This is a must go to place anytime you’re around Smithfield! You give your food and drink order at the bar when you first come in. The atmosphere is that of a bar right out of an English novel. There were a nice selection of English Beers. I ordered Scotch Egg to start and Lamb Biryani as my main course. I wanted to get a wider range of their menu. So I also ordered a Steak and Ale Pie from their Pub Classic section of the menu. For Dessert I go Bread Pudding.
It didn’t take long after we sat down that our food arrived. The Scotch Egg has the uniquely fried crust. As I cut into the it the thicken yellow yoke oozed out. It was fried just right and had superior taste. The lamb had the tenderness of a stick of butter. It was cooked perfectly to my request, medium-well. It came with spice rice incorporated with braised lamb pieces, carrots, onions and golden raisins. The seasoning was delicious and presentation was nothing less than 5-Stars. The Steak and Ale Pie came with mash potatoes and a side of gravy and smash peas. The juicy steak was surrounded by a properly cooked pie crust. The flavors were delicious and the meat filled every part of the inner crust. I enjoyed every bite. The mashed potatoes were whipped to a smooth consistency. And popped once I added what I believe was homemade gravy. The Bread Pudding was warm and came with a caramel sauce. It was one of the best I ever had and each bite was like a dream. I got to meet the owner David and he is a very delightful fello. The entire staff was very friendly and quick to help and answer any questions.

This place is a definite must when visiting the area. Dined in for dinner last night. We had for an appetizer the Scotch egg, and for our main entree my husband had the fish and chips and I had the Wellington beef Scottish style, and for dessert we had the bread pudding. Everything was excellent cooked perfectly. I will definitely be coming back here. You order at the counter, You seat yourself We sat in the back room by the fireplace. Super awesome atmosphere.

This was our first time here. I got the chicken, leek, and mushroom pie. It was absolutely wonderful. The crust was tender and flaky and the pie was so tasty. The potatoes and mashed peas were a wonderful addition. My husband got the Shepard pie and he loved it. He said the vegetables and the lamb was excellent and loved the potatoes on top. We will be returning. The atmosphere was totally a British pub style.

Wow, this place is fantastic! So glad I stumbled upon it. Staff was super friendly, atmosphere was on point and the food was absolutely delicious. I started with the Fish Bites. They were cooked perfectly with a super crunchy batter. For my main course, I went with the Steak and Ale Pie, which was served with mashed potatoes, brown gravy and mushy peas. Of course, I had to wash it all down with a couple of proper pints. The portions were huge and I could barely finish half of what I ordered. After I went to settle the tab, I tried to leave a tip and was told they wouldn’t accept it, as they follow the European model for dining. Wow. I will most definitely be back here next time I am in town and if you’re in the area, I highly recommend you pay them a visit!

Great food, great drinks, and an even better vibe. The Fiddlin’ Pig has a cozy, lively atmosphere, delicious pub fare (highly recommend the pretzel and the fish and chips is to DIE for!! ) … and always a delicious drink selection. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience feel welcoming and easy. Definitely a place I’ll be back to!

After reading reviews, I was very excited to try this restaurant and Invited one of my best friends and my husband To join me for lunch.

My husband had the fish and chips with a side of beer cheese for dipping. It was good! My friend had a burger with beer cheese and fries. She also said it was good.

I ordered the steak, Cooked medium and it came with some of the best Brussel sprouts I’ve ever eaten and a potato concoction, Which was also very good. Unfortunately, When I cut into my steak the ends were well done And The center was medium well. I don’t normally send back my food because I’m afraid of what might happen to it in the kitchen, but this plate looked so delicious and I have been so excited to try the restaurant after reading reviews, that I decided I did not want to just settle and I wanted to experience it at its best … I asked my husband to kindly take it up to the bar area and let them know it was a tad overcooked.

He returned to the table Empty-handed and said they were super nice and I would have my food shortly.

Unfortunately, less than a minute later, A woman came out with my plate And told me that the kitchen had said that to them, IT IS cooked medium And that the lighting must be throwing me off. She said That where I had cut the steak in the center was a little pink. (We were by a window and it was sunlight). I am definitely not one to be confrontational, So I took my plate and said “ thank you”. It was definitely well done on the ends and medium well in the center, But I had already said that, and then was told I was wrong, so there was no point in . She asked if I was sure And I told her it was fine And that I would just keep my plate. I was super kind, butIt was an awkward moment, and I settled for less than best. If it had been cooked correctly and they had not argued with me about the temperature, It would’ve been an amazing experience. My sides were delicious and my steak had good flavor, but It was just a little overcooked for my liking.

It’s definitely worth a try – Really neat atmosphere and good food.

Love this place! Our 3rd visit in the 7 months we’ve lived here.

We arrived mid afternoon to find it well filled with rugby fans, watching the various big screen TVs.

You order at the bar and seat yourself. Menus are at the bar on the counter, along with a list of specials. Beer specials are on the blackboard.

The food is insanely falvorful and authentic British. We had the chicken/leek pie and the beef and root vegetable stew with an appetizer of a flatbread with lamb.

The service is cheerful, welcoming, and quick!

We always feel transported to England for the time we spend here, a mini vacation from normal life.

And they pay their staff a living wage so no tipping is required. Bravo!! And continued success in 2026. We’ll be back!

Found them while we were in town doing a few trails. It was the perfect spot after walking around all day. Got the burger which was cooked to perfection & the other half had the fish & chips w/a side of mashed potatoes. It was all really great. We will definitely come back to try so ething else from the menu.

When you enter, you order at the bar and then take a seat. They will bring the foid out to you. I appreciate the fact that they pay their staff a living wage, so they ask you not to tip. Kudos to them .

We are new to town and we absolutely LOVE this place. It was my husband, my 8year old daughter and myself and we loved everything about this restaurant/pub! We even got to play games while we waited to eat. Delicious food and cocktails and the atmosphere is so awesome, so authentic (British style). The staff is awesome and the owner is super friendly and really loves what he does you can tell and engages with customers etc. You can’t go wrong going to the fiddling pig! Our favorite!!

I’ve lived in Hampton Roads for 25 years, but I was born and raised in England. Lots of friends have been asking my opinion of the Fiddlin’ Pig English pub. Honestly, I’ve been in no rush to try it out, I’m rather tired of what are often very inauthentic attempts at reproducing pubs in the US. I did finally visit a couple of weeks ago and was very pleasantly surprised. My heart did sink a little as I approached the pub and saw the prominently displayed red phone booth (which we don’t have in England any more), but the inside looked very much like an English pub. The standing only bar area, the small “snug”, multiple separate rooms and a nice patio area. All felt cozy and authentic; well done! They had two choices of hand pulled cask ale – the “bitter” was very much like an English cask bitter and was rather splendid. Of course, I also had to try the fish and chips with minty mushy peas. That was also very good, though where I’m from mushy peas are served as a huge dollop rather than as a tiny side. My friend really enjoyed his pie and mash. The “we pay a decent wage, NO TIPPING” sign put the icing on the cake of authenticity! So all-in-all a super attempt at reproducing the taste and atmosphere of an English pub in Virginia.
