We stopped here after a movie yesterday. We didn’t have reservations but luckily the hostess sat us at a table with a beautiful sunset view. I started with the sunset fizz cocktail which was sweet but delicious. We shared a half a dozen oysters, the roasted beet salad and freshly made jalapeño poppers. My husband had the peanut butter bomb for dessert and I had the citrus ricotta cheesecake. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully, Georgia was our server and sweet enough to take pics for us. All in all a lovely evening

LOOKOUT…Let’s talk about flavor, flair and service. The location is great, right on the water too. My wife and I went to “The Lookout” for our Anniversary and loved every minute of it. The drinks are amazing and within the mixed drink price range but very creative… I’ve never had chocolate bitters but wow what an inhancement to the chai infused Whiskey, Bravo… The Salmon Wellington was subtle and delightful and the Asparagus was perfect… the Scallops not only looked great (presentation people) the raisins added an extra layer of complexity that made the meal unique and one we’ll get again in the future. I Haven’t told you about the appetizer, My wife and I shared the muscles and let me tell you somebody could have given us a straw and we would have been happy with the broth alone, the muscles are tender and the flavor just right. The desert as you can see was served with flair and the picture doesn’t do the flavor you’ll experience justice. Last but not least, the staff, from the manager to our amazing server was spot-on. The table touch was timely and thoughtful, natural and friendly. Our server was informative and made our anniversary even more amazing. The Lookout is something to look forward to on your time in Cape May… sunset, meal, service equals happy hour.

We had a wonderful evening at The Lookout this week during our stay in Cape May. The service was excellent with a friendly and accommodating staff! The cocktails were some of the best I’ve had in Cape May. My order (colossal salt & pepper shrimp and a roast chicken entree) were spot-on delicious! My wife had ordered oysters, grilled octopus, and burrata. She felt the octopus had a bit too much of a kick (I enjoyed it) and the burrata was just so-so. Desserts were also exceptional: key lime pie and chocolate cake. Would suggest some ambient music to complete the effect. Overall, a great first time – I look forward to coming back again!

My wife and I were seeking an upscale dining experience to celebrate our anniversary that would include a beautiful view and outside seating option. We are so glad we selected “The Lookout”. I was a bit skeptical about fine dining in the ferry terminal but we both were pleasantly surprised by the setting, the food and the service. The poor weather did not permit outdoor dining however the inside tables were spaced in a manner that provided a comfortable setting with outstanding views. We both opted to go with the chef’s special (see pic) and were not disappointed. Our server, Carly, did an excellent job at answering our menu questions as well as checking in occasionally to see how we were doing. We will definitely return.

I am not one to normally write a review or complain about a business, however, the experience here was unfortunately not acceptable and unpleasant. Our reservation was made over a month and half in advance using AmEx and Resy, yet we were seated at a side bench table. This normally would not to rise to a complaint except the top of the bench table above the seats is used as a server station. When we asked to be moved the hostess acknowledged she herself does not like to sit people at the table because the bench is used as a server station above where people are seated. Once our table was switched the waitress informed us they ran out of one of the entrees. The menu has only 6 entrees and there are no specials so running out of one severely limits the menu. We then ordered appetizers. The waitress came back and advised she was sorry but they just sold the last of one of the appetizers and would we like to change to something else. When entrees arrived one of the filet mignons did not come out, after about 5 mins of everybody having their meal the waitress informed us the filet was over cooked and they were re cooking it. At this time the waitress called last call for the bar. She informed us the restaurant is only allowed to serve alcohol until 10. While that is not the restaurants fault they should warn people making a reservation at 8:30 or later that the bar will not stay open for the duration of the meal prior to taking the reservation. When the missing “filet” came out it was readily apparent it was not a filet mignon but rather a skirt steak or another cut of meat folded in half to look like a filet. When we informed the waitress she agreed it was not a filet did not know where that cut of meat came from or what it was but it was not a filet. She said she would speak to manager and take it off the bill, which was done but the manager never came over to apologize or explain what occurred. The rest of the night was uneventful except for another member of the wait staff who spent the night periodically sitting at the table next to us and texting on her phone. The kicker of all this is while we paid the bill and tipped the waitress more than the requisite 20% even on the filet that was taken off the bill a couple of days after eating there we realized the restaurant in explicably added over $21 to the credit card. The only saving grace was our waitress who unfortunately had to spend most of the night apologizing for things beyond her control. Unfortunately, while the views are great the restaurant is not ready for what it hopes to be, a casual upscale shore dining experience. While we would normally be open to giving a new restaurant another chance the faking of a filet mignon and then overcharging the credit card will give us second thoughts about going here in the future. It is sad as we spend much of our summer in the area and even weekends in the winter and had high hopes for this new dining experience and in the end were left feeling somewhat scammed.

If you’ve been around long enough you remember the old ferry terminals in Cape May and Lewes. They were barely a step up from the Port Authority Bus station in NYC. Fortunately DRBA has realized that leasing them out makes a great use of these spaces, and the Lookout is an amazing example of what can happen in the right hands.
The location is amazing on top of the terminal building and has been attractively renovated and is a wonderful space for a nice meal. The bar is especially nicely done.
The menu is well thought out and presented. The cocktail menu has some very orginal items down to the glassware and presentation. The presentation of all of the food was creative as well, adding to the ambiance.
The menu includes a number of fish and meat dishes, including raw bar and seafood tower items. We enjoyed the grilled oysters. Portions are generous for the food, so don’t be put off by the prices – you’re getting your money worth.
Overall this is a unique spot for a nice meal with a view and an attentive staff. Look forward to returning!

Sadly, we had high expectations, couldn’t have been more disappointed.
Gorgeous view, but food portions were small and hardly any flavor. I had mahi mahi that was tasteless and dry, even though it was presented beautifully.
Hubs had salmon en croûte, not much flavor!!
And for $39-$41 a plate, A small salad would have been nice and or some bread? you could purchase a salad for $14, but bread was not even an option on the menu!
Service was good
I won’t be back though!
I’d be surprised if this restaurant stays in biz without making some much needed changes!
Three of us had 1 drink and an entree, bill was $200!!

Great dining venue with a killer view of the Delaware bay. Spend time to catch the sunset right before dinner and you can get amazing pictures. The food and the service is great.

The Cape May Ferry Terminal, sounds like a bus station, but the new Terminal is finished to a very high standard. More in line with a fancy office building. The second floor is the best restrant setting in Cape May, and maybe the best in New Jersey. It has a wonderful view of the Delaware Bay, and of the Ferres, and boats navigating the Cannel. Besides the unbelievable Sunsets, the food is as good as it gets, equivalent to a 4-5 star restaurant anywhere. The service is near perfect, and the price very reasonable. Having drinks on the veranda before eating is as good as it gets !! eNJoy
