For the price, you’d think that sauces would be made from scratch, not fast food packs. Maybe we just came on a bad day. Steak was basically raw when ordered medium. Mac n cheese tasted exactly like Kraft Mac, powder cheese. Appetisers were barely warm and the marinara sauce was cold (some may like it that way). Burgers look like premade patties from Sam’s club(not from Sam’s club though). Cheap food, high prices. Recession must be hitting hard.

This is an unusual place. It looks like it used to be quite fancy, but has slowly accepted compromise after compromise.
When I arrived large sections of the menu were unavailable. The staff seemed more suited for a dive bar than for serving lobster and prime rib. One of the bar tenders was dressed in skin-tight leggings, and the other was shouting over the bar guests to the booths to see if they wanted more shots or beers at random intervals.
There looks to be a lot of history to the building, but it is not well maintained and most of the charm seems to have been covered over. I’m not sure what the opposite of “lipstick on a pig” is, but this place is really suffering from it. It’s like painting over a marble building or something.
The food was of good quality, and the menu (were it to all be available) was compelling, if not a bit dated. The prices were on the low end for what you would expect from an upscale seafood place, though probably apropos to the current state of things and the relative pricing of the area.
With a change in management and a renovation this place could really be something special. As it stands, I think the other restaurants in the area are a better bang for the buck.

Our service was awesome and we had great food as well. Couldn’t have ask for anything else from the food or our service. We had been down to the Ribber in Portsmouth for our parents anniversary dinner and they had and 1 hour and 45 minute wait so we came back up North towards our home in Kingston and we seen the Grand Tavern and called to see if they had availability which they did and we went there and was more than happy with our meals and service. We were celebrating our parent’s anniversary and they had stayed down in the area on their wedding night as they were traveling to their honeymoon destination somewhere in the mountains. We didn’t set out to go to the Grand Tavern but we certainly will be coming back soon to enjoy some of their fresh seafood. Great food at great prices.

Very much enjoyed our meal. The food was very good, we really liked the decor and the history info in the menu and on the wall near our table. The people were very friendly. Our main issue was the service was a little slow. I think they needed some additional wait staff for a Friday night. They could also add some more deserts the cheese cake was good but the only option was 3 choices of topping.

We have heard a lot of good thing’s about this place, and when searching for a new place to go to for date night, decided to check it out. We went on a Saturday evening. It wasn’t very busy, we were able to walk right in and seat ourselves. We waited 20 mins to order and roughly 2 hours for our food to come to the table.. We had a babysitter and honestly didn’t mind the wait, we would have been happy to have a few drinks and enjoy each others company.. But.. Our waitress didn’t check on us at all while we waited, we had to get the attention from another waitress to order more drinks, check on the status of our order, and when it did come, she had to get our silverware, napkins, etc….
The food was… Ok. I understand that we went to Waverly Ohio for seafood.. Its not going to be the best, but some things just didn’t taste right. We had the New York Strip, the Surf in Turf, and oyster’s. After the long wait, our food wasn’t hot. The oysters were extremely salty, and we didn’t finish our steaks. They were not cooked the way we requested, cold and had a seasoning on them that was off putting. Our waitress gave us our food and we didn’t see her again. The nice waitress working the tables near ours, gave us our check. We didn’t complain, we were there a total of 3 hours and at that point we were ready to pay and get the heck out of there.

The Grand Restaurant & Tavern has fresh seafood from Chesapeake Bay brought in by the owner…. I love the Stuffed Shrimp and Flounder. I have never been disappointed with a dinner here. You may have a little wait because its popular but its worth it….

Food was excellent, better than I expected at the price point actually. My only criticism for the meal would be that while my steak was well seasoned and cooked to proper temp, it lacked any kind of sear and the fat along the edges was not rendered at all ( the only reason you didn’t get 5 stars) the girlfriend had the seafood platter and it was excellent. Last but not least the collection of reasonably priced local wines was quite tasty as well. We will definetly be back.

The service was quick and friendly . They have the best seafood we’ve ever had , and for what we got the price was good . We got the seafood platter , would recommend it to those who love seafood . We wasn’t sure we would like the clams but it was excellent. For those who posted it took a while to get their food , it is no longer than any other sit down Restaurant. Enjoy your company . Our food came out in a timely manner .

Literally the only place I ever want to go on date night anymore. EVERYTHING is excellent, everytime I go the food is consistent. I’m never disappointed! Spend your money here, best seafood in the state. Staff is wonderful, I always have the best experience.
