Being based in Olympia, they also offer multiple vegan pizzas so that all may be included. I will definitely be back with family and friends:)
TLDR Version: FUTURE customers…. Food options are individual slices of pizza, or small side salads. You won’t have table service, and will be ordering at the bar. It is CASH-ONLY. You may experience strange customer-service behavior, and weird excuses for things.
Overall, I was really confused here. I was expecting a high-end experience, but it really wasn’t… at all.
The vibe and atmosphere IS 10/10. There is nothing as cute and stylish in Olympia. It’s SUCH a beautiful, relaxing space.
But the experience…. Order at the counter, only small portions available, cash only…. Makes me so confused. It does not match the environment. I was expecting to spend $$$ on a fancy dinner here, but the menu didn’t provide the opportunity to do so. Drinks on the other hand were $$$ — overpriced. But they were also underpoured, and not very good.
My partner ordered an old fashioned and instead of using sugar or a simple syrup for a sweetener, the bartender used a dribble of cherry juice, stating that it wouldn’t give him cancer… odd.
We left soon after ordering a pair of drinks and a slice of pizza because… I wanted dinner and quickly realized we couldn’t really get that here.
This would be a perfect spot for… Happy hour? Lunch? But they don’t open until 5:30… Dinner time. Soooo why aren’t there large portion options? For example, I would have loved to have ordered a large salad entree and easily paid… $20-25, but I could only order a $6 very small side salad. Like… What? If they are already making small salads… couldn’t they make entree sized salads too?
And actually is it open at 5:30 or is it 6? They have 2 signs outside the building with different open hours…? That’s confusing.
I saw this other couple (younger) in the restaurant who presumably were on a date night… They looked incredibly disappointed. I imagined they wanted dinner too.
The pictures on Google maps of food items that aren’t pizza are no longer accurate.
Also, the lit up open sign should be raised higher so that people can actually see it from the road.
The Mark is now a sophisticated cocktail bar, with luxuriant real wood wall paneling, genuine leather seating, a beautiful and well stocked bar, real art and bits of humor and history make touring the walls, drink in hand, a moment worth repeating.
The pizza is the real thing, think Rome, not Chicago. You can cut the chef’s accent with a knife. and do hope he’s parked his 63 Porsche out front.
Yes, you do have to walk to and from the bar for your order, and pay cash (there a $2 ATM). But that bit of effort earns you excellent drinks, fairly poured, reasonably priced. And for us extreme radicals who get our cash from the credit union we help the owner behind the bar, who created this evening refuge for us, stiff the banks.
I love this place. Let’s keep it.
