Reviews
friendly, Attentive, helpful. The food was really good delicious! Good Size portions. The milkshakes are so good! I was very happy and hungry I loved and enjoyed the Atmosphere music, with that Classic and Vintage style the diner has. Beautiful! I had a comfy spot seat all to myself. I would definitely come again.
Thank you Teresa
the apple pie milk shake is quite unique and a really nice treat . it’s sweet but the flavour isn’t too strong, with a good apple taste and very subtle cinnamon-iness that didn’t overpower it at all. the best part was that you could taste the remnants of the apple pie — chunks and slices of tart, softened apple, and thick, lumpy crumbles of the pie crust.
the lakeview clubhouse with double chicken was absolutely STACKED. it had many components that made it unique, like the thick, soft, toasted, slightly sweet challah bread, and the nicely-fried chicken coated in cornflakes, giving it an extra crisp. the first few bites were delicious, but honestly i found the chicken to be really dry in the end, and the THREE layers of bread (appreciated, but a bit much) made it just a bit too heavy. the juiciness of the tomato and mayo helped a bit, but it also made the chicken/bread soggy. the onion rings were super duper good though — really, really crispy and fresh, great with the mayo dip.
Maybe they’ve changed the kids menu recently but I was very disappointed with the pancakes. For $6 the serving, on what looked like a teacup saucer, was no more than 3 bites for both the 4 and 6y/o I was dining with.
We ended up ordering the adult pancakes on top, which they shared, for an additional $19, and that’s probably where we should have started. For $19 the adult pancake stack is a very generous stack of 6 pancakes, each more than 6” diameter, as well as whipped cream and maple syrup.
I ate the dry rub chicken club which was very good, particularly liked the freshly prepared chicken breast and the very fresh bread. A little small compared to other diners but you can’t argue it isn’t filling.
Atmosphere is 5/5 – this is a proper old school diner with mostly booth seating and period features
The staff were friendly and attentive, service was good overall. Only knocking off 1 star as perhaps the server could have played a role advising on how small the kids meals are.
Too expensive
The dedicated staff here truly make the experience. Even at unusual hours, they are consistently helpful and friendly. Our server, Sofia, was an absolute delight, her positive energy and attentiveness were a wonderful capstone to our late-night visit following a snowy, failed celestial observation. She exemplified the warmth that keeps customers returning.
The menu offers a satisfying selection of diner staples, from burgers and sandwiches to deliciously thick milkshakes and house-made pies. The food is reliable and hits the spot when little else is available.
On this visit, I opted for the Breakfast Option (8/10).
featuring sausage, eggs, home fries, and toast. The meal was generously sized, offering great value;
• Sausage: Cooked perfectly with a satisfying snap and a well-balanced, prominent sage flavour.
• Eggs: Moist and velvety, indicating they were prepared with care.
• Toast: A classic accompaniment.
My only minor, and ultimately forgivable, note was on the home fries, which were slightly dry. Given that our order was placed well before the standard breakfast rush, this small inconsistency is easily overlooked.
The Lakeview is more than just a diner; it’s a dependable and satisfying experience, providing great food with outstanding service around the clock. It truly was a saving grace after a long night out. While the home fries could use a touch more moisture, the overall quality, particularly of the sausage and eggs, and the exceptional staff like Sofia, solidify its status as a Toronto staple. Highly recommended for anyone seeking reliable, comforting food at any hour.
I had an incredible experience at The Lakeview! I ordered the Lakeview Burger with a side salad and it was honestly delicious—the burger was perfectly cooked and the salad was fresh and tasty.
The atmosphere here is iconic, but the service really pushed it over the top. Our waiter wasn’t just good; she was super cool, welcoming, and very attentive the entire time. It makes such a difference when the staff actually seems happy to be there.
The place is clean, the vibes are nostalgic, and the food is top-tier. Even though it’s a historic spot, it feels fresh and well-managed. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area. I’ll be back for sure!
