This time I went for the ribeye duo and that was probably the best best option for quality and price point! The meat was perfectly cooked to medium rare, so tender and love the slightly charbroiled taste from the grilling. Still go for the same sides of mushrooms and broccolini cuz those are my favorite. And of course the beef tartare

Been here first time for the YYC experience in March 2025 and it has been the top option for any of our celebration so far for the whole year. Every time we just booked table without letting them know the occasion, but I heard they will prepare cards/flowers if you let them know in advance!
The most recent time was Boxing Day for their steak promo. We tried the AB wagyu platter, which was great value and quality for the price. We also tried their Japanese A5 Wagyu, which was way more expensive but its totally worth it. I usually asked for their broccolini and mushroom for the side as they are my favourite. Beef tartare was so fresh and tasty. Literally nothing we ever ordered disappointed us.
We never tried their wine/cocktails cuz we cant drink but their mocktails are amazing!
We love everything here from the food, service to the cozy atmosphere with all the ambient lighting. Recommended Blue Sky and Tropical Dream!
Also shoutout to Peter/Petar, he helped us twice with our dinner and he’s the best! He takes good care of us and makes sure we’re happy with everything!
Looking forward to celebrating my birthday + our anniversary in Feb and more during the year with them!

There was a piece of plastic in the seafood roll, which is why I deducted a point. However, our server Petar handled the situation quickly and professionally, he removed the item from our bill, comped our two drinks, gave us a lobster tail, and even treated us to a free dessert. We really appreciate it.
The rib eye from Warner, Alberta, came out perfect as it was cooked to a true medium to me (and not overcooked). Super tender and rich in flavour “as is” with the pre-seasoning. And the three flavours of salt provided was like sparkle on top.
The sides were in really good portion as Dan suggested. One free choice came with the rib eye order, and I selected the roasted beet. The warm beet pieces really brought out great flavour. The other side dish ordered was the steak fried rice which was also great, and again truly good in portion.
The above (one main + two sides) was shared as my wife wasn’t too hungry that evening.
As for desserts, the creme brulee was great with the layer of caramelized sugar crust burnt just right, and with an rich egg custard below. The baked alaska could be better.
This was definitely one of the better fine dining experiences I had recently. I would recommend Modern Stake for people visiting downtown Calgary like I was.
Also learned about salt! 3x of salt. My friend ended up gifting me Tess’s favorite salt!
On the good side, service was really good. The waiter offered to change my steak but I cannot wait for another 30 so he got the salad and our coffee taken out of the bill. Gesture well appreciated.
Ambience was a bit loud for my liking or maybe I’m just getting old.
The beef tartare was succulent, and we shared the Tomahawk steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini—it was delicious! The restaurant was accommodating with substitutions, which we appreciated. Portions were generous. We brought home a slice of their famous carrot cake to enjoy later. Nice atmosphere, great dining experience! We will certainly return!
