Small, cozy restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg. Took our 3 kids there. We did the whole shabang; apps, drinks, meal and desserts. From the top, apps are filling and decent. Pretzel is enormous and takes up much needed tummy room for the entree. The Charcuterie board is a beautiful presentation but lacks a sophisticated flare. Entrees are where the magic happens. My table got duck, bison, crab cakes, hamburger and sea food pasta. The bison takes 1st place, duck for 2nd, crab cakes for 3rd, hamburger for 4th and seafood pasta to round things up. For the pasta, just too much penne. The bison and duck are lick your plate in public amazing. Kids got root beer float and 2 skillet cookie cakes, which were so yummy. Drinks are so creative and perfect for the seasons. Expensive. Be ready. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Everything was delicious we returned the next night for more. Duck, lamb chops, burger, alligator bites, and the drinks all leave you smiling and craving more. We set at the bar and the young lady was friendly attentive and knowledgeable.

Diners Beware!! Bad service, bad food.

We went to the Hound’s Tale a couple months ago and had some of the best food and service Williamsburg could offer. When we saw they had a new location, we were excited to try out the new spot. To celebrate my girlfriend’s new job, we decided to celebrate by going to the Hound’s Tale tonight. We entered the restaurant at 8:30, closing time on Google says 10pm, so we felt like we had plenty of time for a good meal. We could not believe how cool the inside looked. So very open with plenty of knick knacks and chic decor. Lots of potential!

Unfortunately, that’s where the good ends. After walking in, there was no host(ess) to greet/seat and there was nothing obvious saying we should seat ourselves. After standing around like fools for a couple minutes, a hostess came by and sat us at the high stools. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but a couple other families were there eating as well. It was probably 10min before a server came to take our drink order. We got our drinks and placed our dinner order. Dinner took a little while to cook, but we weren’t in a rush. When we received our food, things looked good, but our server seemed very uninterested and unattentative. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, I had mediocre expectations since they are more of a pub food spot, but since I had the Fish and Chips my last time there (which were amazing) I figured I’d try something new. The rice was almost raw! Al dente rice? Not good. And the chicken was very gristly and a bit slimy. The naan was hard. I quickly lost my appetite. My girlfriend had the Stuffed Chicken Breast, the chicken was dry and overcooked and she only got one sundried tomato. Disappointing. My cousin had the Fish and Chips. The fish was overbreaded and the fries salty and floppy. Our server never came to ask us how our food was (probably a good thing bc it was awful) and I had to ask for refills. We got refills 5min after asking. Then we got our checks and left. I definitely tipped more than they deserved.

Overall, a very disappointing experience compared to the last time. I do not know what changed, maybe the cook? Management? Employees? Do better.

We will not be back.

This was me and my husband’s first time in. We sat at the bar. Food and atmosphere were great. The female bartender (didn’t catch her name bc she didn’t give it) seemed very unhappy and not friendly at all. No eye contact, she was mumbling, not smiling, and just all around grumpy as if she was forced to work someone else’s shift or something. If we return, we will avoid the bar.

We made a reservation for four at 5:30 for a booth or table near the wall. ( when making the reservation we specifically asked not to be seated in the middle of the room)
We arrived at 5:25 and were to a taken a table in the middle of the room. There was a booth available so we asked for that booth. The rep took us to that table and then a server said we could not sit there because the server had too many tables. (Almost every table was full).
So the rep took us to a table in the opposite corner but that table did not have enough chairs so we waited for them to find extra chair.
A few minutes after we were seated, a party of four was seated at the booth we requested. They were served drinks immediately.
We waited 10 minutes before receiving water.
Our server brought popcorn four times.
We ordered drinks – received drinks at 6:05- 35 minutes after being seated.
The party in the booth ordered their second round of drinks as we placed our food orders.
At 6:30 we asked for more popcorn ( did not receive it) as the party in the booth received their food orders.
We ordered more drinks.- two drinks arrived 15 minutes later at 6:45. The third drink did not arrive.
At 7:03 we spoke with the manager Adam who was very passive and unresponsive as expressed our complete dismay! Adam said they were busy and, very politely, I said “ yes you are but we made a reservation, we’ve been moved around the restaurant, we were not seated at the booth we reserved and then again requested and we were not served for an hour and a half! “
This is unacceptable in any restaurant.
Our food arrived at 7:05.
Adam offered a free dessert but our server said they were out of three of the desserts listed.
We then asked for Irish coffees but he said they could not offer those.
He subtracted about $12.00 from our bill.

The food was what would be expected in a tourist restaurant serving large numbers of people not a high quality restaurant. The French fries were limp and soggy and the meatloaf was substandard – quantity over quality. The steak was ok.
We had very high hopes for the success of this local restaurant in their new location in New Town and planned to be regulars .
The decor and artwork is very special and creates a nice atmosphere.

After the discount and before the tip, our bill was $160.00
Very sadly, after this experience, we are not inclined to return.

Our first visit to this gem. It was my son’s anniversary. Our server Margarita was awesome. I had the grilled romaine salad and charred Brussels sprouts. My DIL had the flank steak, and my son had the lobster ravioli. The reese’s cookie skillet was a delicious ending!

Stopped in for dinner with the wife, no reservation. Not busy but was a bitterly cold night so not many people out for dinner. Great service. Great atmosphere. Very good food. Irish coffee hit the spot. I’ll be back.

Had dinner there, went around 6:30pm, was able to get seated without waiting.

Nice atmosphere, and what seemed like a good selection of drinks and food. However several things made it not enjoyable.

The front door opens directly into the main room of the restaurant so in the winter, when it opens and you are seated anywhere within about 15’ you get blasted with cold air. This kept going on all evening…very distracting.

While the menu looks good initially, it comes down to basically being a fancy college bar type menu. For example we ordered an appetizer of fries with gravy and cheese, and got a gigantic platter of fries,if we had eaten it all would not have needed any dinner because it was so large….definitely not a normal “appetizer” size. Then with one of our meals, another gigantic helping of fries with basically no vegetables. Another meal was the “shrimp and grits with scallops”, and while the scallops and shrimp were very good, there was so much butter in the dish the grits were literally swimming in it. We poured off a ton of the butter but the grits were so saturated with it we could not eat any of them…nasty!

Another disappointment was our waiter, very nice but after taking our initial order, we had to flag him down each time we needed something or wanted our check…he did not check back at all.

Lastly was the extreme high price. We spend over $50 per person with only 1 drink (beer) each. While we got enough French fries to feed a small army, we were disappointed in the quality of the food.

Would I go there again…no
Would I recommend…no

Another highly recommended spot in Williamsburg! I was happily surprised with the amount of options you have at the Hound’s tale, and we ordered the bison hanging tenderloin and the 16oz cowboy ribeye. The ribeye was tender and juicy, but had a bit more of a salt crust than I like. The bison hanging tenderloin was the star of the show. The Demi glaze melted with the meat creating a nice balance in flavor.

We had an awful experience here. The drinks were bad. They overpoured, and they overused the bitters in every drink we ordered. The food was just terrible. Especially the fish and chips. The fish was literally dripping in grease and fried so dark, it looked burnt. It was just inedible. They were laying on a bed of cold fries that were over cooked just as dark as the fish. Shame on whoever sent that dish out. Even when the staff took the dish off of our ticket, it was not apologetic, but “we’re sorry it wasn’t to your liking”. The manager didn’t even come over to the table.
We will not be back.
