We enjoyed a catered dinner here for a retirement party. The taco/salmon appetizer was delicious. The chicken on a stick was blah. The bruschetta was excellent. Our Caesar salad was small but good. My wife got the salmon and I got the Crab cakes. My first bite had some shell in it but after that it was fine. We both enjoyed our dinners and finished it off with key lime pie, which was pretty good.

Nice decor, and nice atmosphere. Our waiter took forever to bring food, drinks, and everything else . The dinner was okay, but the appetizers was good. After speaking with the wonderful manager who made the night all smiles was great. First impressions are always the last as I say. You ask if I would visit again sure but probably another location.

Quiet on a Wednesday. Sat at a corner of the bar with companion. Oysters on 1/2 shell where fantastic and prepped perfectly. She crab soup perfect with a little heap of shredded crab on top. Warm but not to the burn-your- mouth level. The large arugula salad with goat cheese and other goodies. Service was most pleasant and quick. Noise level enjoyable (not blasting or too loud). Can’t wait to go back!

To set the stage, we went to the restaurant during Restaurant Week. So the menu was limited, but their were a lot of choices. My date and I went to dinner around 630pm 7pm, though we had set a reservation ahead of time. When we arrived, the place was busy, and there did not seem to be a wait. When we told the hostess about our reservation, she immediately told us they were missing staff and to be patient. We decided to sit at the bar while we waited for our table. Immediately, we noticed that to talk in this restaurant required a significant increase in volume. Also, the bartender introduced herself and shared that they were short-handed. We proceed to wait for a chance to get a drink… but that never comes until we are sitting at our table. Waitress was pleasant but almost had a robotic pleasantness that was off-putting. The drinks we ordered were great. While we were talking, my date and I noticed that there were fruit flies buzzing around, indicating that perhaps we were closer to the kitchen. Looking above our table, the wall decorations were covered in dust. Watching the staff work, they seemed fatigued and highly stressed. The food was good, but not wow material. All in all, we are glad we at least knew that part of the money goes to charity. Sadly, I will not be going back to try it again, however. Also, my date made the reservation and mentioned in it that it was our anniversary, but nothing was done or even said to congratulate us. If you are not going to do anything, then why ask on the reservation? Still, perhaps if you visit on a non restaurant week, the experience could be better.

Went there for the first time yesterday. Happy hour had $4 wine, great price, small pour. Started out with the crab dip and was totally disappointed neither the wife nor I cared for it. Next was the she crab soup which was just a little bit better than the crab dip, it had plenty of crab meat but the meat had no crab taste. Wife ordered the blackened maui maui which was delicious. I ordered the grilled shrimp and scallops which also was delicious. The only problem I had was you only received 3 shrimp and 3 scallops for $30. Six dollars a piece is very high.

Met here with my parents and young children to grab a bite to eat. We made the reservation on OpenTable. When I got there the table was ready and our server came over quickly. She was able to make suggestions on the menu in accordance to questions we asked. The food came out quickly and was very good. I looked around the room to find the waitress to order a plate to go. The manager came over and took my order quickly. That was a plus ! Overall a good experience and the food was great. Oh and the Vanilla Bean crème brûlée was my favorite dessert.

What an amazing establishment! I celebrated my 54th birthday at the hard shell and let me tell you…it was amazing. The welcoming staff, the atmosphere and the food. Our waiter Thomas was the coolest, very attentive and extremely pleasant. I was a able to meet the manager and guess what… the positive vibes were radiating. I will be back!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

During fall and winter months, they serve really fresh raw oysters on half shell. And the prices are especially reasonable during happy hour. They do seafood and steak well. My go-to place for seafood in Richmond.

Hardshell has a great Happy Hour. I visited there in 2012 for the first time and still enjoy meeting with my friends there on a regular basis. Food and service are great. The servers and bartenders are super friendly. This is definitely a spot you should check out.

The food was excellent. The lobster was cooked perfectly. Asparagus had a flavor that I never tasted before. Caesar salad was fresh all of the vegetables we’re crisp and delicious. The stakes were delicious also the crab meat was very good. The waiter and waitress never mindful of all the needs of the customers. They could be watchful eye on us all the time. We use a private room which was perfect on the size crowd that we had. Decoration on the table were perfect for the occasion. I highly recommend this restaurant for your dining experience.
