Hello, I’m writing this review because I’m still shaken by how unkind the older woman behind the desk was during my visit.
When I first arrived, I was warmly greeted by a middle-aged woman who was very helpful in guiding me to choose a wine; something I truly appreciated as I’m not very knowledgeable in that area. Unfortunately, my positive experience quickly turned sour when I reached the front desk to pay.
I overheard the older woman at the register kindly offer the gentleman in front of me gift wrapping. When it was my turn, she didn’t offer it, so I politely asked if I could have my item wrapped, as I was bringing it to see family I haven’t seen in a long time over the holidays. Her reaction was startling; she gave me a look that made me feel like I’d asked for something outrageous, muttered something under her breath, and created an incredibly awkward atmosphere.
To make matters worse, when I asked for my receipt after paying, she responded with the same coldness and unprofessional attitude.
I don’t know what her issue with me was, but I’ve never felt so unwelcome in a small business. It’s disappointing because I came in genuinely wanting to support a local store. Sadly, after that experience, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere; there are plenty of other liquor stores nearby where customer service is more consistent and respectful.

The woman behind the counter was downright RUDE, demanding that I place my bag where she could see it. On, no, she did not verbally DEMAND it, but I got the gist, I’m not dumb when it comes to people mistreating me. Then, she wanted to make sure the bottle of wine I had picked up, would be visible to her. The impression that I got was, “you don’t look good enough for us, you look like a filthy thief, so let us treat you like scum”.
Well, I don’t exactly look like I’m on a date every day, sorry. If you treat people like they can’t pay, well, you will get the exact reaction you expected: WE DON’T WANT TO PAY TO BE INSULTED.
This place is a joke. The people who had founded this historical place in1888, would have been mortified by the behavior of the current staff.

This store offers hard-to-find beverages at prices you can’t beat. Some of the items are offered, which are impossible to find in other Chicago area stores. Being there is like visiting a museum

Woman in shop was very unfriendly. We asked some advice and she answered it is all organized per wine type not per country. Her tone of voice was like if we should have know better. Then I asked if I can bring the wine magazine and she looked away. Customer unfriendly.

I bought 10 bottles of a rare spirit from them through their website and had a fantastic experience: the communication was good and the item received was packed extremely well, all 10 bottles arrived safely and the quality of service, product, shipping and customer service is exceptional.
