We have some very basic beliefs here at the Kitchen at the Imperial as to what kind of a restaurant we want to be. We believe the dining experience should be just that, an experience, where the atmosphere, service, and food all come together to make the entire dining moment one to enjoy and savor. We believe that casual fine dining should provide an approachable and unpretentious atmosphere in which guests can enjoy cuisine that uses the best available ingredients possible, made fresh daily, in a manner that lets the ingredients be the star. Our goal is to build an environment in which our guests are equally comfortable stopping in for a quick cocktail in the Tavern after a day on the boat, bringing the entire family in for a low key mea

Excellent handcut fries, which are harder and harder to find these days. We really enjoyed the shrimp salad, steak frites, and the steak tartare. Very attentive service at the bar – the plum fizz is delicious, as is their margarita. A bonus is they are one the few restaurants in downtown Chestertown that is open on Sunday and Monday.

We had brunch and dinner last Sunday. Only have pics of dinner. Atmosphere was cozy and friendly, food was excellent and drinks were even better! Seevice was wonderful! Even asked for one burger instead of the two on the menu, and the kitchen was ok with that. Would definitely recommend!

We had a fantastic wine pairing dinner at The Kitchen at the Imperial as part of Brampton 1860’s dinner package. The historic building is full of charm and set the stage for an excellent evening. Jillian took great care of us with attentive, knowledgeable service, and Chef Steve Quigg came out personally to share the stories behind each dish and how everything was sourced hyper-local, most within just a few miles.
The menu was creative and memorable from start to finish with beef tartare, burrata with fried green tomatoes, a sous vide flank steak with homemade fries, their award-winning crab cake, and rich desserts that paired perfectly with the wines. The passion for local food really shines through here.

The food was lackluster but the service was good. I went with my mom for lunch we ordered a Rye Manhattan and Old Fashioned, she liked her drink, I felt like mine tasted like watered down rye. We had the Brussels Sprouts which were cooked well but covered in a lot of aioli, which tasted like straight mayonnaise. We shared the caramelized onion blue cheese flat bread, she had a side salad and I had the crab soup. I was not particularly impressed with any of the food.

Tha food was awful! I ordered butternut squash risotto with grilled scallops. I got rice soup with scallops only cooked on one side. My husband’s grilled halibut could have fit into a custard cup! The coffee was a disappointment as well. It was luke warm. For $90.00 we should have gotten more. The entree does not include bread or salad. The server was wonderful! She was friendly and attentive. That is why we left a generous tip.

We stumbled upon this little gem of a restaurant while driving through Chestertown. We didn’t make reservations, but luckily a party of two never showed up and we ended up getting their table. That being said, I highly recommend making dinner reservations. The ingredients are locally sourced, which is a huge plus.
The staff were friendly and the food tasted great. It was a cute and quaint place. The freshly made brioche buns were amazing — definitely get that as your starter. A great place for a date night.

We were here on a Monday night – late. It’s important to note because you should expect anything at that time, but we had a delicious meal served by a very young, very sweet girl who was somewhat distracted by her coworkers who were also in the final countdown to their shift. The chef was on premises which was great. My husband declared the crab soup and the crab cake perfect. I had the pasta special which featured a hand crafted bolognese sauce and was so delicious. We agreed we would love to return here for another meal. It was that good. Highly recommend.

What a fantastic experience. Traveling to Chestertown for the first time & the environment crafted by the owner was warm and welcoming. The food was stellar, the hostess was incredibly attentive, and the kitchen are clearly having a blast back there. The chicken salad with a drizzle of pepper was clearly the highlight! Surprisingly, the burger was one of the best I have ever had, I 100% recommended if you’re passing through this beautiful town and are feeling a fancy dining experience.

Horrible! Owner mean and disrespectful, to employees snd patrons. We had a rehearsal dinner there and booked the back room and we had to sit on white plastic folding chairs. Embarrassing, uncomfortable and rude of them! Claimed they did not have enough chairs for guests. . There were 28 guests!!! We booked the room 6 months in advance. Food cold and service a mess… sad it put a huge damper on our evening because they made it so uncomfortable and tense! Do not waste your money there!
