Very good food, excellent atmosphere with really good drinks. Our server, Tuesday, was terrific. Overall it was a very good night. The only downside is that it’s a small dining room and the servers had very little room to get between the tables. We kept getting brushed as the tried to get by. Not badly, and we tried to keep our chairs in but still…
The desert was one of the best we have ever had.

The restaurant is beautiful and very very well designed. However, there are perhaps 2 tables too many as we found our romantic meal abutting another larger table always within earshot and rather cramped.

One thing that got under my skin was the waiters hard sell of their $8 bottles of water. We were asked “is still ok?” Assuming this was tap, we were brought a bottle of water. Granted we could have declined it quickly when it arrived but we weren’t fast enough before the bottle was opened. This left us immediately feeling duped rather than welcomed.

My cocktail was terrific and I loved the variety of liquor they packed into a small bar. At $20 it was on par with what I’d expect

For our meal we ordered a cheese board which was minimalist in offerings, the filet and a fish dish both were just ok and neither would I recommend ordering for a variety of reasons. I don’t remember our desert specifically but we both found it way too sweet and couldn’t eat half of it. Our biggest takeaways about the meal were their overall flavor (nothing I’d send back necessarily or poorly cooked just lacking a depth of flavor) and lack of sides for the rather inflated pricing.

Overall we went in with a fine dining expectation to revel what we are use to from comparable restaurants in Newport and the Groundswell brand but left saying we might come back for a drink but would choose to dine elsewhere for the taste and value. Just ok.

We are excited the Franklin has joined the food scene in Bristol and hope that with some growth can deliver a better experience in the future.

We tried Franklin on our recent trip to Newport. The place is cozy and the décor is just beautiful. It gives an old English aesthetic but with a new fresh vibe. Our cocktail was pretty and delicious. The tuna crudo was fresh and complimented well by the seasoning. Onion soup was good. Our entree the ravioli was a bit blend and the truffles lacked the truffle flavor. Desserts were again beautiful and tasty. The cheesecake is not traditional in looks but is light and flavorful. Overall it’s a 4.5 and would have been a 5 if our main entree was better. Good restaurant and will recommend.

I’ve been lucky enough to eat at some of the best restaurants in the world. It’s wonderful to dine in a place like Bristol and experience food, service, and ambiance on par with what you’d find in cities like Paris, New York, and London. Wow. From the filet to the pasta we were in love.

Our server Nick was knowledgeable about wines and all the dishes served. He and the rest of the team were incredibly attentive. The quality of the menu and execution of each dish surpassed our already high expectations! We will be back again soon!

So I tend to give pretty good places 5 stars just based on expectations being met. However “The Franklin” is far beyond my expectations. The place transports you from Bristol to a true brassiere as soon as you walk in the door. Be ready for service that you will never forget, a menu that is thoughtful exquisite and prepared by chefs that knock it out of the park. Our meals were amazing, We started with the fried mushroom croquettes, perfectly prepared. I had duck confit at the suggestion of our server, I normally do not order duck, it was a great choice. My wife had filet mignon WHICH WE BOTH AGREE WAS ONE OF THE BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD. Before o forget the cocktails we on point. Now we rarely partake in desert, knowing how they prepare sweets etc. at groundswell we indulged in the chocolate pot de creme, I wish I could say what I was thinking in this review a few expletives would be uttered at how well it was prepared and the flavors that followed. The service team at groundswell is professional fun and great communicators. A special thank you to Daniel for going above and beyond. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you to the proprietors for sharing your dream with us all.

A mixed experience! What can I say? The service and the restaurant decor is 5 star plus.

Everyone here is marvelously friendly and professional. Taylor was great.

The interior is stunningly beautiful. Just very inviting and, I would say like being in the south of France. Our table was especially lovely with a lamp and flowers.

Now, unfortunately, I was fairly underwhelmed by what I ordered. Having dined all over, I started with the French onion soup. It was just okay. Trafford had one that burst with flavor.

My “French Connection” was tasty. However, zero buzz. Avenue N, Blackstone Oyster, Olympia Tea Room know how to do a cocktail that is delicious and has a kick.

The roasted half chicken had promise. It was bathed in a flavorful au jus. Unfortunately it was more bone than actual chicken. I did enjoy the cognac mushrooms but even the sides were skimpy. I did order the pommes purée, filling but fairly bland. Waterman Grille does this type of dish much better.

Lastly, I was told the Affogato was delicious. It was terribly bitter. Pane e Vino makes a delicious one.

So, the experience is quite lovely due to the decor & service. However, the food and drink were a disappointment. I hate saying it, I really do. Would I go back? Probably not unless I heard there was a revamp of recipes. I’m sorry.

I’ve been a fan of Groundswell for a long time, so when I heard The Franklin was opening, I was beyond excited. We got a reservation for Thursday during opening week, and it lined up perfectly with our vacation.

From the moment we walked in, everything felt intentional and welcoming. We were seated at the coziest little sofa setup with two round tables. It was so charming I could’ve cried.

The drinks were incredible. I had the French 75 and the Franklin Manhattan, and my husband had the Boulevardier. We started with the deviled eggs topped with caviar and the house salad. For dinner, I had the ratatouille, he had the duck confit, and we shared the mac and cheese. Every dish was thoughtful and delicious.

For dessert, I ordered the Chocolate Pot de Crème and the Lemon Ginger Cheesecake. My husband said he didn’t want dessert, but he ended up loving the cheesecake so much he couldn’t stop talking about it.

The sweetest surprise came with the check. They brought us a postcard we could fill out, and they would mail it for us. Such a thoughtful and personal touch.

As someone who is also in a client-facing business, I really appreciate the care and attention that went into every detail of the experience. This dinner truly filled my cup. I’ll absolutely be back and can’t wait to bring friends and family along.

Absolutely obsessed with this place!! First of all the ambience is everything – so warm, romantic and the design is stunning. The food was delicious. I had the filet and loved it & my fiance tried the special, which was a unique ravioli dish with short rib. The haricot verts on the side was perfect – best ones I’ve ever had. I don’t usually like them and I loved these. Service was wonderful – waiter was super friendly and had great suggestions and explanations. Overall a 10/10!!
