Cool bi-level spot for thoughtfully sourced New American fare, gourmet burgers & craft cocktails.

Drinks are good. Very interesting menu, but expensive. We had a group with us and the waitress told us we couldn’t order a shot of something., “we don’t do shots here”. Seems odd since this is a bar. Also, i have gotten a shot here before. The food leaves something to be desired. Very odd menu. No comfort foods, except for flatbread. Even that is a little too out there. Don’t need to go back. Plenty of other better places in town!

A very enjoyable dining experience. The three staff members who tended to my table were all pleasant, responsive and helpful. The Baby Mixed Greens salad, vegan burrito, and raspberry & fruit sorbet were all excellent. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt it was a bit too dark in the loft seating area.

I came here on a Wednesday because many of the items are half off on this day. I had the regular burger and it was just ok. I heard the filet mignon burger was much better and I’ll likely try that the next time I go. Also, the salmon is supposedly really good. If you can get a seat on the patio, the ambiance is really nice!

I love this place! The Food is great – and people who like craft beer can get a great selection. They try to have local Vermont ingredients when in season and pastured fed meats. There are a good variety of gluten free and vegetarian selections as sell – which the friendly staff will help you with any questions on. The atmosphere – especially in the summer when you can dine outside and view the Otter Creek – is memorable!! Very relaxing!
To start – I love either the Herbed vermont Chevre or the roasted Broccolini – with the baby mixed green salad – but my friends love the shaved red onion, bleu cheese, candied pecans OR the chipotle bourbon braised pork chili!!! For a meal – – I love the Butternut Squash & Mushroom Tart – with the many accompaniments – but friends love the many Burger choices and NY Strip Steak!
They do have a bar for those that don’t want to dine – –
When I lived in Brandon, Vermont with many weekend guests from the Connecticut, New York, California and parts all over coming to visit – in the summer they all still talk about eating out on the deck on the Otter Creek – it really is idyllic, comfortable to dine as a single, with a friend or several – and people remember it!

Very good food and drinks, and interesting setup. Unfortunately the experience was tainted by the waiter being disrespectful and extremely unhelpful:
I asked if the vegetarian ‘meatball’ sub was vegan if I skipped the cheese. The waiter replied “sure, we can skip the bread and make it vegan”. After a moment of confusion, I explained what vegan meant and suggested that maybe he was thinking of gluten-free. He said he heard me correctly and knew what vegan meant, and that “bread isn’t vegan”. When he saw my incredulous look he flatly stated that bread contains eggs (as if it was the most obvious thing in the world that everyone knows). Just to be sure, I asked him to clarify if he meant this bread specifically (a fairly mundane baguette, it turns out), or all the bread in this restaurant, or simply all bread- and he confidently insisted that ALL bread contains eggs. He was not moved when I simply said “that’s incorrect”.(To be clear to anyone reading this: The waiter was 100% incorrect, most bread is not made with eggs, including any baguette I’ve ever heard of).. At this point my friends where looking at me like I’m a crazy person, and it seemed pointless to ask this waiter to check with someone else, so I told him to just bring me the sandwich like normal except without the cheese.
If I had listened to this waiter, I would not have been able to enjoy a very tasty and 100% vegan sandwich. Very much a first-world problem I know, but pretty annoying- I am quite happy with my vegan diet, and don’t need additional dietary restrictions imposed on me by ignorant fools.. I have no problem with someone being uninformed or mistaken (we all are about most things), but it is ridiculous for someone to be so stubborn and unjustifiably confident about something they clearly know nothing about. Especially something that is so easy to verify and when it is very much related to your job duties to either know these things or at least not give blatantly false information to your customers.
The service was otherwise pretty good (despite the attitude), so he got an 11% tip (half my usual amount), which I think was probably too generous considering what an ass he was..
PS- I meant to post this review months ago (Feb 2018), but just realized I never posted it.

Somewhat inconsistent, burgers nail it, servers great, cocktails awesome, but odd things effect the execution. Some dishes are good in concept but lackluster (e.g., fettuccine), some tables are dark and isolated (e.g., 2nd floor), and the salads while good are too few, why? I gave it 4 because it can work but strong emphasis it could disappoint.

I love this place! Great burgers, appetizers are fun and interesting, and the service was great. The unique decor and specialized fixtures make this place a must- go! I’m not in Middlebury often, but when I am this is where I eat!

This place was eh on food. It is probably the best in the area, but that’s very relative. All of the food was extremely oily and we literally had to run home afterwards. We had the salmon (which had an odd tapenade dressing ontop) and the ny strip. The salmon’s potatoes and beans were covered in oil. The strip seemed of cheap quality and the broccolini was just sopping in oil. We couldn’t finish our meals. The cheesy polenta was good. However, The calamari was excellent, fresh, and a healthy portion! But of course, oily, but that’s expected! The view is excellent and the service was pretty good. I wouldn’t go here again-especially not for the prices. The cocktails seemed good, but we didn’t try any.

I’ve live my entire life near NYC, but this place has the best cocktails anywhere. Great service and very good food too. And the atmosphere is terrific.

Went twice. First time the food was bad. Second time the waitress coughed on her hands and did not even think it was something she should not be doing. I came back home feeling super sick and wanting to vomit. Don’t eat here. Pass the word.
