Updated: Came back here for my bday on Feb 12, and I was told by Dan, who helped us for the night, that it was also his birthday!!! I got to share a slice of cake with Dan even though he said that I dont have to do that. He took care of us so well and absolutely made my day extra special, I just had to share at least a slice with him Thank you and happy belated birthday to us Dan!!!
This time I went for the ribeye duo and that was probably the best best option for quality and price point! The meat was perfectly cooked to medium rare, so tender and love the slightly charbroiled taste from the grilling. Still go for the same sides of mushrooms and broccolini cuz those are my favorite. And of course the beef tartare
Oh and theres a handwritten card. Beautiful handwriting!!! Thank you team its always a great experience whenever we visited!

Been here first time for the YYC experience in March 2025 and it has been the top option for any of our celebration so far for the whole year. Every time we just booked table without letting them know the occasion, but I heard they will prepare cards/flowers if you let them know in advance!
The most recent time was Boxing Day for their steak promo. We tried the AB wagyu platter, which was great value and quality for the price. We also tried their Japanese A5 Wagyu, which was way more expensive but its totally worth it. I usually asked for their broccolini and mushroom for the side as they are my favourite. Beef tartare was so fresh and tasty. Literally nothing we ever ordered disappointed us.
We never tried their wine/cocktails cuz we cant drink but their mocktails are amazing!
We love everything here from the food, service to the cozy atmosphere with all the ambient lighting. Recommended Blue Sky and Tropical Dream!
Also shoutout to Peter/Petar, he helped us twice with our dinner and he’s the best! He takes good care of us and makes sure we’re happy with everything!
Looking forward to celebrating my birthday + our anniversary in Feb and more during the year with them!

Great service and food! I really liked the atmosphere.

There was a piece of plastic in the seafood roll, which is why I deducted a point. However, our server Petar handled the situation quickly and professionally, he removed the item from our bill, comped our two drinks, gave us a lobster tail, and even treated us to a free dessert. We really appreciate it.

My server Dan knows the steaks really well, he recommended medium for the rib eye (14 oz). I usually go for medium rare, but glad I took Dan’s suggestion.

The rib eye from Warner, Alberta, came out perfect as it was cooked to a true medium to me (and not overcooked). Super tender and rich in flavour “as is” with the pre-seasoning. And the three flavours of salt provided was like sparkle on top.

The sides were in really good portion as Dan suggested. One free choice came with the rib eye order, and I selected the roasted beet. The warm beet pieces really brought out great flavour. The other side dish ordered was the steak fried rice which was also great, and again truly good in portion.

The above (one main + two sides) was shared as my wife wasn’t too hungry that evening.

As for desserts, the creme brulee was great with the layer of caramelized sugar crust burnt just right, and with an rich egg custard below. The baked alaska could be better.

This was definitely one of the better fine dining experiences I had recently. I would recommend Modern Stake for people visiting downtown Calgary like I was.

Came here on Valentines day and had their 5 course dinner. They had pretty good options available, and the service was top notch. Our waiter was very attentive and even over heard me talking about my fav cocktail and he offered to make it even tho its not on the menu. The steak was perfectly done and we absolutely loved the brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. We were lucky to get seated upstairs as it was much quieter and intimate.

Came here for our Valentine’s Day dinner and I’m glad to say they did not disappoint. Each person got to pick their own dishes for each course so we got to try everything since my partner and I picked opposite dishes. Everything tasted great! I originally chose the mango sorbet for dessert but they gave me raspberry as they were trying to find the mango. They even offered me an option to get a second dessert on the house if there was no mango. Customer service was top notch and I appreciate them trying their best to satisfy our requests.

The valentine’s day dinner was AMAZING. Our server was so nice and the food was delicious! The lobster bisque was top tier. My fiance genuinely said after the fact that those brussels sprouts are now in his top 5 favourite meals ever. The rose and lavender lemon drop changed my life. Everything was amazing. A huge thank you to our server as well. Considering it was valentine’s day at 10pm, and i’m sure it had been a long day, you absolutely rocked. 10/10 on every level

Had an amazing and lovely server Tess. She knows exactly what she is talking and will only make the best recommendations! We learned so much about Albertan beef, wine pairing, modern steaks’ bull (male) and how the production and business of the meat worked! So fascinating to learn so much! She was gracious w her time w us even though it was super busy. My first Albertan steak and would come back again next time!

Also learned about salt! 3x of salt. My friend ended up gifting me Tess’s favorite salt!

We had Christmas lunch in this restaurant the other day, the salad recommended by the waiter was really good. But my NY strip steak wasn’t. I requested for my medium and got medium well to well done. It was not that tender, a little dry and a bit bitter because it was over-chard. I got roasted beets for my side but it was just okay, it was warm and does not have a lot of flavor. My friends ordered ribeye and was a lot better than mine, nice and tender. Their side, was mushroom was also better. We also ordered Seafood Pasta was just okay too. We think it lacks something. Overall, food was inconsistent and does not have a wow factor that I will go back too.

On the good side, service was really good. The waiter offered to change my steak but I cannot wait for another 30 so he got the salad and our coffee taken out of the bill. Gesture well appreciated.

Ambience was a bit loud for my liking or maybe I’m just getting old.

Beautiful restaurant. Intimate experience. Kenzie was wonderful sitting us and making sure we had water and whatnot. Peter was a gem, taking our order, checking in on us, and making sure we had everything we needed! Kirk was great too, thanks for stopping by and welcoming us to Modern. Thank you so much Stephen! We went to Modern Steak to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The experience was lovely from the moment we arrived until the very end. Tess, Julia, and Trevor provided very professional and friendly service, which truly enhanced our evening.

The beef tartare was succulent, and we shared the Tomahawk steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini—it was delicious! The restaurant was accommodating with substitutions, which we appreciated. Portions were generous. We brought home a slice of their famous carrot cake to enjoy later. Nice atmosphere, great dining experience! We will certainly return!
