This is the original gas station from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Good bbq, and decent sides! Large selection of horror collectibles for sale. From the roadside view to the cabins you can rent out back there are many perfect photo ops to capture the “I was there” and “in the movie” feel of your visit. Definitely worth a stop!

Fun little place. Original has station from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Had the brisket nachos and chili. Brisket nachos were really tasty with thin, crispy chips. Chili had a little kick. Lots of great Halloween items to purchase at very reasonable prices. Better than most big party stores.

Good barbecue plates of either beef brisket or spicy pork sausage come with corn bread. The reason to dine here is to soak in the creepy memories of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which used this once active gas station in Bastrop as a filming location in 1973. Horror movie fans will love the snack bar and gift shop— great array of horrific merch, videos, weapons and display stuff. Also have a few spartan cabins to rent. Fun stop for Terror buffs.

I made a special stop at The Gas Station while driving through central Texas, and if you’re a fan of classic horror movies, this place instantly rings a bell. This is one of the real filming locations from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and pulling into the lot on a gray, foggy, rainy afternoon felt like walking straight onto the set. The weather couldn’t have been more perfectly gloomy — low visibility, wet ground, and that quiet Texas countryside atmosphere that adds a cinematic touch to everything around you.
The exterior looks exactly like you’d expect: simple, rustic, and true to the movie’s original charm. The big old BBQ sign, the handmade boards, the open field behind the building — all of it feels authentic and untouched, almost like time here moves differently. Even if you’re not a movie buff, the location itself has a unique rural vibe that makes it worth the stop.
The grounds were clean, the building was well-kept, and the property overall looks maintained with care. I didn’t get the chance to go inside the restaurant on this visit, but it actually gives me a perfect excuse to come back. I’ve heard great things about the brisket and sausage, and the staff here is known to be extremely knowledgeable about the movie history behind this place.
If you love road trips, film locations, or true Texas roadside culture — this stop is a must.

The brisket was tender with the perfect seasoning, flavorful beans with bacon, and a fun horror theme all the way to the backyard. Staff were super friendly and welcoming from start to finish. Great food and prices with a great vibe! Will definitely go again!

Come stop by and have some peace and great BBQ before they build up around the area. They rent cabins also and it’s a great place to just sit and reflect. Service is top notch and there’s plenty of parking. The price is very affordable. Great place to shop for you horror collectors

If your are a fan of horror and are in the area, this place is an obvious choice to visit, considering that this building was the gas station from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It has a horror store now and BBQ. The staff is friendly. The man I ordered BBQ from pointed out some other horror movie locations nearby I could visit, and we talked Supernatural. The BBQ was good too. It was a fun stop for lunch.

We visited The Gas Station—my second time, and my husband’s first. The first time, my daughter and I just browsed all the horror movie collectibles (which are seriously fun for any fan!) and picked up some cool shirts, patches, and stickers. It was a weekday visit, so the vibe was quieter.
This time, being a Saturday, the place was buzzing with people—especially those lining up for food. And I get it. The menu may be small, but what they serve is absolutely delicious and lightning-fast. I’m usually not big on BBQ, but wow—I really enjoyed it, and I’d definitely have it again.
Chris, who was taking orders both times I visited, is fantastic. Friendly, helpful, and clearly loves what he does—just like the rest of the staff. If you’re into horror films and crave some solid BBQ, The Gas Station is a must-stop destination. Highly recommend!
