Service was prompt and extreme curtious. The staff was all very attentive.
My prime rib (12oz.) was massive and tasted amazing. The loaded baked potato was quite good as well.
Desert was the cherry on top, though not the main attraction. I got the carrot cake and it was reasonably portioned, not oversized.

I had high hopes for The Freighthouse, given its 4.6 ⭐️ reputation and the unique setting, but unfortunately my experience didn’t live up to the expectations.

I ordered the 20oz Porterhouse, cooked medium-rare. While it was prepared to the correct temperature, it had absolutely no flavor. For a steakhouse of this caliber, seasoning and flavor should be the highlight, and this was deeply disappointing. I paired it with a baked potato, which honestly ended up being the best part of the meal — simple, but actually enjoyable.

On the positive side, our server Kristen (or Kirsten) was excellent. She was friendly, attentive, and clearly did her best to make the evening pleasant. Service was not the issue here.

The atmosphere seemed like it had potential with the historic building, but the dining room was noticeably smokey/hazy, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal.

Overall, this visit fell short. For the price point and the reputation, I expected much better. Good service can’t make up for bland food and a less than comfortable dining environment.

First off be more organized, Valentine’s Day and it was busy they don’t take reservations so we waited an hour and half to get seated which we accepted, you would think they have buzzers? No they have 2-3 people running around non stop calling out names.

I basically paid $150 for kids Mac n cheese and a salad bar as that was the only thing done right here.

Steaks I like medium rare, I will eat rare if needed but prefer medium rare. The steak came out definitely raw, cold. Offering to put back on the grill after over 2 plus hours I was like no thanks, I already knew this will be my last time here.

I’m not picky I just won’t be back. Beware coming here, also my wife’s steak was rare borderline raw also but here steak was half as thick as mine, and that’s probably why mine was raw, the cooks don’t know how to judge temperatures based on other comments.

They never respond to reviews, it shows how much they care.

More than a 4-star experience but not quite up to 5. I’ve been here a couple of times now when in town for an annual conference. Each time, I’ve been with a large group during what must be some of their busiest nights of the year.

Service is above-average when I’ve visited. If you go and they aren’t packed with large parties you’ll probably get exceptional service.

Food has been consistently delicious. That said, there’s nothing “out there” on the menu so it’s probably not valuable to provide a lot of descriptive details. I’ve had a number of their appetizers and a couple of their entrees. All were skillfully prepared, cooked to proper temperature and generally well executed.

My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and had an amazing meal! The staff were friendly and polite and the food was very delicious, I highly recommend the shrimp baked in white wine and butter and their giant prime rib 🙂

I had the 20 oz ribeye and sauteed mushrooms. Both were fantastic and maybe finished a third of the meal. I look forward to coming back. Zack was an excellent bartender.

Drinks at the bar were good. Was brought up stairs to the first couple of tables by the salad bar. Waitress was amazing nice friendly she was very good. Appetizer came out artichoke dip and little toasted breads. The artichoke was good, but the breads were stale. I ordered a porterhouse steak with a lobster and a vegetable. I didn’t even know that I was a lobster tale. It was so rubbery, wouldn’t even really cut it, didn’t even look like a lobster tail. The steak wasn’t even cooked right. My girlfriend got a sirloin steak with a baked potato. Potato came out burnt so they had to bring another one. She ordered a well done steak and the steak came out half well well done and half rare. This is a second time I’ve given you guys a try. Both times I’ve been disappointed. The waitress did help get the bill reduced, but I don’t think I should have paid anything for all the bad food. The waitress was awesome

Went for a family reunion dinner gathering as an early Father’s Day celebration because one family member suggested it. Probably considered one of the higher-end restaurants in La Crosse area. Ambience and decor was dark, not warm or inviting. Plenty of parking and not a very long wait to get it, although we did have a reservation. Food presentation was decent but the quality left much to be desired. I ordered the Sirloin steak and Scallops combo—the scallops were fine, but the steak was dry and extremely tough because it was overcooked (I had requested medium well) and probably sitting for a bit. Another family had their filet undercooked. The worse part was the asparagus—they were nice and tender, perfectly cooked but had grains of sand so clearly were not washed or rinsed thoroughly. This wasn’t just one spear that had sand grains but every spear on my plate and especially at the heads of the spears. Another family member had the same issue with their asparagus so whoever cooked the batch must have been in a hurry. This is an absolute disappointment for a higher-end restaurant for something so basic.

The only reason this wasn’t rated one star was because of the good service of the waitress. Our server was very friendly and even though there were 9 of us which we assumed would automatically result in the 20% tip being added to the check, that did not happen. We of course made sure to tip her well. Frankly all their staff were very friendly. Unfortunately the food quality will deter me from returning the next time I am in town.

Cute place with a great atmosphere. Very cozy and intimate feeling. Stopped in for dinner on a Monday night at around 7:15pm – got seated quickly in a comfy two person booth on the corner.

Wine was great and priced affordably. Service was prompt and courteous, although slightly awkward – we were asked about dessert just as our entrees arrived and then asked again after we had 2 bites down.

Both of us had steaks; the peppercorn strip was overcooked, tough and underseasoned. Filet was cooked perfectly but woefully underseasoned. The side of asparagus was cooked very poorly – wilty tops and woody stems. Not worth the up charge.

I’m sure the place has its moments but it feels like charm is the leading quality here. The food wasn’t too remarkable. Especially when the total before tip was $130 for two steaks and a few glasses of wine.

We haven’t been to the freight house for a long time, but I’m so pleased to report that we had a truly excellent experience tonight!! We were some of the first people in the bar, so my friend grabbed a table right next to the fireplace which was blazing and so warm!! We had been freezing outside and we’re so happy to enjoy our drinks. After being in Chicago last week, the prices were extremely reasonable… And it wasn’t long before our table was ready in the dining room!

I always order the prime rib because it has always been excellent. By the time I made my way through a quarter of my salad, I was so full that I couldn’t even make a dent in the most beautiful piece of prime rib that I’ve ever seen! I think I managed to eat two bites… And the rest will not be wasted this week! We have enough beef down in the kitchen to feed the whole family and all of their friends!

Our server, Bonnie, made the whole experience even better! She was clearly working SO HARD but still managed to honor our requests while keeping a good natured banter going! In spite of the cold temperatures and the rowdy crowd who quickly filled the dining room, she kept up her sense of humor AND her efficiency!

The four of us really had a delightful time!
