This omakase experience is located in a very unassuming area. You check in at the front of Sushi-San and then are escorted to the second floor through a private entrance to a secluded lounge where you can order drinks. The drink menu is extensive with options for everyone. When dinner is ready the curtains open and you are seated at the sushi bar.
I enjoyed this omakase, the quality of ingredients used was very good. The flavors were nicely executed and did not overpower the fish. I like that all the courses weren’t nigiri. You start off with small plated dishes, then move on to nigiri, then dessert. The chef mentioned where the ingredients were sourced from before serving each dish. I normally am not a fan of caviar or uni, but I was surprised by the sweetness of the uni and I liked that the caviar was not just salty.
My only cons were that the chef seemed tired and brought the mood down. Maybe that is just his personality. I was also very underwhelmed by the dessert, I had higher expectations. Dessert was 2 courses, a sweet and salty egg dish and a ball of uni ice cream. Both were good, I was just expecting something more elevated.
Other than that it was a great experience. I enjoyed the exclusivity of enjoying this meal in a secluded unassuming part of the restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive. The fish and quality of ingredients were fresh. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the flavors were good. I would recommend the spirit free drink pairing. These drinks were a nice addition to the meal.

It’s a really nice place, all the waiter and waitress provided exceptional service. The food is fresh, especially urchin. Chutoro tasted good. I ordered two glass of cocktails, one association with melon taste, one strawberry highball, both of them are good with a balanced fruity taste. I realized that seaweed come within a wooden box, i’d be more appreciated if the chef can deal with the box separately from food, not grabbing seaweed from package and directly handling food to customers. Overall, a must try place in Chicago.

Wow, what an amazing experience. This was my first Omakase experience, and the minute you arrive, you can tell how professional the staff is, and how wonderful of a time you will have. From the food, to the selected food options, the whole dining experience was wondering. The chef was great and explained every meal and how to properly enjoy it. A bit of a sticker shock when it can to the bill, but overall, worth every penny.

I seriously wanted to give this place a 5 star rating. But one star got away because the evening went by super fast. I meant just approximately 75 minutes for the 18 course dinner.

This is not a pure Sushi (Nigiri) Omakase place, rather a part French-part Kaiseki-part Nigiri Omakase style place. The chefs don’t skimp on ingredients and everything is top quality. The taste is excellent as well as the execution. The service is shuttle yet never lacking. Yet, the dishes show up one after another without a break.

If the actual dinner time could be stretched out to 100 minutes, this place is destined to be a wholesome experience.

Very fun experience. The service was extraordinary. From the call the day of, to being greeted at the front door and the service during experience. It was cool to go through the speakeasy door past the regular packed restaurant to go up to the private room for 10. It was all great. A lot of tastings don’t have enough food, but we were actually full after the Omakase Room at Sushi San. I had the wine and sake tasting and everything paired perfectly. Things I would not normally drink were fantastic.

Hi
This meal was the best meal of my life. Mike and the other chef were amazing. The whole staff was accommodating, knowledgeable, and professional. Everything about this experience was perfect and warrants the price tag. I cannot wait to come back, just an excellent well thought out omakase. The pictures do not do the taste justice.

By far the best Omakase experience I have had in a long while. The wine and sake pairing were perfect and a great value with the meal. I could not possibly get photos of every dish as 18 courses is a lot and we were having fun. Great staff. Felt fancy without being stuffy. Will be back!

I visited the Omakase room a few weeks ago, and I can’t stop thinking about it. Everything from the food, to the presentation, to the service was absolutely amazing. I’m already saving up in order to return. Hopefully I can make here at least once a year if not more. The only thing was that I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to ask question or not as the room itself was very quiet and the chefs were both so in the zone. We got to take home a menu at the end as well which was really nice because then I can have a reminder of which dishes were my favorites since it was a lot of information to take in overall.

This was our first time dining at The Omakase Room at Sushi San and we can’t wait to return! The experience they curate is phenomenal. Prior to being seated for dinner, we were warmly welcomed by staff and presented with a nicely arranged cocktail menu. The seating area was quiet and comfortable, and when it was time to be seated the staff escorted us to our seats. We opted for the sake pairing and these were some of my favorite sakes so far. It was a pleasure watching our chefs work. We’ve dined with Chef Michael Graffeo before and were so thrilled to be able to see him work and to be presented with one amazing dish after another. Delicate yet filling, artistic and beautifully presented; this will be among the great Omakase offerings in Chicago for sure.
