Our tailgate before a Simpson College game was set here. And even though we were the ‘away team’ they were very friendly and hospitable. It was a perfect place for our group to meet before the game. They ran out of some alcohol but went and got more very quickly. It’s a really cool Irish theme pub. It’s also in a really good location and there’s some cute stores in the area. They have TVs so it’s also a good place to watch a game. I would recommend. We were very pleased.

Since Bob took over – we have never had a bad experience. He is PASSIONATE about good food. He skips the frozen bar food and spends HOURS every day getting in the kitchen to prep all of the fresh veggies, meat, and other items. Sauces are made from scratch! With fresh herbs.
I highly recommend Sunday brunch as well! Holy smokes. We brought family and each got something different- everyone loved their food.
Tonight we had a burger and fish and chips + a side salad. That fresh ranch .
I didn’t get a photo of the dessert but you will love that too!

Great place to check out! The owner and staff were so nice and we had a great time!!! Would recommend to anyone! Food & beers were excellent— great selection of both. Scotch eggs were one of the unique menu items we tried and they were amazing! Next time we are in the area we are definitely coming back in!

Warm, friendly and inciting atmosphere. Food was great! Highly recommend the calamari and bread pudding, best I’ve ever had! We had 4 generations there and everyone had something different, it was all delicious. Great beer selection. Great service! We will be back!!

This time I placed an order to go mid-afternoon, was fast, easy, and delicious. Wish I could have stayed to have some irish beer but I was on a time constraint. Will always try to visit this place when I am in town! I ordered 2 scotch eggs.

What a delightful experience we had at this local eatery. Called our order in as the kitchen was soon closing which got food into our tummies quick. The surf and turf and chicken Marsala were our choices. I highly recommend switching the fries for the side salad, super delicious. A good selection of brews to boot makes this a great place to enjoy a meal and a brew. Super friendly staff as well. Sadly the Monstrosity is the new view across the street. Not their fault.

Years later the Groggy Dog is still a local gem. The new menu hits the spot and has awesome vegetarian options which are much appreciated. Bangers and mash!

What a great place! Awesome selection of beers, super tasty food, and genuine service. Scotch egg was a great way to start and the ribeye sandwich was cooked to perfection. All at great prices and right on the sqaure. Great win for Indianola!

My family and I ate there Dec. 12, 2025. I had to wait until I wasn’t as aggitated to write this. The one waitress, in lots of makeup, who worked there could use a lesson in tact and class, among other virtues. Everything was fine until she decided to ask if I was my husband’s mother! He is older than me. I was so humiliated and confused as no one has ever said something like that to me, especially in front of family and around 6 other tables who were close by and very loudly. Instead of getting the message based on our reactions and me sputtering out that he is my husband and he’s older than me, she comes back and continues this conversation by insinuating I look old (Im 39, hes 40, almost 41), hitting on my husband in front of me and saying things like “Are you Hispanic?” To him and then telling him how young his face looks, etc. Im honestly thinking I need to do more bc I was so offended by the race comments and her saying everything she did to us. What would give her the right to think it was OK to insult paying customers?
Im letting you know as a first step in this process. I recorded the part where she came back to the table and talked about all the Hispanic stuff bc my family was already mortified by what she said. I wish I could get back the 70$ we spent and the nightmare interaction, but I know that isn’t possible. Maybe she understood when my husband decided not to leave her a tip bc he was very angry. Im unsure if you insult and offend everyone as you bring them food, but it was honestly the most embarrassing thing to happen to my family in a long time.

Was there today with my 21 year old son. We’re both big men. Despite being hardy eaters, we were given so much food that we almost couldn’t get up to leave! And it was all delicious! The only flaw I could find were that the portions were so massive I took them as a personal challenge.
The fish and chips had a glorious breading, well seasoned, and we’re cooked to perfection. The fries were golden brown and crisp. The cheese sticks were ENOURMOUS, homemade with seasoned breading, and gourmet quality! Normally a meal of this quality would be double the price and a third the size!

Born in Scotland, live in Indianola. Can confirm the food and beer is brilliant! Service is fantastic and the owner is a top lad! Get the Shepards Pie or Bangers & Mash! The Guinness on draft is lovely as well!
