It’s piping hot inside and during a summer lunch without any air circulation it was quite uncomfortable. My daughter and husband got Reubens and they were great! I loved munching on their fries, too! I wasn’t really able to eat my salad because I made the mistake of getting lobster salad as a topper. The lobster meat was surely past its prime and smelled/tasted too fishy and for me was inedible. The waitstaff was really sweet and attentive, so definitely stars for Lilly and Katie. Food-wise, this is a pass in the future.

Food and waitress were great. We sat outside and the three hostesses would not stop talking about personal information, critiquing customers as they came and left and generally not helpful to the waitress, buser or anyone else. Just a gossip session about restaurant drama that we had to listen to all through a nice lunch outside.

Prices here are ridiculous and food was very, very disappointing. Cup, not bowl, of chowder, $13. Burger…$27 and skimpy–nearly $10 to $15 higher than much better options at good local places. Fried chicken sandwich arrived and we mistook it for another burger–it was so over-fried. Upcharges for every little add and for refills of soft drinks (something that has disappeared almost everywhere).

Menu was very limited. Food was fine – fries were great, Reuben was average, cocktail was overly sweet. Music was too loud but was turned down to a tolerable level when we asked. Cozy traditional pub atmosphere. Service was great.

Lily our waiter was sweet. Hostess was extremely rude. Told us to wait 10 mins for a table. 20 mins later, no table yet they instantly seated a table of four when they arrived, claiming they were the owners. Hostess continues to talk to guests, texts on her phone and doesn’t seat us. We finally go to ask her about the table, then immediately takes us there. Clearly a lack of attention and care. Spending $150+ and such awful service. Not to mention the food lacks any and all seasoning. Well done burger wasn’t well done. Not worth your money.

Don’t waste your money here – it’s a ripoff. The $25 chicken wings (6) don’t even come with blue cheese or ranch dressing. It’s an extra $2 for that. Also the clam chowder had no clams in it. The newes used to be the place to eat in Edgartown if you were looking for good pub / American food, now prices are same as Atlantic and food is not as good. Just go to the wharf or seafood shanty instead if you’re thinking about going to the newes – it’s just not worth it. Trust me.

The Newes has been our family’s favorite restaurant on the Vineyard for thirty years. After looking at this new menu and the ridiculous prices now being charged, I believe I will skip even going there this summer. I feel very disappointed by what has happened to this once-great pub!
