We stopped in for a late lunch. There was one other table there. Baked mushrooms were excellent. French onion soup was okay. French dip sandwich was the winner of the day. Pork belly Bahn Mi was good but would have benefited from a bit of moisture in the sandwich (a spoonful of my wife’s au jus helped immensely). Was a bit disappointed that the french fries didn’t come out screaming hot. Service was okay.

Such good food and atmosphere! Right on the corner with big windows great for people watching. The salmon caesar salad was so yummy along with the mussels, sauce amazing! Friends enjoyed their meals as well as pictured. Drinks were well. Definitely on my list for when I’m back in town!

Overall a fantastic place to eat in Burlington, I had the gryphon burger and the vineyard chowder. First off let me say that the vineyard chowder (a chunky seafood chowder) was the best I ever had. Not too heavy and LOADED with clam, scallops, and crab. Excellent. Next the burger was also great, cooked right and the pickled onions really added to it.

Drinks and appetizers are excellent. Service is excellent. One entree was so overspiced – it was inedible. The entree replacing it was very bland, but at least palatable. The desert was average. A decent experience, but wouldn’t go out of my way to go back again. Especially considering the prices…

We were in Burlington for a weekend stay, and decided to try The Gryphon for dinner. Booking a reservation online was easy and fast. The restaurant is centrally located in downtown Burlington, in a beautiful 19th century building. Upon arrival, we were quickly shown our seats, and ordered our drinks. The signature cocktail menu here, like the dinner menu, is small but mighty, full of great choices. She had a virgin lavender lemonade and the chicken Caesar salad, I had the village +33 and a French dip. Both our drinks and meals were wonderful and highly recommended. After dinner we split a slice of New York style cheesecake, which was also excellent. Dinner came to about $100 for the two of us, tip included, but I was not upset.

Wonderful seafood chowder. Huge portions. Started with vineyard chowder, which was stellar. Then had the duck quesadilla and sweet potato nachos. The duck quesadilla was great, and the nachos were interesting (I am too used to corn chips, so found the texture odd) and different (not in a bad way, just not in a nachos way). For mains we had the Gryphon Burger and the Petit Fillet (both were good, but brussel sprouts should never be the chef’s choice vegetables). Finally ended with sundaes which were fine but nothing special.

Wonderful restaurant. We sat at the bar since we didn’t have a reservation, and I was able to order off menu since I was really craving a black and blue salad and they had everything they needed for it. The bar tender was lovely, and the drinks were incredible.

This place should be busier than it is. On the second most visible corner in Burlington, a charming building, plenty of parking within a block unless there is some big event at the Flynn, and every time we come here we are impressed and tell ourselves to go more often.
