The Kitchen is a great, retro dinner. The decor is dated but that is what gives it its charm. The one server who was working entire front of house was friendly, helpful, and efficient. The food was great. I’d definitely go back when I’m back in Owatonna. They take credit cards but not MasterCard.

Overall, it was pretty basic. The double cheeseburger was good but he fries were flavorless. The hot beef and mashed potatoes was very mediocre and the portion was small. Service took forever. We never got refills on our beverages. We ordered pie but after waiting 15 minutes just told them to forget it and got our bill. The back room was decorated nicely. We probably won’t come back.

“The Kitchen” is aptly named. In a way it harkens back to a time when a mainstreet cafe was a community gathering spot. You feel the connection to the community along with the service and food that’s just like you remember from an earlier time. See you there!

We ate breakfast on a weekday with our picky 5 year old. He loved it. It is a quiet, simple, hometown diner. You wouldn’t come here for the aesthetics but you would come here for a delicious breakfast at a great price! It was perfect and our food was made fresh and quick. I love their buttery pancakes with a little crisp on the edges! Yum!

We have gone several mornings now and continue to get excellent service…again if you want good service, food and prices this place is perfect. Yes, it’s a little outdated, but we found the history of the building to be pretty fascinating.

This place reminds of the cafes from from back in the early 70s when the owner started working there. The menu is simple, and the food is great, service is what one would expect of someone who started working there over 50 years ago. The story alone is worth a visit.
