Fantastic! The food was so good. Brisket Philly is now my favorite sandwich! Pork rinds, pulled pork, mac n cheese, redskin potato salad… we tried them all and so very good. The service is one of those places that sets the bar for friendly solid service. We were contacted by no let than 5 people making sure we were good. Local owned doing it right! We will be back soon too try the rest of the menu!

It here recently and was very impressed. Read an article in the Richmond’s Times Dispatch about the place. That’s how we ended up here. Otherwise, I would’ve never heard of it. Everything from the service to the food was excellent. There was a 30 minute wait when we walked in and there were a lot of open booths the whole time. I’m assuming they were short on help since it’s a new location.

As we were waiting, I could hear them telling people that they were out of pulled pork. They were out of potato salad and something else I don’t remember. This was around 4 PM on a Saturday. I guess that shows a lot of people are eating there or getting takeout. I’ve heard of good barbecue joints in Texas running out of food, but that’s because lines form at like 5 AM before the place even opens.

I guess they have to gauge over the next couple weeks the number of customers they can expect on certain days and times. We drove about a half hour to get here and really wanted the pork but opted for something else. The ribs were really good definitely have a unique flavored sauce on them and you can also get them dry.

Got the buffalo wings, hush puppies and the bang bang shrimp for appetizers. Man, all of them were very good. The shrimp are big sized and had great flavor and we’re cooked perfectly. The buffalo wings were probably some of the best I’ve had in my life, and I consider myself a wing aficionado. They were so tender you could tell they were fresh wings not frozen. Nice light smoky flavor but crispy on the outside the way they should be. Homemade blue cheese was no joke either.

For the main meal, I got the catfish which was supposed to be with a side of pork but since they were out, I just paid extra and got a half rack of ribs. Already commented on the ribs so I can say the catfish was awesome too. Very flavorful and tender. The breading was nice and crispy not that Really flat fine type you get it other establishments almost like a fried chicken breading. My wife got the brisket and it was so freaking good nice and tender and juicy. Baked beans for some of the best I’ve ever had to and I eat at a lot of barbecue places.

Again, hopefully they can get enough staff hired where all tables are filled at all times and they don’t run out of food early in the day. But we’ll definitely be back.

**Our waitress was as attentive and nice as some of the waitresses staff we’ve had at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse where you pay anywhere from $300-$400 for a dinner for two with wine and drinks.

I know this is a newer location of a well known VA brand with a couple other locations. Located in the Shoppes at Innsbrook it has a prime spot along Broad St. They did a great job freshening up the interior from what was Hurley’s Tavern. We had about a 20 min wait at 5 on a Thursday but where able to grab a couple of drinks from the bar. They have a fun menu of mixed drinks. Once we seated the service was great and the food came out really fast. I thought the wings were fantastic and the catfish basket was on special and was really lightly battered and delicious. The pulled chicken was good. Hushpuppies were a great app with yummy cinnamon butter. The kids enjoyed the mac and cheese and I thought it was pretty good as well. I heard some complaints when they first opened, but I thought things were running well and would definitely go back.

We started with the Puppy Basket. The Puppies were a little smaller than expected but had the usual flavor. We also tried the catfish basket and the beef beef brisket sandwich with 2 sides. The catfish was fried well but kept biting into unknown flour bits. It was accompanied with Mac n Cheese. The beef brisket was tender, and the choices of sauce were very good. The side of cornbread was a generous slice. Service was friendly with large drink glasses.

Good music playing. A bar to watch the game if you want. Plenty of napkins, as you’ll need ’em.

Half Price Ribs on Tuesdays

Emily, my server was nice. And while they were a little tough, the ribs had a nice flavor. The baked beans were good and adding some Memphis BBQ to the mix, they tasted even better. Mac and cheese is good; I even added some BBQ sauce to that. Lol

If you want to try their different sauces, I recommend getting tots to try them on.

Glad they’ll be opening up on in SW VA soon, my area.

I like this place, and Mikey (photo) approves

Bbq was the best I’ve had in a while!!! Really rich meaty flavor, you can really taste the effort and time they put into each food item to make it taste good.

The best part: it wasn’t too heavy or overfilling! I had a brisket sandwich and two sides (which was a plentiful offering, I assure you), and by the end of the meal I felt full but not like I had over served myself. It was a good feeling, because I hate feeling gross after bbq.

But this place has the right stuff and quality ingredients that really tasted fantastic 🙂

We went there during their soft opening and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was on point and the service was great. The real surprise however was the food. We got two appetizers and two entrees and I have to say the food exceeded our expectations. My only real complaint is something that they can’t do anything about. It’s how loud it gets in there. it’s a very narrow restaurant so the sound bounces off the walls and making it very difficult to hear during Peak times. I appreciate the fact that they did put up some sound dampening material on the walls, but it’s still tough to hear. During good weather the back end of the restaurant will roll up their doors and allow fresh air to come in and provide outdoor seating with a decent View. Overall highly recommend that you give it a shot I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I mean… Meh.
Ordered a brisket burger, which is described as “brisket infused with our homemade ingredients.” I thought like every other brisket burger, that id get a burger with some brisket on it. I ordered it “without pink,” which was based on the idea it had a traditional ground beef patty. Had I known the patty itself, for $18, was made of brisket then I would have ordered differently.
I’m not against an $18 burger and side, however, when you compare this to an $11 mega chicken sandwich without side from Hangry Joes, which has really great flavor and is much bigger, the choice becomes clear. Competition matters in ratings. That, and the fact the bartender had no idea if they had a red ale, are why I can only give the place a 3/5.
The hostess at the front door was lovely, and held the door for me, as I have a disability. She and the above average Mac and cheese are about the only reasons id choose to go back, considering capital ale house is right next door and theyre in the same price bracket.

I saw they had a $35 sampler on their menu and I decided to try it. The platter came with ribs, sausage, pork, brisket, wings, hush puppies and baked beans. It is a good amount of food but the quality wasn’t the best. The ribs were unseasoned and had too much fat. The sausage was burnt and dry. The pork had no flavor and was definitely over cooked. The wings were good and had a hint of buffalo flavor. The brisket was gray, overcooked and dry. The hush puppies were like eating old grease. The baked beans were very good but the texture was like a paste.
Overall great environment and customer service but the food just wasn’t good at all for that price.
This was my first and last time going here. The only dishes I would suggest is the baked beans and wings.
