We couldn’t wait to try the new Mexican restaurant in town and we were not disappointed. We got the breakfast burrito, huevos rancheros, French toast, and the corn cakes for brunch. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious except for the corn cakes. The corn cakes had a sour taste to them so we told the waitress and the manager removed from the bill. They have some really good coffee too. Service was fast and efficient and atmosphere was great. Really enjoyed the ambience. Overall great experience and food. Can’t wait to come back and try more.

I live so close to this new west county restaurant that I have watched the painfully slow process of recreating this space from the previous restaurant. The Mexican Barrel House did not disappoint! The design is unique, intentional, classy, and gorgeous! I read previous review and I have to say, they heard you! Service was outstanding! Our waitress was attentive. There was a separate server for hot food straight from the kitchen. There was a 20 minute wait at 6:00 on a Wednesday so be ready for a delay. However, we were able to get margaritas at the bar while we waited. The house margarita so far from standard. Expertly crafted using fresh limes. Now to discuss the food. The menu is not just traditional Mexican. It has some unique offerings. My husband hit a couple street tacos and tested the basics elements of their menu. They were perfection! The hard shell tasted fresh and homemade. I got a dish called arroz con pollo. The mango chipotle sauce was a blend of spicy and sweet. The veggies were slightly charred grilled and perfectly seasoned. I really cannot say enough good things. I can sometimes be hyperbolic when I get excited but I definitely have a new favorite Mexican restaurant. The Mexican Barrel House is a MUST TRY for the ambiance and menu. It’s a whole new experience. I can’t wait to sip drinks on the expansive deck in the spring!

I was really looking forward to trying The Mexican Barrel House after hearing about it coming for years, but my dinner visit over the weekend was disappointing on several fronts. There are no free chips and salsa (it’s $5), and most entrees come with beans or rice, not both. The biggest issue was the service: after 50 minutes with no food, we asked the server to check, and 2 minutes later she brought out our (lukewarm) meals. Even a simple two-taco order had two mistakes. On the plus side, the decor is interesting and the food itself was ok. Definitely not worth the premium prices they charge.

Skirt steak and pork steak were cooked perfect, tortillas were cold. By the time server came back to let her know, fresh hot tortillas came and my skirt steak was almost cold. Steak taco was good chicken taco not so good as was the avocado slice. Roasted salsa was $4.25 with chips that look like they came out of the bottom of the bag. Nice variety on the menu. Charro beans and corn were pretty good. Look forward to trying the tacos a la carte. Nice atmosphere

I ordered the luncheon chicken fajitas with all rice and no beans. The chicken, bell peppers and onions sat on top of ribbon cut potatoes and pico. The chicken was tender and seasoned well. The potatoes and pico mixture felt more like a combination to include in a breakfast dish. The fajitas were light on bell pepper slices and I would prefer more peppers and hold the potatoes. The bartender was very busy so service was a little slow. They have an interesting menu so I’ll be back. I don’t think this restaurant has been open long and it felt like they’re still working out issues.

First time but not the last. Decor is absolutely amazing. So much eye candy and attention to details. Chips are solid perfect dippers. Loved the tasting selection of sauces and salsas. Roasted, mango habanero were the faves for the salsa and Carolina Gold led the bbq sauces. Guac was fresh and a good sized portion.
I wanted to try a couple different things so I ordered with leftovers in mind. The wings were very good sized, perfectly cooked without being overdone. The chayo bbq sauce was balanced without being too sweet.
The brisket is some of the best we have had since moving back to St. Louis from Texas. Fork tender with just the right amount of smoke. I made yummy little tacos with the accompanying corn tortillas, pickled onions and jalapenos. Throw on the sauces and a little guac?
My wife thoroughly enjoyed her selection of tacos. We’re super excited that they’re here in Creve Coeur and are looking forward to returning soon.

Brunch was amazing. Can’t wait to come back and try out the dinner menu. Our server, Brady, did a great job and made sure we were well taken care of. The decor is a constant surprise everywhere you turn.

I hold good Mexican food in high regard, having lived in Mexico for over a decade. I also love Tex Mex food. Mexican Barrel delivers a wonderful combination of these two cuisines.
The service was thoughtful and our server helped us navigate the new menu. Table favorites were the brisket – so tender – and the carne asada. My wife loved the chicken with chorizo and queso !
Best of all, our waitress took the time to split our bill so our large group could pay for the birthday girls’ meals!
Thanks Mexican Barrel. Wishing thousand much success.

I had seen an article about this place and we were over that way so we checked it out. Personally, the atmosphere was great with fantastic decor. The service was incredible! The problem was the food. I will say our plates both looked great, that being said, the flavor was sub par. Both were bland. The fries on my dish were the most flavorful thing. Mine was ok, but they forgot to leave off the avocado. My wife’s fajita bowl had burned potatoes, undercooked vegetables and the rice and steak were just there with no flavor. I’m still going to say to try them because the kitchen might have been having a terrible day, but I’ll probably pass because I passed 4 other places on the way to Costco that I have enjoyed in the past.

Really enjoyed this new restaurant. It is a bit more expensive than your “normal” Mexican restaurant but it is also higher quality and a beautiful atmosphere.
For a restaurant that isn’t officially opened yet, it was quite busy. We had a 15 minute wait for just two of us before 5:30 and when we left at 6:30 there was quite a crowd waiting.
If I had a complaint it would be that they charge for chips and salsa. One of my pet peeves is charging for chips and salsa. I will say that the salsa was delicious, if just a tad spicy, I just don’t like paying for it when I’m paying $18 for a burrito.
Overall, very good. Don’t expect to find everything you would at other Mexican places but you will make some delicious new discoveries. It’s quite a drive for me but absolutely worth the time.
