Chicken gyro had a bit too much sauce to my liking, but sauce wasn’t that heavy and gyro had a generous portion of chicken. Fries were solid and soup was nice and light. Blueberry pancake and service were great.
I will not ever return to The Other Place after our reception there this past week. From the moment we walked in, the man greeting customers and seating them was rude, hostile, and extremely unwelcoming. If I had had my druthers, we’d have turned around and walked out at that point, but I was one of four, all of us men up in age, and the oldest of us, who’s in his 90s, finds walking a bit difficult and I did not want to inconvenience him.
I have no idea what the problem of the man greeting and seating customers was, since he had never met any of us. It couldn’t have had to do with age, since two elderly women came in after us and he treated them hospitably. His venom seemed reserved for us explicitly, and venom it was. It gave me a bad taste for the entire restaurant and the food we ordered, which is typical Greek-American diner fare, pasta cooked to death, large portions, comfort food for those who grew up eating in places like this.
The senior member of our group was taken with the person who waited on us. He enjoyed joshing with her, and perhaps part of her strategy was to make up for the rude, hostile reception we got when we walked through the door.
Food cannot taste good in a restaurant in which you are greeted with hostility. Period. No one welcoming customers to a restaurant and seating them should ever fufill that role without showing respect, hospitality, and friendliness.
Period.
The menu leans into hearty, satisfying dishes prepared with a straightforward, home-style approach. Nothing feels overcomplicated, and that’s part of the restaurant’s charm. Whether you choose a classic diner-style breakfast, a well-seasoned entrée, or one of their generously portioned daily specials, the food arrives hot, flavorful, and exactly as advertised. It’s comfort food done right.
Service is friendly and down-to-earth. Staff members seem to know their crowd well—they keep things moving smoothly but are more than willing to chat, offer recommendations, or make small adjustments to your order. It’s personal without being intrusive.
Prices are refreshingly reasonable, especially given the hearty portions. You leave feeling full and satisfied without feeling like you overspent.
Overall, The Other Place Restaurant is a dependable, cozy, and genuinely enjoyable place to grab a meal. It’s not trying to be trendy or flashy—just consistently good, comforting food in a warm and familiar setting.
