bar, and a couple tables with diners. Got served right away, we ordered a cocktail and beer. Our server recommended the special Hanzo Hasashi which was excellent.

Got a couple of orders of steamed buns, one Spam (love me some Spam) and the other Pork Belly. Both were fresh and flavorful. Got the Grass Fed Beef Mazeman. The flavors were amazing! Loved the smoked bone marrow butter. However the piece of beef in mind was tough and grizzled.

The atmosphere was chill and relaxed until halfway through our meal, a bunch of older men came into the bar, and were making a raucous, talking very loud, with plenty of profanity. Clearly having their idea of a good time.

We loved much of the experience, and would recommend it, but with some reservation.

The first night my group went the service and ramen were excellent. Second night we had a much different experience; blonde bob cut server was very snarky, short and rude to our table and any requests. Tried the Yuzu Chicken Shio only to realize it was chicken noodle soup 1 bite in. Server immediately seemed annoyed at me politely saying it wasn’t what I expected and would like to send it back for a different bowl. Was told I’d have to pay full price for any other bowl and there was nothing she could do or wanted to do as she threw a menu at me and began talking to others at the bar.

This is a truly unique place. Its styled interior is akin to a post apocalyptic or grim future. It features Asian dishes but doesn’t try and pretend that it’s Asian at all.

I had the tonkatsu and the broth was silky, delicious, and so robust. The shoyu broth of the braised beef using was amazing.

Be sure to also try the miso eggs, superb.

Can’t wait to try again

Place was great. Food was actually really good. The most ramen I’ve been used to lately is the microwave stuff which doesn’t even compare to what they make here. Will definitely go back for more.
