Great find!! Live acoustic music of classics in a local outdoor/ indoor restaurant. Fun old artifacts. Superb local beer with slow cooked barbecue. Outstanding ribs, pork’s and brisket. Okra, cole slaw and curry ranch sauce brought southwest flavors to life. Perfect stop on art filled town of Madrid for lunch or dinner

We dined outside, where you order and pay at the counter and your food is brought to the table. There is indoor dining, but I didn’t go in there. The outdoor area is next to main street, but the day I visited was not busy, so it wasn’t noisy. The food was good, with probably the best side order of fruit we received anywhere in the US at any price point. Red grapes, blueberries, strawberries and several slices of orange, all beautifully fresh. A good place for casual dining while watching the world go by.

I just checked Guy Fieri’s website on the Food Network to see if he’s featured this place. Negative. Guy NEEDS to introduce this place on Triple D.
The Hollar is rather off the beaten path and it almost looks like a food truck or dive that built a dining room in the back of it. I’m so glad me and my husband got curious and checked Yelp to give us the green light. It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside (paper plates were the sacrifice of the experience).
I got the warm goat cheese salad, which blew me away. How does the chef make those dollops of goat cheese all crispy? The added grilled chicken, grapes and seasonings were sublime. I would drive miles to have that salad again. My husband loved his buffalo strips lunch special and also said it was uniquely fantastic. This dive is wonderfully dog friendly too, with its own “howler menu” to feed Fido or Spot.
Clearly, this is one very talented chef, and we can’t wait to return for new surprises.

Delicious food – Vegetarian menu as well! Slightly overpriced, but I got tangled up in the hills and wanted to eat NOW! Too hungry to take pic of meal – The Hollar sandwich on pretzel bun and fries. Cooked perfectly (medium)! Appetizer – fried green tomatoes (pic included) – recommended by a regular. Food was 5 stars!! Service by waiters was 3 – however I believe the owner was also working and HE saved the overall experience for me. He was lovely and made my experience very enjoyable. Would recommend to anyone passing through the area. Bonus – landscape is breathtaking!

a funky place with fun staff and delicious fare in this really unique little town.

looks a bit janky and was empty when we arrived but i just loved the vibe.

we started with fried okra and then i had fried green tomatoes with grits and chili sauce and my companion had green tomatoes caprese.

both dishes were amazing.

place is very dog friendly, even has a dog menu. the local dogs know it too, one came over and hung out (:

The Hollar’ll Git Yer Dollar! *6/10*
Great Atmosphere & Outdoor Pub Vibe
Great seating, service and location

Let’s break it down…

Great atmosphere…especially in the summer.
There is live music across the way, bbq lingers in the air…good beer and friendly service

Food is average but I admire their flair. Burgers Fries battered and always great
My burger had cream cheese in it which was a little strange but it held the green chili in the bun

If you’re passing through…”Definitely Go” and support these guys

Found an unusually quiet time here for my favorite item on the menu – Seared Ahi Tuna. I get the “starter” that is a full meal for me.
Plus they are dog friendly and my dog met a new friend!

Came back again 2 weeks later for the Hollar Veggie Cheeseburger on a Gluten Free Bun. Delicious!!!

I have eaten here twice and have been very please both times. I have had the burger, fried okra, and fish and chips. Everything was quality and tasted great. They also have a great beer selection. For a place in small town Madrid, I am very impressed.
