Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Had the swordfish special; which was okay but not the best. The twice backed potato is absolutely awesome. The worst thing was the smell of sewer sitting outside on the patio. Not sure what’s going on but there is a frequent burst of foul odor that spoils dinner. Also, I feel like this attracts the flys which made it hard to eat.

Overall a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. Food was good but not great. Hawaiian burger had overwhelming taste of pineapple, a thinner slice may have helped it be more balanced. Bacon on burger was undercooked and a little soggy. Burger patty itself was very good as well as the Korean BBQ sauce. Truffle fries were also a little strong in flavor for my taste. Seems like a nicer upscale option for the area.

The food was excellent but the bar drinks are way overpriced for Decatur. $12? This is not Chicago! If I have to walk through the alley to get to the restaurant because there’s nowhere else to park, it would be nice if the alley was clean and well lit.

My husband and I each just had the wedge salad with salmon and an iced tea.. My salad was more like soup. It had so much dressing, I could barely eat it. I don’t like to send food back so I did my best. Our bill was $55 before tip because the salad alone is $14 with no protein and there was an $8 up charge for the salmon. The salmon portion was tiny and the quality was mediocre. This was definitely not a $22 value salad. Although our service was excellent otherwise, the server seemed unconcerned with sharing with the chef the fact that the dressing was extremely excessive so they could avoid this with future customers. Obviously I could and should have ordered it on the side, but should not have to. I love dressing, but do not want so much that it becomes soup rather than salad. We won’t be ordering this dish here again.

This was our first time eating there and it was suggested to us by a friend. The food was excellent! The atmosphere was relaxing. The wait staff were very good! All the food was great but I highly recommend the Bruchetta and the pineapple upside-down cocktail!! Delicious!

Last night was our first visit to The Gin Mill, and it certainly will not be our last! We had a reservation for 5 PM, and when we arrived we we instantly shown to our table which was ready for us. Loree was our server, and she was top-notch! The bread came out first and it was soft, fresh and delicious with the homemade butter. We ordered the fireside chips and dip as an appetizer, and had to stop ourselves from devouring the whole appetizer before our meal. We were “that table,” and everyone in our party ordered the filet, just different sides. We each requested a different cook on our steaks, and they were all cooked perfectly to our liking. I had the house salad and twice-baked potato as my sides. The portions were extremely generous! You won’t go away hungry. Loree remained extremely attentive throughout our meal and was genuinely nice. Actually, the entire staff was friendly and they were working well as a team. You can tell they genuinely enjoyed their work. All in all The Gin Mill had everything we wanted in a dining experience – fun atmosphere, excellent service, and great food! We will be back.

We joined some old friends, and had a wonderful dinner. The food was great, we had the fried calamari, artichoke dip & chips for appetizers, and steak for dinner. Too full for dessert. Our server was amazing. She never forgot we were her guests. The atmosphere has a trendy barn vibe. We’ll be back soon!

Had dinner with a group on a Wednesday. It wasn’t too crowded. Service overall was very good. Started off on a high as they have Pilsner Urquell on tap from the Czech Republic which is a great beer and hard to find. Then had a Caesar salad which was only ok. The ribeye was in the good to very good range. Nice dinner out.
