Great place and the food is delicious
“The chick” was so yum. The chicken with the melted cheese ! The burgers are so good too, fries and the pretzel with beer cheese. The service and atmosphere was excellent also and loved the fire place .

Outstanding restaurant! Our meal was fantastic! We met the owner and chatted for a few minutes! The food was awesome… and EVERYTHING is made fresh — the hand cut fries are delicious, and our burger was amazing! Definitely worthh the visit, and we will be coming back soon! It’s super clean and has a new modern/rustic atmosphere…. kuddos that it’s also co-located with a nice mountain gas station! Love ❤️ it!

This place sucks, they can never get my order right and i keep coming back because of the convenience but i’ve had enough of them messing up a simple steak quesadilla. Don’t get food here this place is definitely not a 4.6 star reviews HAVE to be fake. I’m a local and year round this place has done nothing but disappoint me. I ask for no onions every time, and they’ll either add them or overcook the quesadilla.

This restaurant is the BEST!!! From the moment we walked, the service was excellent… even got to talk to the owner and hear the back story of him being from Texas and the other owner from Miami…. Which is where the fusion of BBQ and Cuban comes from! The food was incredible!!! We will go back every time we’re in that part of North Carolina during Spring Break! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

6-2023, Great find in the mountains… definitely looks like a local spot! Food was awesome and the Folks here were super cool! Nice people. The decor was great and the tables were clean. As we were finishing our food they were setting up for music (solo band) glad I found this place definitely will return.

Trying not to be a loser and write a long review, unfortunately I can’t throw enough praise at this place.

The food is some of the best you’ll find up here or most places honestly, nothing but unpretentious delicious dishes across the menu. Onion rings were some of the best I’ve ever had, and I’d put that chicken sandwich (pictured) up against any place in the country I’ve had one (and I love me a chicken sandwich, probably my go-to meal.)

David behind bar and the rest of the team gave exceptional service, it was fun chatting with him waiting on some dessert for the road.

Killer selection of hot sauces too (literally ordered two online when I got home,) and I can’t think of a place around with cheaper, colder beer. They’ve also got a fantastic selection of top-shelf liquor, and very fairly priced cocktails, if that’s your thing.

If you have a larger group especially I can’t recommend The Local enough— it’s tough to fit a larger party at one table in Highlands or Cashiers, but not here, and their food is a great way to introduce new people to this neck of the woods.

Open year-round (!!) with live music Fridays and Saturdays (+Thursdays in the summer,) my only regret is not finding this place sooner. Whether local or tourist I cannot emphasize enough, ‘The Local’ is an absolute banger of a restaurant/bar.

Portion size scammers.

Im a regular customer who consistently orders the same few items and I ALWAYS leave a 15% tip which is more than fair for a to-go order.

They scam me on portion sizes every chance they get and im tired of it. They charge $2 for a side of beer cheese which is supposed to come in a 4oz cup but it almost always comes in a 2oz cup. Same with the black beans and rice. The last 2 consecutive times I came, they packaged the black beans in a smaller container than usual AND they filled it with mostly water. This time I said something and the guy went back and mulled in the kitchen for almost 2 minutes before coming back and all he did was just pour some water out. They charge $2.50 for half a can of black beans that costs 80 cents from Ingles and they cant even give me the portion I paid for. Look at the picture. It’s barely half full for Christ’s sake. And what IS there is mostly water!

The prices are already ridiculous and they feel the need to scam on portions on top of that?!?

If you dont gave enough food for a whole portion, you shouldn’t be charging full price.

Edit: If anyone with authority sees this, please fix this. My orders are always small and simple and very rarely do I order modifications. Im always quiet, patient, and respectful. I always tip. I haven’t given them a reason to consistently short change me on food which means they’re either being told to do this by management or they are scraping the bottom of the pan for the last 5% of food while they charge me for a whole portion. Either option is unacceptable. Idk if I ever wanna tip again. Im gonna have to think about it. It’s not like my tip is appreciated anyways.

Like I know 15% isnt exactly the big bucks but its more than fair for a small and simple to-go order for 1 person. I work for tips too and im a cook in a restaraunt so im not some entitled customer speaking from a privileged position. As a fellow professional, this ain’t it.

This place is the destination after you’ve reached your destination. Famished, after a long mountain hike, pop on in for an ice cold brew and a breakfast lunch and dinner burger! It’s 3 meals in one and I didn’t even get the fries. I got the John burger, which was collosal, burger patty topped with brisket, cheese, and onion rings! It’s everything you want on a sandwich and then some more goodness! My wife got the steak quesadilla which was amazing and pretty sure made with homemade tortillas. We also got chips and guacamole. The chips were those really good fried chips and the guac was fresh and made with love! We got a side of Mac and cheese skillet for the kids topped with bacon. Everything was spot on deliciousness and I’d highly recommend it all. Wish I would’ve gotten a hat to rep! Great job! Keep up the great work!

Don’t waste your time. The smoked wings looked like they had been in the smoker for days. Hardly any meat on them and so dry they were basically petrified. The brisket was so salty it would dry up a waterfall. I guess the best thing about the place was the $4 draft Model.
