We came in without a reservation on Valentine’s Day just hoping to get a drink. We met the host at the door and he told us all bars were full so we heartbrokenly stood outside to pick the next spot. The host then came outside to find us and said actually we have some room upstairs but you will have to get a drink from one of the bars and head up there. We weren’t sure which bar or if we wanted the vibe upstairs so we stood at the door trying to decide and looking at the breath taking decor. One of the employees then came up to us and said he wanted to find us a table because he knew we really one. They gave us a cocktail table right at the front, we had THE BEST waitress she was a whole vibe and I watched the entire staff seamlessly pull off one of the biggest nights of the year with customer focus and hospitality. I was so impressed and thankful I had to stop and chat with the manager to let him know we had been all over Louisville and this was hands down the best experience even when we didn’t even have a reservation and they were slammed. They made us feel like they wanted us there, the staff was busy but you would never know it, and those extra steps for guest experience did not go unnoticed. Spend all your money on the delicious drinks, stellar food and to a staff who are really there to give you a flawless evening. Not to mention the views, the furniture and all the details are just incredible !! Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart ! Keep doing what you are doing !!!

This place is really neat! The atmosphere is laid back and super friendly. If you like bourbon and whiskey or want to learn more about it and do a tasting, it’s the perfect place to go! John is very knowledgeable from the history of whiskey and bourbon to the refined tastes you’ll experience! The pizzas are thin crust deliciousness, the chicken dip is amazing and if all the servers are like Morgan, you will feel welcome and valued! Even if you just stop in for a drink, you won’t regret it!

Absolutely awesome atmosphere and the service is great. Get ready for a fun time. The food was good but nothing had the wow factor like the decor and atmosphere, but that doesn’t mean bad. It’s hard for the food to compete with the restaurant. It was exactly what I wanted. Definitely recommend this place.

If I could move this restaurant back home to where I live I would most definitely do it! In town visiting made a reservation for dinner while in town, I will always recommend this restaurant to anyone, everything was above and beyond. The managers were very polite and had no problem to show us around. Our waitress was absolutely so sweet and very helpful on what to decide to eat, i honestly wish I could remember her name! I absolutely can’t wait to come back when we visit again!

What a cool place! The music is the best! So many bottles lining the walls. The staff is so friendly and helpful. We came for drinks and dessert. The confused catholic is so yummy but I had to say the puréed pear was a bit spicy. The Jesus loves chocolate is a tootsie lovers dream! The drinks were really good and is recommended any of them.

It’s really much more of a bar than it is a restaurant.
It’s in a restored church, so, of course the building is gorgeous. They take advantage of the high walls and have huge bourbon walls occupying them.
They have a red carpet going up to the main church doors, but you can’t enter through them, you have to go around to the side. Pity. That takes away from the whole experience.
There’s a very limited themed menu with accompanying cocktails. I had the Mary which is a chicken salad pesto sandwich. It was okay. My wife had the shrimp and grits which was amazing. The desserts are the highlight of the menu.

I really love this place but the service was agonizingly slow. It wasn’t super busy so I was surprised. We ended up having one drink and sat at the table for at least 45 minutes. We ended up leaving because of the wait.
BUT, give it a try, the church is amazing and the whiskey selection is unbelievable. Maybe we’ll stop in again sometime.

My family and I had a wonderful experience at The Last Refuge. The atmosphere of this place is amazing but the service is also fantastic. At the end of our meal the manager, Nathan, came by and asked how our meal was and if we would like a tour. We said yes and we do not regret saying yes. He gave us a personal tour of the restaurant, as well as a history lesson. We will remember this experience forever. Thank you Nathan and Sarge for a great experience. If you’re in Louisville – go cheek this place out! Reasonable prices, great atmosphere, nice people, cool history – the works!!

This bar/resteraunt is in a renovated church in the heart of the Nulu district. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. It is very busy, so reservations are recommended. Beyond the esthetics, I felt the food was middle of the road for the price. Real effort was there but the pizza was just okay. The drinks were great, both balanced and strong. Service was good but they were busy! The hostest was so sweet as they tried to sort out where our table would be. Our waitress had a few too many tables but she got our basic needs. Our drinks came out in a fairly timely matter given the volume they were pushing. Random but I did not find the bar height seating that comfortable. Overall, I would recommend going and checking it out for the drinks but I couldnt see myself regularly visiting.

The Last Refuge is one of a kind! You are immediately captivated when you walk in with such unique spaces. The main bar is a must. We enjoyed our experience so much , we went twice (once in the afternoon and again at night). Nate was extremely nice and gave us an opportunity to ring the bell at the top of the cathedral. Jerry was our bartender last night and she was one of the best bartenders we have had. She did a great job personalizing our cocktails to our taste profile. Would highly recommend going to Last Refuge and we will be back next time we are in Louisville.
