Wonderful snug little bakery! It’s right on a parking lot ($3, or try street parking nearby, which is hit or miss), which is rare in Chestnut Hill, but it’s easy to miss because there’s no signage and it looks like a tool shed from the outside. Inside there is lots of seating and it’s very calm and quiet. Decor is…understated, there’s nothing posh here. But the baked goods are great, especially the muffins – try the pistachio! I hear the coffee is great too although I haven’t had it myself.

I absolutely love and adore this place. This is a true Philly gem, hidden right behind the hustle and bustle of the busy cobblestone streets. Don’t be afraid to try everything and anything here, you will not be displeased. I no longer live in the area, but I make the lengthy drive two or three times a year. Only to have brunch and stock up on pastries . If you haven’t been here, you are truly missing out.

Horrible. Dilapidated. Cantankerous.
There’s nothing wrong with a small old quaint bakery but walking into the French Bakery is like walking into a rotting library. The place smells horrible the room is cluttered with somebody’s old furniture leaving little to no room to move about. In addition the people are not nice. On two different occasions I have been greeted with a cold shut the door behind you and some nasty looks. With all of this in mind the food was decent for the most part but some of it was stale and it’s hard to enjoy food served by people that seem to want you to leave! All in all it’s much safer to head to another one of Chestnut Hill’s wonderful bakeries.

They offered to heat my croissants for me, and wrapped them in such a way they were still warm when I got home!
Adorable little bakery. A little challenging to find, but after calling and asking how to find them, they were incredibly helpful.

Fabulous! Our daughter was visiting from Denver for the week. We Had many meals out but this was the best by far. It is a drive from our home in Bloomfield, CT, but worth it.
We will be back for sure.

Great food! Best soups and croissant sandwiches. I recommend the new item. The coffee is really good. Muffins and all the pastries are wonderful!

Yummy food, great coffee, classic café vibe, all set to a soundtrack of Philly classical radio. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the time travel to an imaginary, simpler, and more genteel time ☕️

I’ve been to this place several times. The cleanliness concerns me. It could be quiant but it could also be like eating in a cluttered garage. The food is okay, but a bit expensive.

Food was great, my first and last trip to this place. The owners are my boyfriend’s friends and they’re retiring soon. Sunday is their last day. Awww

I’m not sharing my croissant! Great for a scrumptious pastry and coffee or a satisfying lunch. Quaint and homey.
