The Grind Coffee House is a super cute new cafe in Fairview Heights. I don’t know of anywhere else in Fairview to sit down and enjoy a full breakfast and drink besides St. Louis Bread Co.
The Grind offers a spot for locals to support their community and this small business. The neighborhood is lucky to have this space. It’s remote-work friendly, comfy-cozy, relaxing, and owned and operated by the sweetest mother-daughter duo- Denita and Stella.
My mom and I enjoyed egg sandwiches with bacon, mine on toast and hers on a bagel. I was surprised to receive such a large and rich sandwich for the price we paid. I’m often a bit disappointed by cafes’ breakfast item prices and left wanting more, this was not the case! I was barely able to finish the sandwich and drink during our visit, it was so filling.
Denita made me the creamiest hot chai latte. My mom tried it (she has never enjoyed chai) and really loved it! We will definitely be back.

They are now permanently closed.I have tried to go here twice and failed both times. It does look clean, nice and welcoming from the outside and my wife and I were hoping to get some fun coffee drinks from a local shop. The first fail was not knowing they were not open on Sundays, bummer but no big deal, I’ll come back next Saturday. This time I we stopped in and they had changed their sign Saturday was crossed out with a marker and they were closed. As we were walking away, another woman walked up to the door and back to her car disappointed as well. I will probably still stop at The Grind Coffee House another day since they do have early hours during the week, unless they change that as well….
Edit.. I stopped in and got a coffee and lemon pound cake. They were good. Everyone was friendly. I would like them to be open on weekends but to each there own.

Our first experience was great! The staff were friendly, patient, and professional. The pumpkin spice latte was perfect and they have THE BEST egg bites I’ve ever eaten hands down. My husband ordered the breakfast bowl which was also amazing. The place is very clean and cozy.

Wonderful food and such a sweet owner. She cooks, cleans, takes orders, and makes drinks. Don’t go if you don’t have a lot of time, as it can take her a bit to get to your order. Just enjoy the atmosphere, the food is well worth it!

UPDATE: for context I made an offer to the redo the menus at this restaurant for exchange for something easy like a giftcard. The only reason I asked for something in return is because as a professional, it is unfair to other professionals if I do work for free. I was a little harsh I will admit but I meant it in a humorous and friendly way. I did explain myself better in later messages but that was not heard.
After getting some extremely rude responses I decided to visit to see the place. After realizing it was a family owned passion project, I tempered my review and was as kind as I was honest. After my review the owner messaged me with this.
“Just to let you know that I’m filing a suit against you for the negative and false google review you placed…. Defining my character for personal reasons. You placed this review all because I would not let you do my menus. If you had approached me in a more civilized manner then I may have made an effort to work with you. You have 24 hours to remove it or I will have my lawyer start the process. You’re an evil person and a liar. I checked my security cameras to have the exact date and time you claimed to visit. I’ve done nothing to you to warrant your behavior towards me and I will not put up with your messiness. “
So don’t review this place negatively or you might get sued.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (with an original rating of 2 stars):
It’s alright. Two coffees took 20 minutes and it lacked flavor. The prices are really low, which is great for us, but between that and the huge menu, I can’t imagine the profit margins will be enough for this place to stay open for long, so enjoy it while you can.
I had an interaction with the owner online that was incredibly rude, but in person she was very kind, so take that as you will.

Stopped in with a couple co-workers over lunch for some coffee. It was our first time being there and it was empty, aside from the owner. She was very lovely. The inside is nice and spacious, calming music playing, clean. It was a nice place to sit and chat for a while. I got an iced white mocha and it was good. Prices are very reasonable. We’ll be back.
