My only thing was the cake! It was $12 for a slice and a big chunk of it was missing, bummed me out. The cake was delicious though.
The winter season is a challenge to find a good new place to eat on a Friday night. We had friends in town visiting from Santa Barbara. I wanted to eat healthy and have a great atmosphere. The four of us had a phenomenal time. Great service great food and can’t wait to come back. Put this place at the top of your list. Great parking.
Upon arrival we gave the server and manager multiple heads up that we had to leave at a certain time, which was 1.5 hours after our arrival and were told not to worry every time we expressed our concerns about not having any food in front of us (we did not receive our drinks for over 30 minutes and our one appetizer for over 60 minutes) of which that manager then had the audacity to be annoyed when we asserted that we didn’t expect to get charged for the disaster of what what supposed to be a celebratory dining out experience.
In fact I’m writing this review as the manager named Amber had the nerve to not even apologize on behalf of her staff and then insist that the owner “will have her back” after how terrible of a taste this has left in her customers’ mouths than an ill experienced team manager who lacks the ability to be accountable for the terrible experience she was responsible for at least trying to make better.
If you’re the owner of this establishment, feel free to reach out to me about this evening and I’d be more than happy to give you a truthful account of the matter as I can I assure you no rudeness occurred until I was said to have been rude when explaining to her how this was unacceptable – and if I got anything wrong I’d be happy to change my review; but I truly don’t believe that should be the case in this matter.
Comfortable, floor-plan accommodations catering to couples and small-parties. Couples and small-parties, interested in a true health-fare dining experience. The Herb Box provides guests with luxurious, +++ fare that supports dietary restrictions. Supports dietary restrictions; served, with creative flare. Presentation of fare, intended to convey creative utilization of ingredients. Utilization of ingredients, designed to impress bohemian/health-fare demographic.
The Herb Box offers guests a standardized, Vegetarian/Pescatarian based menu-list. The standardized-list, designed to provide +++ selections to choose from. Filets, sushi rolls, sprouts and +++ salad items. Going on, to offer guests access to a full, dessert case. Full, dessert case; containing flourless cakes, cupcakes, brownies & more! The Herb Box, catering flawlessly to residents and visitors of North Scottsdale.
THAT being said… The service was awful. The restaurant was half full and of those half tables, about half of those were people actively eating versus people chatting or letting their kids play in the area (by the way, excellent outdoor seating with a small lawn area for kids to run around in). Yet somehow it took 10 minutes to even be acknowledged for a seat. 10 minutes to be asked for drink order, over 30 minutes for drinks and 1 appetizer. Over 10 minutes to get someone’s eye to ask for a cheque, and we never got the cheque, we finally had to go up and say “We want to pay. Can we just pay at the bar?” Of the 5 waiters we saw and 2 hosts, nobody circulated or checked on guests and nobody scanned the restaurant to see if anyone was trying to flag them down. Both of us at the table commented how difficult it was to get the staff to do anything.
For example: there was suddenly a gust of wind and one of the tables that had an umbrella fell over. The parents had just gone to collect their kids from the play area next to them and so all their stuff fell over. Glass broke, drinks everywhere, and their phones in the broken glass.
Not one employee came over. It was only when *guests* started helping the couple pick their stuff out of the glass that they sent over the busboy.
Honestly, if the food wasn’t so good and the other location so far from me, I wouldn’t be back. Regardless, I’ll give them another shot but my one recommendation is someone should be training your staff!
