Omg the cod sandwich is so good I could have drank the homemade remoulade. You must save room for their carrot cake or take a slice home like I did! Highly recommend this cafe.

Visited The Octopus’s Garden Cafe & Bistro during an East Coast road trip and I can confidently say that it was one of the worst places I’ve grabbed food at in all the provinces I visited.

First and foremost, the attitude of the main manager lady is awful. She has short grey hair and had one of the worst attitudes I’ve ever seen in the customer service industry. Lots of eye rolls and passive aggressive remarks, and just rude behaviour in general.

Even her attitude could be overlooked if the food was good, but it was extremely lack lustre. I ordered a $32 lobster roll for it to come out the size of my palm and practically deconstructed. $32 for something so incredibly tiny is absolutely insane.

I don’t mind paying a little bit more for good quality food and a fair portion – it doesn’t even have to be big. But these people give you practically nothing and called it a meal. Definitely would not be filling enough for one person and absolutely no way you could share this with someone else even if you wanted to.

The only reason why I didn’t give The Octopus’s Garden Cafe & Bistro a 1 star review is because of the other waitress who helped with our order and because of the lemon crumble square I got.

The other waitress who assisted with our order was much kinder and clearly knows what good customer service is. She was kind, quick and communicative throughout the entire process.

The only other thing worth mentioning is the lemon crumble square. One square is $6 which is quite pricey for a piece of pastry, but it was very well done. The lemon curd filing was well matched with the crumble base and the crumble sprinkled on top.

My main takeaways from dining at The Octopus’s Garden Cafe & Bistro:

– Food is extremely pricey for the small portion size you get. Chances are you will not be getting your money’s worth.

– Customer service is varied depending on which employee is working, but can definitely leave you with a sour taste in your mouth if your are met with the wrong attitude.

– Pastries and coffee maybe the only things worth going to this cafe for, as those are the only items that you get your money’s worth for.

In my experience, if you can save your time and money, do it and go somewhere else for your food. There is a fish and chips place down the road that gives you much better food and a much better portion size. Try and save the hassle of having to possibly deal with a cold attitude and try some place that may value customer service a little bit more.

We had the Cast Iron Seared Cod and Chicken Parmesan and both were outstanding. The chicken was tender, moist, and perfectly prepared and served over fresh fettuccine noodles. Both were topped with a light marinara sauce. It was the best Chicken Parmesan I’ve ever had in a restaurant. My wife enjoyed the cod that was soft, light, and flaky. It was served with mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, and broccoli. We were seated inside the restaurant were it was quiet and played some great 80s music (Not loud).

The food here is absolutely delicious. We have eaten here three different times now when camping at the Fundy National Park. The pasta dishes are all in house made pasta and amazing. The meat dishes too. This is not a pub style menu. It’s an impressive menu with the quality of food as good as the finest restaurants in any big city. We love this restaurant and will return every time we are in Alma.

We stopped here on the way back to our AirBnB. The food was excellent! The employees are very friendly and hospitable. We sat outside on the back deck next to the creek and listened to running water and birds while eating.
I ordered the Garlic Alfredo and my spouse ordered the Local Duck Leg Confit.
Recommended for a more fancier dining setting.
Menu for the dinner has been pictured in my photos.

PS. There are tons of baked goodies and specialty Cafe drinks available for purchase as well!

My boyfriend and I had such a great experience at Octopus Garden! We went on August 23, 2025, and I have to give a special shout-out to the two waitresses who were absolutely wonderful, even though the place was super busy and short-staffed. We started with the oysters and the cheese platter. The cheese platter was a bit simple, but still good value for the price. We also asked for a wine recommendation and loved the bottle they suggested (note that the wine is really affordable). The Amatriciana pasta was outstanding, and the duck confit was also really good considering the price. Honestly, the service was some of the best I’ve ever had!

I was not able to take photos of the food as I was really famished. I don’t really like tomato soup but this restaurant serves the best tomato soup I’ve ever had in my life! It’s really one of a kind and taste really fresh. We had lunch so I also had their southern chicken salad that was so good and the portion was a really good size. My husband did enjoy his lobster roll!! We can’t wait to be back and order the fresh pasta. Love love the food but the service can be slow… Been visiting this since the first time we ate here. The food really is superb! Their fresh pasta is even better than the famous Italian restaurant in Saint John! I can only say good things about the food!!! But yes service can be slow and the servers are not that friendly. Either way, I’d be back just cause of the food!!! You don’t really find good food here in NB

Went there twice on a recent visit to Alma. Once fir breakfast and ones for supper. Both meals were delicious. I believe their pasta is even homemade. All sorts of treats to order from the front along with coffee. Breakfast was also delicious. Service was a bit slower but apparently short staffing caused this.

I’ve driven across Canada and this was the best food all trip. I ate here breakfast lunch and dinner. The owner/chef Joel came out to chat multiple times describing the bacon he gets specially made, the locally sourced seafood, the tomatoes from Italy and the fresh pasta made DAILY. Rare to find a gem like this.
