The bill was more expensive than a usual eat out for us but it included the service charge (and the service was good) a bottle of wine and oysters. I’d eat there again if back in Brighton.
Id definitely book to avoid disappointment as only a small eatery, beautifully decorated too.
Thank you Kez and Jake for an amazing evening. We couldn’t have asked for more on our dinner date.
Both of us being ex-hospitality, we find it hard to find places that have it all. Fortunately, The Gothic Crab is definitely one of them.
If you’re into seafood, especially seafood boils, this place should be on your list to visit.
The food was perfect, definitely exceeded my expectations (which were already high due to the reviews I had seen prior) and we will definitely be coming again soon to try more of their menu!! Cocktails were also lovely and fairly priced!
Looking forward to seeing the downstairs restaurant + jazz bar when finished
During the meal, Kiki refreshed our shell bowls multiple times which we both agreed was a really nice touch as they filled up quickly and we didn’t make a mess. I also liked how they provided bibs and gloves so we didn’t destroy our clothes.
We both really enjoyed our meal and will absolutely be back! Thank you so much. Highly recommend!
We could tell that this was not the usual service, and the table next to us seemed to have the time of their lives, so we didn’t want to kill the vibe by complaining but a few things happened that people may need to be wary of. Our boils arrived and we were ready to eat, but the shell dishes were forgotten, so the gentleman on front of house apologised and brought them about 5 minutes later. Then forgetting the dips that obviously make up half the excitement when eating a seafood boil. Another 5/10 minutes and we let the gentleman know – another apology and the dips were brought out. Our food was stone cold by this point. Still delicious but would have been better nice and hot. Then we found the boils were missing the promised sausages (another apology, another solution) and finally the bread that we ordered never turned up.
We did not complain at the end of our meal as this was our anniversary, and we didn’t want to ruin our own day much less the very kind host, however there was no further apology for our experience, and no initiative to offer to discount our meal when we had very clearly had a negative experience.
Despite this, I would absolutely come back, as the food was delicious even cold, and I’m sure this experience is not what the Gothic Crab usually aim to serve their guests.
