Ordering is easy, it’s all done online, then you visit the shop to pick up.
Pizzas are always steamy and perfectly baked.
This is a holiday tradition for my family and I every Christmas season when we are in town.
The restaurant has seating outside, most times the tables and benches are covered in snow but it never stops us!
If you’re in the area, definitely stop by and check out this place, you won’t be disappointed!
We took a drive from southern Sullivan County to find a place with a cool vibe on a Sunday.
We found just that.
Arriving at Kaatskeller we were greeted at the front, whisked upstairs, greeted and seated nestled near the bar.
Kaitlyn arrived at our table and took our drink orders.
Appetizers we ordered were:
WOOD-FIRED FLAT BREAD & BUTTER 7
Served with local farm butter
&
SKILLET MEATBALLS 18
Hand rolled, local grass-finished beef. Slowly stewed
tomato. Basil, aged balsamic, ricotta
The drinks we enjoyed were:
PISTACHIO GOLDRUSII 17
Pistachio-infused bourbon, Catskill Provisions raw honey, lemon, crushed pistachio rim
&
PAID VACATION 17
Tequila Blanco, hickory smoked pineapple, habanero bitters, muddled cucumber, lime
The drinks were served promptly and the delicious appetizers followed minutes thereafter.
We no sooner enjoyed our appetizers when the pie ordered,
___________
WILD ONE 25
Wild Boar pepperoni, smoked mozzarella, onion, spicy
Harissa spiked San Marzano tomato. Smoked sea salt.
Pepper infused honey
___________
arrived just as quickly.
The pepper infused honey topped the pizza when drizzled really pulls the notes together well.
On the pie tin, there were no survivors. Absolutely delish.
Each one of the dishes complimented the other. The tastes blended together and were truly satisfying. Our pictures almost did justice to how savory the meal truly was.
Service was great. The food was tasty. We will definitely return to this establishment.
February 2024 update : still great vegan food and service. Small two story building for indoor eating.
We decided to stop in Livingston Manor on drive from NYC to upstate NY. The town is super cute and worth the stop. As for the Kaatskeller, I would probably give them another try, despite some other short comings of our experience.
Vibe:
What’s not to love about eating outdoors on a beautiful day! The outdoor space is super cool and has a great vibe. If I lived there, I would probably be hanging out there alot.
Service:
Hard to really judge service as you order and pay inside and then everything is brought to you. The staff was nice, but young and showed in their inexperience.
Food:
The food was the most disappointing part of the experience. We ordered two pizzas: Margherita / The High Life – local mozzarella, authentic DOP San Marzano tomato, Agrarian Feast micro basil, and EVOO and then Marinara Pizza / Customizer – DOP San Marzano tomatoes, oregano, garlic, EVOO and added mushrooms. Overall they use high quality ingredients and the pizzas had good flavors. The big issue, was the execution – the oven was too hot, causing the exterior of the pizza to burn and the interior of the pie to be raw. I also felt that the Margherita pizza was light on the micro basil.
I think The Kaatskeller has alot of potential and maybe we just hit it on a bad day. I would definitely try again despite some of the short comings.
The staff was attentive and a pitcher with cold water arrived as soon as we sat down. WIFI password provided.
I ordered the trout which came whole with head and tail, just how I like it. The presto was a bit overwhelming and didn’t offer much flavor to the fish. Overall it was good.
We also had a pizza that was very tasty and didn’t lack in ingredients.
The Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet were good but pricey at $15. With two drinks each, the tab was high.
If drinks were a tad cheaper I would give it a 5 star.
