We searched for a 17.30 meal in the area across the Southbank and north of the river , it’s Saturday and those times seem to be reserved for theatre goers. Walking an extra 10 minutes we found this gem hidden away. They had room for 9 and an overflow room at the rear so keep that in mind if you have a suprise party . Upon entry a pleasant receptionist guides you down the stairs to some pleasent basement rooms cosy and inviting. The waiting staff immediately in attendance, we had booked but a few tables had to be rushed together to accommodate. The menu offered many dishes including Vegetarian even on the set menus which for London were well priced. Vegan! Well order some veg and no oat milk. We ordered a full mix of dishes , fish, lamb, paneer, chicken, rice and nan bread. All the food was of a high standard and good portions the meal was thoroughly enjoyed. A bottle of red wine was basic cheap but the Cobra beers were in huge bottles and ice cold. Coffee followed . The total bill for 9 with 3 fixed menus and thus 3 starters the rest were just mains and no deserts, 1 drink each. Came to £375! All in all though an enjoyable last minute feast was enjoyed with good friends and great service.

What a gem of a place. Working in the City, it can sometimes feel impossible to sit down and actually enjoy lunch. Most of the time it ends up being a quick grab-and-go from somewhere generic with a couple of chairs squeezed in. But The India is a completely different experience.

The setting alone is lovely, once you go downstairs, you’re seated in a beautiful stone-arched dining room that feels calm and a bit hidden away from the rush outside.

I tried their special lunch menu and it was both spicy and full of flavour. Salim was my waiter and made sure everything was perfect. He recommended what to order and absolutely got it right. I was also very grateful for the complimentary drink at the end, though I might keep quiet about that when explaining why I came back to the office in such a good mood

I’ll definitely be returning.

This place was a hidden gem my wife and I stumbled across. When you walk in it doesn’t look like much, but once you are guided to the basement where the seating area is, the restaurant transforms into a great ambient space. The food was delicious and all the staff were friendly and attentive. Our server was Salman. He answered all our questions about the menu and took good care of us. Overall we loved this restaurant and found a new place to come to everytime we visit London.

Went for dinner. Was very busy on Thursday night. Need to book. Food was ok. Portion size for for salmon tikka was three small bite size cubes of salmon for almost £9 served with salad as a filler on the dish. Mains sizzling lamb chops was ok, the others had lamb biryani and chicken jalfrazi with rice. It was very dark inside and very loud and busy, I saw quite a few people needing to use their phone light to read menu. The spoons in relish/chutney that was served were sticky to handle. The staff seemed friendly. Although when starter was served by one of the waiter who was not wearing the uniform, he just put the dishes on the table and walked away and not explain what they were. Was ok. Not particularly blown by service or dishes.

It was an amazing experience. Highly recommended if you want to experience Indian hospitality. The food was amazing, especially Kebab Anwari is a must-try; it just melts in your mouth. The biryani and dessert were great too, and again, the lamb in the biryani was mouth-watering. Special thanks to Shelim for making our experience special. His warm behavior and amazing hospitality skills made us feel at home. Because of the food and amazing hospitality, I would definitely come here more often.

Very nice little indian restaurant in a cellar room. Food was very delicious. Our waiter Salman was very kind and friendly – he and his colleagues gave us pretty nice advice and theory about indian food and spicyness. Definitely worth a visit. Didnt like the music, but thats super-subjective

Totally deserves 5 stars, food was delicious fresh, beautiful and with a decent price. The stuff was efficient friendly and nice. I took one star from the atmosphere even that the place has good music and very nice look since it’s underground, and a vent was missing.

We chose The India on a whim on a Friday night. Not only did they seat us without having a reservation, but they provided us with wonderful service. Salim took excellent care of us, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the Paneer dishes.

Food was great and so was the server! I had the chicken tikka biryani and I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was also very nice as it was in an old underground bunker. They were very accommodating and friendly. We also got a free drink!
