This place is the first place that made me mad with tacos. This is not a typical sit-down Mexican food type esblishment. The meats were overseasoned and overcooked. The tortillas seemed straight out of a bag. Spent more than $60 for four tacos, a gross cup of dirty rice (as in Cajun style dirty rice, not Spanish rice), and two of the worst “margaritas” I’ve ever had. Had high hopes for this place, but overall, I wasn’t satisfied. If you’ve never had actual tacos, you may love it; but I personally advise looking elsewhere. This place did have cool merch, but unfortunately, I have no nice things to commend the establishment pertaining to food, service, or atmosphere. This building is pretty much run like a food truck as no one will come to ask you “how are things”, “do you need silverware”, etc; and you’re expected to bus your own table at the end. I feel like brick and mortar locations should embrace the service aspect of dining and cater to the crowds craving not only the food but also the experience.

Definitely a disappointment at this location. How can the meat be dry yet pouring out greasy oil at the same time? Nothing had flavor, and I mean nothing. We had chicken tortilla soup that tasted like chunky water at $10 per bowl ( bowl size was big, portion size was not) the pork shoulder tacos were so dry with not one bit of taste, just oil, extra extra oil. I literally had to wrap it in paper towels and wring it out like a wet rag. Absolutely disgusting.
We have been to other locations, yet never had a problem. This place, no thanks! Don’t waste your money for overpriced oil.

Never been here before but stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered the shrimp tacos. They were delicious. Shrimp were perfectly grilled and the pineapple salsa on top was fresh and flavorful.

Fantastic tacos! The staff is very friendly and helped us with what to do in the area! Not the cheapest around but totally worth the price. Two super stuffed tacos come per order. Try the house made chorizo – it is not very spicy but there are a variety of hot sauces to spice it up! The star was the garlic fries – crispy fresh made fries with an amazing garlic sauce!!!!

I went on day 5 of being opened, so keep that in mind. This location just does not have that something special the other locations have yet. It smells like popcorn, the minute you walk in the door, and the decor is all off; it just feels awkward. As for the food, it was was good, but not great. I think the chefs are still trying to get their feet underneath them. I will definitely be back, as I was very excited to hear of this opening. After a few weeks, they should get their groove back, and I’ll update my review accordingly.

The Mad taco in Essex never disappoints. Chefs seasonings are on point every time. The guacamole, homemade sour cream and hot sauces are delicious. Staff is always bright and service is quick considering how awesome it taste!

Great food, flavorful and artfully made. Service and atmosphere inconsistent.
My Al Pastor Burrito came stuffed with juicy pork; it had more meat than rice and cheese.
I ordered it dry and chose some of the great salsas/hot sauces to put on top.
The carnitas tacos also had a generous supply of meat. Would have liked a little more verde sauce, but they were flavorful.
This is the awkward step-brother of the founding location in Waitsfield. But, while the atmosphere in Waitfield is more lively and energetic, I liked this food better.
The service is a little inconsistent. They have paper straws, but bring out my burrito with a plastic fork.

Wow!! Really incredible food. The seitan was perfect, tons of food, easily two meals worth on a single order. 10/10 would recommend.

$72 for 4 tacos, a cup of rice and 2 margaritas. The food was over cooked and the seating area was dirty. Very overpriced for a chain take out place.

I am not the biggest fan of Mexican food. However, I have heard the hype of The Mad Taco based on the two other locations. Wife and I decided to try it out. By far, the best Mexican food in VT so far. Def. plan on going back in the future. This isn’t on the menu, but the tacos come in orders of 2.
