Really enjoyed the experience all around. Food was perfect and filling. Love the atmosphere and character of the place. Courteous wait staff. Good prices. We will be back when we are in Asheville.

Salt-of -the-Earth, locally owned, down-home breakfast & lunch diner. If you’re looking for uptown & trendy, look elsewhere. There are plenty of folks waiting for that table. If you like true Southern grub, this place might be for you. I generally recommend this restaurant for breakfast, which is served until 11 am, but I had lunch today, only because it was too late for the excellent breakfast menu. I was a little stumped as to what to order, as I don’t eat burgers, which occupy most of the lunch menu. I settled on the chicken cheese steak with a side of fried okra. I always appreciate a restaurant offering fried okra, so I was very pleased that they were willing to swap out the fries for my side of choice. The hoagie bun was a bit chewy, but otherwise the sandwich was flavorful and filling. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the place was clearly short staffed. I always feel bad for the staff in these circumstances and truly hope that they get more people doing, as this is a busy restaurant that is well-loved by the local community. It is clear that the rest supports the community as well, which I always appreciate.

The hungry bear cafe cured my terminal lung cancer. The sheer quality of the food is tear-jerking. I came in as a hungry bear and left a fat, tarp, full bear. I had been smoking for 43 years before contracting lung cancer. I went to hungry bear cafe a week ago exactly and shortly after was cured. I don’t know what witchcraft you and the bears have going on in there but it cured my cancer. I had 2 months tops and am now set to live a long life. I love you, hungry bear. Stay hungry folks.

Server was attentive and very friendly. Food came out quickly despite being on the busy side and the food was awesome. Didnt spend very much at all either. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good homestyle cooking.

You wait on the porch, when they have room they call you in for newbies like myself. The food is awesome and a great value. Seats maybe 40 but worth the wait

Hungry Bear Cafe does great with catering! I fed a group of 24 and we had great portions per person. The delivery was on time and the restaurant was easy to work with to complete my order. This was my second time using their services and will be back in the future.

Hungry Bear is an excellent Cafe with great food. I would highly recommend their lunch menu. The Ribeye steak sandwich and french fries was hot, huge, and delicious. Their all the way Hot Dog price matched a big chain and was excellent flavor.

If you are in Asheville and want true country cooking and just amazing food, this is it!! My wife got breakfast and it was perfect and I had the best burger I’ve ever had!! It is really small so not many seats, so if you have to wait it would be worth it!!

This quaint place is surely a local spot. They have a very simple and straightforward menu. Cheap eats that is better than fast food. My husband enjoyed the burger and I had the country fried steak. Skip the fries and select the other sides if you can.

If you’re in to comfort food, this is the place to stop. A true slice of diner Americano. The service was wonderful, and the server was polite. If you’re hungry like a bear, you will leave like a full one. Cheers!!
