Service was excellent!
Our waiter was lively and had great recommendations. He even bartended one of our drinks.

Our drinks ordered:
Cobbler’s Mule-simple and good.
Meet Me at Midnight, and Baby Giraffe-slightly sweet and fruity.
The Perfect Wife, always ordered by someone in the group-fan favorite.

The fries were delicious! And the cauliflower taco was probably my favorite out of the three I ordered.

The James:
There is a flight of stairs to get to the sitting area and bar, there has been space available each time we have visited. We have never been on game day though…

The James is not exactly family friendly, but also not not family friendly.

We have had our son (15) join us here for a late lunch early dinner. He devoured a pizza and wings. But I wouldn’t say it is a true family friendly location. Especially if you are one who usually allows your child to wonder.

The atmosphere is typically chill, a bit more lively at night. Always greeted when you open the door. Never had an issue with service or anything we have ordered.

Highly recommend visiting the James.

Excellent spinach dip. Great drinks. The Baby Pink Giraffe is tasty. And The James Old-fashioned is decadent with its large, single ice cube. If you don’t like the taste of meat, then don’t order the veggie burger. Maybe it’s the sauce? The French dip is good. All-together rather over-priced.

Great place to grab lunch or dinner. Located upstairs as you walk in the building. They offer a lovely patio to enjoy in the warmer months. The bartenders and wait staff were all so friendly! We had a great time!

I went to The James for the first time last night and am feeling a bit conflicted. The food was terrible but my server was a sweetheart.

I waited for about 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging me (the place was not busy) and just as I was about to leave, a guy in a flannel shirt just told me to sit wherever. So I did. A server eventually came over and I ordered a vodka soda and the Idaho Nachos. The description made them sound pretty mid, but I was in the mood for potatoes.

The food looked pretty good (as pictured) when it arrived. But the potatoes were room temperature, which is a bad sign for any type of loaded fries. And despite the toppings, the whole thing just tasted like a mountain of salt. No other flavors.

I took two bites and left it alone. It was very, very bad. My server came over, asked me if I wanted a box, and then gave me a knowing look when I said I did not want one. She comped the meal without even asking me. I think she knew exactly how bad this particular food option was.

My server was excellent, but I’ve seldom had worse food. And my well vodka soda was somehow $14. I would have been better off going to Burger King across the street.

The burgers were amazing and the sweet potato fries were spectacular. Unfortunately it was incredibly loud outside under the tented area, our server kind of forgot about us and we didn’t get water for a long time, and the food took a long time to come out. And that was understandable since there was a basketball game that night and a play. I would recommend this place but just realize it’s going to take longer on an event night.

Both of our sandwiches were delicious. The Ceasars salad was super yummy, and the fries were also good. Food overall 5 stars, but it took over 25 minutes to get 2 sandwiches. Service was just ok, but I was so disappointed with how long the food took. I had been really wanting to try this place, but it was not a great first impression. They have a sandwich shop downstairs. Upstairs has main dining and bar, but during lunch, you can order from the sandwich menu. Also, it was very loud in the dining area. Would not go if you are in a hurry.

We stopped in for a light dinner and had the Idaho nachos, which were amazing!
I also have the lavender drop, which was very good and a creme brulee cheesecake, which was so great especially with the strawberry they added to it.
The service was great and everyone was helpful and friendly

Manager quizzed me like I needed to answer special questions to be there. The fish over cooked to RUBBER. A tiny portion of coleslaw and a huge portion of french fries to over compensate the small amount of rubber fish. At 19.95 each I say DONT! The only reason there is 2 stars is for the really nice guy behind the counter.

Sat in the back, would be better in good weather on the balcony. Wedge salad had so much dressing on it that the lettuce was swimming! Husband’s dinner was pretty marginal. I would recommend sticking to the burgers, they looked good.

Stumbled across James Kitchen & Bar on Google Maps. I was looking for a place to hang out and have a bite to eat. I wanted a place within walking distance and close to where I was staying during my short visit to Boise.

Boy, I wasn’t disappointed at all! As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by warm and welcoming staff. The place has a really cool vibe and is very cozy. They have a nice collection of bourbons and whiskies as well as other spirits. I sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about whiskeys and cocktails.

I can say without a doubt that their nachos with pulled pork is KILLER! Other items on the menu also looked great and I’ll have to try the next time I’m in town.

I had a relaxing time and The James was a great place to wrap up my day.

I highly recommend The James Kitchen & Bar and will definitely visit again when I’m back in Boise.
