As we were waiting, I could hear them telling people that they were out of pulled pork. They were out of potato salad and something else I don’t remember. This was around 4 PM on a Saturday. I guess that shows a lot of people are eating there or getting takeout. I’ve heard of good barbecue joints in Texas running out of food, but that’s because lines form at like 5 AM before the place even opens.
I guess they have to gauge over the next couple weeks the number of customers they can expect on certain days and times. We drove about a half hour to get here and really wanted the pork but opted for something else. The ribs were really good definitely have a unique flavored sauce on them and you can also get them dry.
Got the buffalo wings, hush puppies and the bang bang shrimp for appetizers. Man, all of them were very good. The shrimp are big sized and had great flavor and we’re cooked perfectly. The buffalo wings were probably some of the best I’ve had in my life, and I consider myself a wing aficionado. They were so tender you could tell they were fresh wings not frozen. Nice light smoky flavor but crispy on the outside the way they should be. Homemade blue cheese was no joke either.
For the main meal, I got the catfish which was supposed to be with a side of pork but since they were out, I just paid extra and got a half rack of ribs. Already commented on the ribs so I can say the catfish was awesome too. Very flavorful and tender. The breading was nice and crispy not that Really flat fine type you get it other establishments almost like a fried chicken breading. My wife got the brisket and it was so freaking good nice and tender and juicy. Baked beans for some of the best I’ve ever had to and I eat at a lot of barbecue places.
Again, hopefully they can get enough staff hired where all tables are filled at all times and they don’t run out of food early in the day. But we’ll definitely be back.
**Our waitress was as attentive and nice as some of the waitresses staff we’ve had at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse where you pay anywhere from $300-$400 for a dinner for two with wine and drinks.
Half Price Ribs on Tuesdays
Emily, my server was nice. And while they were a little tough, the ribs had a nice flavor. The baked beans were good and adding some Memphis BBQ to the mix, they tasted even better. Mac and cheese is good; I even added some BBQ sauce to that. Lol
If you want to try their different sauces, I recommend getting tots to try them on.
Glad they’ll be opening up on in SW VA soon, my area.
I like this place, and Mikey (photo) approves
The best part: it wasn’t too heavy or overfilling! I had a brisket sandwich and two sides (which was a plentiful offering, I assure you), and by the end of the meal I felt full but not like I had over served myself. It was a good feeling, because I hate feeling gross after bbq.
But this place has the right stuff and quality ingredients that really tasted fantastic 🙂
Ordered a brisket burger, which is described as “brisket infused with our homemade ingredients.” I thought like every other brisket burger, that id get a burger with some brisket on it. I ordered it “without pink,” which was based on the idea it had a traditional ground beef patty. Had I known the patty itself, for $18, was made of brisket then I would have ordered differently.
I’m not against an $18 burger and side, however, when you compare this to an $11 mega chicken sandwich without side from Hangry Joes, which has really great flavor and is much bigger, the choice becomes clear. Competition matters in ratings. That, and the fact the bartender had no idea if they had a red ale, are why I can only give the place a 3/5.
The hostess at the front door was lovely, and held the door for me, as I have a disability. She and the above average Mac and cheese are about the only reasons id choose to go back, considering capital ale house is right next door and theyre in the same price bracket.
Overall great environment and customer service but the food just wasn’t good at all for that price.
This was my first and last time going here. The only dishes I would suggest is the baked beans and wings.
