The food and drinks were amazing. Each of my friends and I loved our various cocktails and our waitress recommended the roast carrots to rave reviews. The pumpkin creme brulee was so good that we all started scheming to add it to our thanksgiving menus. HOWEVER, the music was absolutely disastrous. It was poundingly loud and with genre swings that were both disruptive and at odds with the aesthetic of the space. At one point the Titanic theme song started and then, was abruptly replaced with a thumoing bass track. It felt like conversation was fighting uphill which was a huge detraction to the enjoyable food and delightful drinks along with soothing cozy lighting. Another point the music got so loud that when we finally pled with the staff to turn it down other tables clapped as it got quieter. Despite the amazing food, we agreed the noise was so uncomfortable we wouldn’t want to return.

On a snowy February evening, there was absolutely no shortage of superb food, inventive cocktails, and excellent service at The Last Word. This is a polished and designed experience that demonstrates real thought and commitment to high quality. Yet, it also somehow avoids feeling snobby, pretentious, stuffy, and imposing. Instead, the cozy, welcoming, accessible, and warm atmosphere allowed cocktail beginners and cocktail connoisseurs to both feel like their expectations were met and even exceeded. I could not recommend this bar enough and look forward to returning as soon as possible.

If you are a speakeasy and/or cocktail enthusiast, this is a must. Sat at the bar for dinner and was recommended a phenomenal cocktail by the bartender. Food and ambiance were equally impressive, but the service was undoubtedly the best part of my experience. Because I was on the way to Detroit for a work conference, the staff wrote a list of restaurant recommendations for the city that did not disappoint. 10/10

You ever find yourself moseying into The Last Word on a night when you’re looking for a proper cocktail and a place that’s got a little class but still lets you breathe easy? Well pitter patter, let’s get at ’er.
First thing you notice walking in is the atmosphere. Speakeasy style, dark and cozy, but not the kind of dark where you’re holding your phone flashlight over the menu like a caveman discovering fire. No sir. Just the right amount of dim so everything feels cool and relaxed without feeling like you’ve stumbled into a bat cave.
The cocktails? Absolute beauts. Real craftsmanship. None of that “splash of this, glug of that, shake it twice and charge ya 18 bucks” nonsense. These are thoughtful drinks. Balanced. Tasty. The kind where you take a sip and give a little nod like, “Well alright then.” And if you’ve got a few of ’em you might start thinking you’re funnier than you actually are, but that’s a risk worth taking.
And let’s talk about the service. Sara was our waitress and she was an absolute beauty. Friendly, attentive, quick with recommendations, and never once hovering around the table like a seagull at a chip truck. She checked in when she should, gave us space when we needed it, and kept the whole thing running smoother than a fresh sheet of ice.
Noise level was perfect too. You couldn’t clearly hear the folks at the next table—which is ideal, because nobody needs to hear a stranger’s entire hinge date play-by-play—but you could still chat easy with your crew. That perfect middle ground a lot of places try for and miss by a country mile.
So if you’re in the mood for great cocktails, solid vibes, and service that’s top shelf, you could do a whole lot worse than The Last Word.
And that’s what I appreciates about it.

The Last Word is, without a doubt, one of Ann Arbor’s top destinations for serious cocktails. This place offers a dark, cozy, and sophisticated atmosphere that makes it perfect for intimate conversation and savoring expertly crafted drinks. They truly excel at classic cocktails, and their namesake drink, The Last Word, is perfection every single time—balanced, complex, and refreshing. I also absolutely love their Islay Sour—the scotch drink made with Laphroaig and egg whites. That smoky, frothy creation is the reason I keep coming back

Joaquin took excellent care of us and knows the menu well. We enjoyed three dishes during happy hour, house manhattans and a proper gin martini. There’s some magic happening in that kitchen!

They got some real funky and creative drinks along with your usual roundup of cocktails. Interior vibes are great and the place is super nondescript from the outside. Great place to go for a date or just to chill for a while.

Very cool place with speakeasy vibes and phenomenal drinks! It gets very busy though, so be prepared for a wait time if you walk in. However, despite it being a fairly small place, there is a standing bar that you can wait at and still order drinks so it works out nicely!

Cocktails are always amazing and I would 100% come back just for their drinks. Food wise – I’m not sure. Wasn’t as good as about year ago. The pork belly bao buns just didn’t hit as good as they previously did. Still fine but not exactly what I remember.
