We waited an hour for a table, but it was worth the wait! Service was wonderful, the food was delicious and my husband enjoyed his mimosa. I thought the coffee was quite good as well. Large menu with lots of options for many diets. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a yummy breakfast/brunch/lunch in Lake Tahoe.

The reviews are literally true. Perfect service. Great food. Cool atmosphere. The owner walks you to your table and remembers your name. Such a treasure. The menu says we make mimosas like we’re drinking them at home and they were NOT kidding. I felt like I was in this ladies kitchen and she was feeding us on our way home.

The food was incredible. What really stood out to my husband and I though was the service. Everyone around us knew the servers and were greeted with hugs. We were on our honeymoon and multiple servers came up to congratulate us and waited patiently for me to pull up pictures on my phone. I felt so welcomed there, even just for my short time. I can see why they have such a loyal following with hospitality like that. Thank you so much

Absolutely loved our experience at The Getaway Cafe! It’s hard to put into words just how much we enjoyed it. This cozy, local gem offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere paired with beautifully crafted dishes that hit the spot. We tried the Coconut French Toast, Benedict, and Chilaquiles — each one cooked to absolute perfection. The flavors were well-balanced, portions generous, and presentation thoughtful. On top of that, the staff was incredibly polite and attentive, making us feel right at home. This place truly stands out in South Lake Tahoe — highly recommended!

We ate there yesterday morning on our way back to SoCal and man I have to say everything was amazing including the service, but I have to say the hash browns were the best I’ve ever had in my 50 years of life (it’s was also my birthday yesterday). Man this was some good home food! And the prices were also great. Good job guys! See you again….

The food and service here were terrific. Friendly staff and very good comfort food for breakfast. And dogs are welcome, which is always nice to see.
The only warning is that the chorizo -IS- spicy. Yes, it’s supposed to be but it was unexpectedly so. Not a negative at all but just something to be aware of.

This is such a beautiful place. The location is beautiful and the staff are incredible. We didn’t have to wait long at all, maybe 10 minutes. The food was incredible and there are so many different options. Our waiter, Bailey, was very knowledgeable on what they offered and was very accommodating to our needs. I couldn’t recommend this place enough! I highly encourage stopping by if you’re in the area!

We 4 are sitting at our table after waiting 45 minutes. Hostess Nora told us 15 minutes. We watched numerous foursomes and twosomes come in and get seated as we waited outside. I guess I should not have said we saw them on Trip Advisor and that we drove 25 minutes to get there. I let you know about the food.
While the front of the house needs more honesty, the back of the house shines
The good was outstanding. Deluxe Eggs Benedict, cinnamon praline french toast, scrambled with chicken apple sausage. All were excellent.
Thus, good is great. Pretend to be local and don’t believe Nora’s wait estimate.

My family got in horrible traffic,and my kids wants to go to the toilet.The cafe being close but the staff still being in,we asked to go the toilet but they didn’t allow us to use the bathroom,they sad the owner didn’t allow to anyone use the bathroom,and the toilet was already cleaned!
I understand that after you closed you have to leave the cafe clean and go home, but people where is your humanity???My kids was almost crying in front of them,but they just sad cold world…I’m sorry…
Thanks to the next Mexican cafe,even we didn’t buy anything,they allowed as to use their bathroom!
We will never come back to The Gateway Cafe!!!
