We visited Helen on a Sunday via a tour group that left from Atlanta. Helen was the last stop on the tour. We had about 2.5 hours to dine and shop. We immediately beelined to The Heidelberg thinking it might be busy but we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t busy at all. We were seated immediately, with our table looking out the window just above their sign so we had nice views of people watching. We ordered sausage, sauerkraut, and potato cakes. I had a house red wine and my date has a beer. The food was really good! And the prices, I was surprised at how low the final bill was. Service was really great but there was no one else in the dining room with us until we we’re half way through our meal. Bathrooms were clean. Definitely check it out.

This location was upstairs, and I don’t think there was an elevator. The decor was rather generic, dirty (steps), in need of updating. Our server was very attentive. Our food received mixed reviews. The Heidelberger was nothing special, just Swiss cheese on an overcooked hamburger with chips (or fries). The Reuben was tasty with the German potato salad ordered instead of chips. I was hoping for an overall better experience with the German food, especially since having lived there.

We visited at 3 pm on a Thursday, and there was a line out the door and down the steps. On a hot summer’s day, it was about a zillion degrees in the narrow stairwell. The people in front of us told us that it was first come, first serve, but we saw several large groups of people leave the restaurant without any movement in the line. When the line finally shifted, we stood inside to wait in the A/C and were told, quite rudely, that we needed to “go ahead and go right back outside.”

The staff was friendly; however the food was not all that great. It lacked seasoning and my friend’s food was a little undercooked. The only thing we enjoyed was the pretzel. Also, my friend saw something at the bottom of her drink; but our server was kind to comp the drink. Staff members were nice; but I would not come back for the food.

Great place for authentic German food. The taste of the food took me back to eating at my Oma’s house. The spaetzle is delicious and buttery, the sausages are very authentic, and the red cabbage made me smile. If you want to be transported to Germany through food, this is the place to go. It us a popular spot on the main street, so you may have to wait a bit for a table, but it is worth it. The only way to the restaurant is stairs, so if you have a stroller or bad knees be prepared. I got the two sausages plus a smoked pork chop. The pork chop had awesome flavor. My husband got the Reuben which was packed with meat. I will definitely go back here when I return to Helen.

The food was delicious. We had pork chops with some delicious side name of which I can’t pronounce and kielbasa was very delicious too. We had a great time sitting on the balcony listening to the music and enjoying our conversation. Lots of beer choices here.

I’ve tried a couple German restaurants in Helen, and The Heidelberg is definitely one of the best, when it comes to the food.

Regrettably, I haven’t had the opportunity to experience German-style dishes yet. The exterior view of the restaurant is undoubtedly a popular hotspot. If you’re inclined to order a German beer and relish live music, this place is bound to capture your affection.

My daughter and I spent a night in Helen and we ate our first lunch here. It was located right in the heart of the main street of Helen and had a great atmosphere. There were charming paintings on the wall and my daughter loved listening to the German pop music they played while we ate. My daughter had the Schnitzel sandwich and I had the cheeseburger. Both were large portions and delicious. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Overall, a cool dining experience.

Food was great. I put a layer of beer cheese on the cordon bleu to make it better. Paying the bill was extremely odd. Waitress had us fill out tip info before running our cards. They then tack on a 4% credit card service charge to that total. Guessing they get stiffed a lot or the owners are cheap. They could just increase prices by 4%. ♂️ Mustard bottle caps were in dire need of cleaning.
